Most of these albums are being considerd all time greats for a reason. That being said my absolute favorite on this list is the debut by Enslaved. A perfect album from start to finish.
But it is a BM debut list...so please, please put Darkthrone's BM debut back in S tier, mate. Love the channel. Edit: Yes, you got it sorted! Well done!
I'm not going to claim Ulver has the number one debut album out of these, BUT, I Troldskog Faren Vild is so special to me. I know nothing like it (then again I don't know that much in general). So, so good.
Kristian Wåhlin did the artwork for both The Somberlain and In the Nightside Eclipse which is why they look similar, he did Secrets of the Black Arts as well. He's one of my favorite artists. As for my ranking, I'd put In the Nightside Eclipse and Bergtatt in S tier, The Somberlain in B, The Principles of Evil Made Flesh in C. I need to check out the rest of the albums on the list.
@@spritefroggy Easy. I grew up in the 90s. I tried Mayhem, Burzum and others, but didn't like them back then. I started with the last Enslaved album and went back from that. To my surprise I liked the first few Black Metal albums a lot. So Windir was the next logical step. After that I went more into atmospheric black, like Saor, Winterfylleth, Panopticon. I also like some newer Black metal stuff like Havukruunu or Audn. I retried Mayhem, but still cannot stand it. But I will get those mentioned another shot.
My S tier picks (from best to least good): Mayhem, Ulver, Windir, Enslaved, Darkthrone (not a debut, but I guess it's their black metal debut), Emperor.
Here would be my tier-ranking of these black metal debut albums. My opinions on some of these albums have changed ever since I commented on Metal Trenches ranking video many months ago: S - The Somberlain, In the Nightside Eclipse, Dark Medieval Times, Far Away from the Sun, Vikingligr Veldi, Soknardarl A - Pentagram, The Secrets of the Black Arts, For All Tid, A Blaze in the Northern Sky, Bergtatt, Black Shining Leather, The Principle of Evil Made Flesh, Bathory, Borknagar, Worship Him, Thy Mighty Contract B - De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas, Burzum, Diabolical Fullmoon Mysticism, Dark Endless
Immortal ’s debut = S tier. That atmosphere is just... 👌 Darkthrone to S tier too imo. And I know, I am in minority, but I don't like Mayhem's debut. It's just fuckin overhyped for me, sorry.
Euronymous ghost might appear in your room tonight Questy for putting Mayhem in in B tier. It's okay, just put out a glass of chocolate milk. That should keep him away.
Enslaved, Emperor, and Mayhem are all S tier - in that order for me. For A tier, I'd put Cradle of Filth and Samael there. As much as I love Bathory, and their debut is so important, it doesn't really rank with all the later music it inspired. I think that A Blaze In The Northern Sky is Darkthrone's best effort, and I have it at D. A very low D. Burzum isn't even black metal. Or any kind of metal, really. I don't understand how they have any following at all.
Check out trenches tier list in the description 🍺

A Blaze in the Northen Sky, is the first Black Metal album, so is not wrong.

Ulver first album is s tier
Pretty innovative on the folk interlude mixed with atmospheric guitar riffs. Like they did it perfectly

He also did the artwork for Far Away From The Sun
I only know 3 of them, as I have started with Black Metal only recently. So:
S:Enslaved
A: Ulver, Windir
How have you just gotten into black metal but not heard Burzum, Mayhem and Darkthrone?
Rectify this.

Thanks for the shout. I might have had to get physical XD.
Not until after the first date 🍷
Great list! Personally I would´ve put Ulver Bergtatt as S tier, possibly my favourite album of all time
Nice listing, what animals do you have in those terrariums behind you?
Ulver is S for me. Beautiful album.
Sophomore should have a lot of S class listings
Yeah so many of my favourites are the sophmore ones
i honestly mostly agree with your rating
Ok it’s just my opinion but……
S: Emperor, Satyricon, Rotting Christ, Dissection, Ulver, Enslaved
A: Darkthrone, Bathory, Gorgoroth, Sacramentum, Borknagar, Burzum
B: Cradle of Filth, Immortal, Samael, Windir
C: Dark Funeral, Carpathian Forest
D: Mayhem, Marduk
F: Dimmu Borgir
Have you listened to Vintersorg till fjalls album? you would love it, is a folki album.
heck yeah! all their albums are amazing :)
Immortal ’s debut = S tier. That atmosphere is just... 👌 Darkthrone to S tier too imo. And I know, I am in minority, but I don't like Mayhem's debut. It's just fuckin overhyped for me, sorry.
I think sacramentum would be S tier for me
For me immortals debut should have been at least a tier.
And what about into the infernal regions of the ancient cult? I missed that somehow
First Dark Funeral is their best I think. Should go to A. And First Emperor is definetly an S:)
Euronymous ghost might appear in your room tonight Questy for putting Mayhem in in B tier. It's okay, just put out a glass of chocolate milk. That should keep him away.
I actually have choccy milk too
Oh damn this ranking vexed me! Hahaha
Maybe blaze in the northern sky is on there as it's there debut black metal album?
If that’s the case then ye S tier
Darkthrone is on the list but not Soulside Journey, oof
There is a subtle but omnipresent jewish link within all Those bands
Sacramentum deserved more.
Have you been grounded to your room dude? Been crankin out content..
Gonna be away for two weeks soon so don’t get too used to it 😉

Except early Burzum is in fact black metal after all. Varg says otherwise, but Varg says alot of weird shit
@@Tjp7624 I guess I haven't heard the early stuff then.
