What If Humans Are NOT Earth's First Civilization?

- A famous thought experiment asked: what if humans were not the first civilization to live on earth? This radical idea, known as the Silurian Hypothesis, is not a scientifically likely possibility. However, it’s a captivating story, and serves as a useful test for understanding how life evolves - and what it leaves behind.

In this video, we clearly depict the silurian hypothesis as nothing more than a meaningful and interesting thought experiment. Multiple times throughout, we clearly say there is no evidence for a pre-human civilization. I appreciate all feedback in the comments, but some of them have not watched the video and are judging a little too quickly. Thanks to you all of you who are watching for the context and not just the title. You can't say everything you need to say in a TH-cam title - that's where the video comes in.
Normally I would never watch something that seems like wild speculation, but your videos are always thoughtfully done and have actually made me rethink consuming any hypothetical information. Anyways thanks for your work, always stoked every time a video you make comes out

Imagine aliens find our radio signals and come find us on earth and we ask "How did you find us" and they say "We picked up your radio signals" When they show us what signals they had found it turns out to be radio signals broadcasted millions of years ago by previous advanced civilisation. 😮😊

Its about 3 and a half million years for all of human exsistance including the earliest forms
@@ActJack That's wrong, if you include our primate form in, it's something between 32 and 35 million years, scientists are not quite sure about that due to some confusing archaeological discoveries.
@emreeren13 if your gonna include our primate form you might as well say we are 85 million years old considering we are still primates. You're both wrong, homo sapiens diverged around 500,000 years ago. The earliest record of homo sapiens (humans) is from 300,000 years ago
@@stfuyfc69420 I'm not wrong about your last part, I didn't say anything to that haha. And well we don't really know when that was with the Homo Sapiens, some say 400'000 some 500'000 years ago and we also don't really have crucial material to define that.
But you're right, our primate form is way older than what I said. I guess with 32-35 million years I wanted to refere to the era between Eocene and Oligocene when the Catarrhini split ways in the process of evolution and the Old World Monkeys (Cercopithecidae) appeared, alongside with our ancestors the Human-like Apes (Hominoidea) that already didn't have tails. I personally think that era was very defining for us humans. Because the (almost) only thing that's left from there is the Hominization.
Additionally, I think I also made a cut there because if you don't, you could go backwards until you land in the primordial soup 😂👍🏻
Our earlist form was a bacteria.
Nearly all of the known mass extinctions have an oopart from the same time period. Probably been at least 5 previous advanced civilizations on Earth.
Then where are the collections of artificial materials? Unnatural mineral clusters etc etc.
Just no evidence of any of that.
If humans have been genetically complete for 300,000 years (some say more but thats in the video, lets keep it at that), why would they just wander around playing hunter gatherer for the first 294,000 (98% of the time) then suddenly settle in Sumer and be like 'Whelp, time to start farming and writing things down'?
Ancient people gave an answer to that question but it is blown off as just mythology
...and have most of geometry and math solved from the start
The book of Enoch answers that question pretty thoroughly for me
I always wonder if Silurians left Earth and are coming back as we speak

If you can make all these animations, you can make a thumbnail that isn't AI
give us ONE good reason why it being made by AI is a problem?
@Hidlerspilder99, what makes you think the animations aren't made with AI as well? The narrator is an AI voice, so I would venture to guess the animations are as well.
Or they can simply do what ever they want with their content.
This hypothesis truly makes the most sense and would explain the sightings that we cannot identify in our airspaces today.
An advanced intelligent race that lives hundreds or thousands of years would likely have tried space exploration but came to the limitations of interstellar transport, colonization and time.
That would leave them staying within our solar system, and ort cloud, which spans up to one light year away from our sun.
They may also live underground in the earth's crust with less issue regarding global cooling and warming that occurs.
There are a lot of places to hide or stay isolated on this planet and I think they really don't want contact with us now or ever.
Why has your animation gotten so much worse? The narrator is one thing but the animation on this channel has tanked.
It's fine!
Great vid. Love the examples of different technologies
It's always a pleasure to watch and listen to your videos. Much appreciated.
The earth is at least 4 billion years old.
Chances are, a handful of intelligent beings arose, however all never progress beyond hunter gatherer, imo. No great cities or monuments. Just huts, built in their unique way and then they were gone.
Humans, it seems, are the only ones who progressed beyond that filter.
I also think Humans have missing history and were far more advance in the past in terms of sciences and education, but nothing beyond stoneworks and master seafarers.
Massive structure All those structures would be buried or destroyed. That's why all the stuff last the most underground or in the ocean. Our Government knows the truth
what if pokemons lived here waaaaay before us?!?!
The way you are using "industrious" to tease out industrialism-adjacent thoughts from the viewer, you are strongly alluding to a level of technological progress, which would be impossible for a previous civilization to have been attained.
Interpreting the Silurian Hypothesis as the existence of a pre-human technological civilization is fundamentally flawed in one very crucial aspect: we have exploited our natural resources to the point that if we were to go extinct, no evolution of another species coming after us could enter the industrial age, because there wouldn't be enough easily extractable resources left to gradually progress to more sophisticated technology.
If we needed that kind of exploitation of resources to progress to this level, one could argue that any previous civilization would have also had to, removing the possibility that any such civilization could have existed before us. Even if they could have done with less, we would see at least some atypically inconsistent resource scarcity, localized signs of resource depletion in some geological strata... which we don't.
So if there was a previous civilization, it had to have been pre-industrial. "Industrious" with sticks and stones, the occasional meteoric iron, nothing that would even equal our bronze age. Anything more would have left at the very least unexplainable localized inconsistencies. Especially if that pre-human civilization existed recently enough to be able to "pass down" sophisticated technology like the Baghdad Battery or the Antikythera mechanism.
You can't selectively argue for one thing, then the other thing an expect people to consider your argument full. The civilization either existed millions of years ago, so they could not have possibly passed down anything, because tectonics erased every trace of them (which still needs them to have left natural resources mostly intact for us), or they existed recently enough for their "industriousness" to be detectable.
Let's take just one example of global human impact: microplastics. The fact that microplastics are found in sedimentary layers, remote areas, and even at the bottom of the Mariana Trench indicates that modern industrial activities leave durable and traceable markers. If we went extinct, we'd be pretty easy to trace in the geological record.
Nice other way to see things. Thanks. Those microplastics though, indeed they get everywhere, even inside my proverbial can of tuna.
Very thorough write up for your position. I can’t refute any of this, but it’s certainly nice to wonder.
Your logic is weak af. Both problems are solved by simply thinking- natural resources: they did use them, just different ones to us, they exhausted them and coal and oil are here cause they saw them as just interesting geological byproducts. Microplastics only last like that because of their chemical structure, maybe the ancient race simply mass produced something biodegradable and used that as we use plastic.
@@leucamaclean8900 So my argument is weak, but yours hinges on coming up with a make-believe resource that universally doesn't exist anymore to be a discoverable, viable alternative to... anything we actually know of. Got it chief...
That debunking is for like atlantis shit, and doesn't work for the silurian hypothesis due to the time scale of 100s of millions of years. That's because the hypothesis isn't some ancient alien nonsense, but an archeological issue for (distant) future human colonists to new worlds. The truth is, given enough time, all evidence we were here will be wiped away. There are ways to tell, like looking at radioactive decay and ice core samples. They are far from concrete proof, though. That's because it would be nearly impossible to concretly prove much of anything that happened on an alien planet 150,000,000 years ago.
The old ones worshipped the God Chutulu. Thier cities lie in the Mountains of Madness.

Fantastic video with excellent animation and great narration. Brilliant as a thought experiment to consider both our own planet and the evolution of life elsewhere in the solar system. Great work Koranos! ❤

Archaeologist is not the correct term lads. Archaeologist study remains of human civilisation, not pre human remains. You are thinking of paleontologists.
The Silurian period was 448 MYA. So if a civilization rose during that time to influence people in Babylon, it has to survive 2 mass extinction & around 400 Million years 😅
As far as I know, everybody knows that humans were never the first on Earth.

They were pretty shy since they never carved a depiction of themselves on any of the great stonework's.
