DON'T CALL IT A COMEBACK! '67 FIREBIRD TRACK BLAST.

  • We are rapidly approaching the big 300 and in Episode 291 of Mike Finnegan's Garage we head back to Alabama International Dragway in Steele, Alabama, to track test the Rubber Duck. My 1967 Pontiac Firebird 400 is a legit barn find, a car that my friends and I drug out of a Georgia wood barn after lying dormant for 16 years. Since that day we have been tweaking and refining this Pro Street car in search of turning it into an 8 second street/strip car.

I think the Rubber Duck would be a perfect candidate to do some "back to basics" type episodes. The engine apparently still leaks and you have no clue what the cam specs are, and also not sure if indicated TDC is true. One episode could be just about details of putting an engine together that us "old timers" take for granted, but newbies to the hobby may not know. Then another episode on degreeing a cam. Difficult to get full cam card specs that way, but you'll know a whole lot more than you did. Verifying TDC is part of degreeing the cam, so there! Great episode!

You'd be a good candidate for back to basics. One change at a time. You have the information.ask freiburger for help, don't think. You know bettet.❤❤❤❤are ❤there power val❤vessel or blocked? You got the world by the balls, but keep your hands in your pockets

I was thinking 'sort of' along the same avenue. I'm surprised our buddy Mike didn't tear the motor down and investigate so he's KNOW what's in der. [edit] @10:49,, "Hopefully this is accurate." Case in point. This isn't the Mike Finnigan we're come to enjoy,, he usually KNOWS if it's accurate or not.

Mike needs to go back to the basic because he's soo over his head that's why Mike has someone always holding his hand like a little school boy, take his 1955 chevy for example, nothing but problems after problems just like this episode more if the same old bullshit with Mike, sad indeed !!!!

Ya know, I just love that you treat this car with the respect and appreciation the last owner did. You have brought the family much joy as well as yourself, and this car is now doing what it was built to do go rounds and drag race. You know the owner is looking down from up there going heck yeah, that's my baby doing the things. This car landed in the proper hands it deserved to be with someone with your passion and love for racing and horsie power.. From one gear head to another thank you, Finnaginaginaginagan, for doing right by the owner, his family, and the car.

No doubt you'll get the Duck dialed in, and with a 9.04 previous et a 8 should be obtainable. The biggest change I saw was setting the timing. For highlighting the marks on the harmonic balancer - slide some white chalk over the marks and then wipe it off. Alternatively, smear a white paint pen over it and quickly wipe the fresh paint off the high spots. It'll pool in the markings.

Before the chassis dyno, pull the pan front cover and heads. Using what you have at the shop, measure the bore and stroke, the cam specs, lap the valves, treat it to new bearings, pick the kids up from school, put it all back together in time for dinner.Waiting till you blow it up, a replacement is about 10% the cost of your new tow rig.

I thought I would be able to get them because I had a great job but I was disabled 20 years ago because of a flu shot I'm 55 now and unless God blesses me I'm not going to ever be able to afford my dream vehicles. I'm praying your safe and you get your 8 seconds. But if I am blessed with them they are going to be daily driver's no way I'm going to race them I might goose them. But no way I will race them I'm going to enjoy them every day.

. My favorite car a yellow 1967 firebird. Although i like mine with slot mag wheels, 15X12 and P295/50 on rear with coil overs and track link bars and watt's link. And truck arm bars fastened to the Xbars under the front seats. No leaf springs here. And no nose dive. Buick 350 engine with Aluminum heads from TA performance and improved and worked by David Vizard methods. A Pro Systems SV1 carburetor 850 cfm. A GM aluminum A833 manual 4 speed with overdrive with a modified hardened and reinforced case. 3.90 rear gears in a FOX 8.8 aluminum hardened and reinforced rear end. A single piece fiberglass tilt front end reinforced with carbon and kevlar with S glass materials and some aluminum and chromoly sheet monocoque lay up structuring as well. This car is much lighter just by these lightweight combination and is meant for daily driving and pizza delivery being fully sent. Epoxy used in construction is loaded with blend of 10% silica. Front suspension is coil over with custom A arms and rack and pinion manual steering. With a mile of engine set back. Wheels are aluminum slot mags. Fuel cell is a mega gallon fuel cell that is custom built and integrated into car. Car seats 5 people if you are my size 5'6.75". Well the front engine cradle is a shear away in a really tragic heavy accident the front end can shear away and dissipate energy. Indestructible foot box and passenger area with full crumple zones surround. This 'car' is safe, fun, mpg efficient, and road worthy. 🙂

Well Rubber Ducky also has the honor of being the only car video my mom watched all the way through and had fun watching - that was an epic car nut Christmas episode. 😊 Mom ever since has wanted me to get or build a car like Rubber Ducky just for Christmas tree shopping. So yes, keeping toying away with this one - don't ever "finish" Rubber Ducky fully. 😁

In California a guy could have an extra 2,000 of every size Holley jet in plain site, and rudely tell you " No, I dont have any"..

My older brother had a 68 firebird that was also yellow and as a kid in the early 90’s that car was both fun and scary as sh*t (I was probably 12 years old). It had a Pontiac 400 in it and it could run in the 12’s which at the time it was considered a pretty damn fast car. This was well before the cheap LS plus turbo=fast and e85 we have now. I was so sad when he sold it to pay for his wedding and unfortunately at the time I was probably 16 and he had a lot of money in the car so I had no shot on buying it (plus my mom would have said hell no even if I had the cash). That was the car that got me into old cars and Finnegan, every episode you post brings back some good memories into the days where you could pickup a clean 67-69 firebird with zero rust (I live in California, the land of no rust but you pay for it) for under $4k. First gen camero’s were not very really cheap even in the mid 90’s. Thanks for the video.
