Dad. Was a Tool & Die maker for Packard from 35 to 45. He worked on the protype Rolls Royce Merlin engines that they tried to.use in the P38 instead of the Allison. Also he owned a post war Packard that had the engine wear out in short order. He called a friend at Packard where he was told they were using green blocks. My Dad's 1st cousin was in the PT Boats in the same squadron.as JFK in the Solomons. He commented that a lot of the officers were from wealthy east coast families because they had sail boat experience.
Best to be accurate. The Miss America X engines were only rated at 1200hp with 1600hp available only for 60 seconds. The Pachard V12s in WW2 PT boats were only 1200 hp and their range was very small due to fuel consumption. The P51s used RR Merlin engines with some made by Packard under license. The P51s in Europe in 1944-45 came with no engines by ship and had Merlins installed in Britain.
Garwoods engines were modified they claimed 6800 for the 4 here is the video th-cam.com/video/kl9wo_LCei0/w-d-xo.html I sure wish it had sound those carbs flowing those garden hoses of fuel on the dyno sure do look nice!😀
40 years ago I heard of a guy who had transmissions for straight 8 buicks so I went out to his place and he showed me the 25 packards he had in his barn 1927 to 1956, he was in his 70's and I shudder to think what happened to those cars
Four Packard V12s in one boat! At WOT, the sound must be 150 dBa and absolutely deafening! But what a thrill it would be to ride in it. The PT boats only had three. These were very reliable, powerful, magnificent engines.
Some Very Beautiful😍 and Cool😎 Carriages🙂/Automobiles. My father, a WWII veteran, really liked and spoke highly of Packard and Packard Engines/Manufacturing. Sad how financial issues, competition and the timing of those things lead to mergers that eventually didn't last. Fortunately there are those able to preserve and restore quite well, those excellent pieces of Packard History.👍🏻
I own a Packard that I would place a bet that there was not another one like mine there. I have a 1939 CANADIAN built 120 Touring Sedan that was built less than 3 months before the plant shut down due to Canada entering WW2! LOL, about the only difference I have noticed, is the Canadian built car has no woodgraining on the interior pieces..
If your're going to show us the boat, show us just the boat, like the title of the video says.Do you see the word 'cars' in the title? You do?Well you better get glasses then, buddy
@chrisbrady-t1u Thank you for the suggestion and watching. I like to show boats when I come across them, and it was really the jewel in the building tour.

@@tabs9213 That's awesome! Thank you for watching.
Packard also made aluminum block V-12 diesels fitted to minesweepers.
We had 4 on the sweep I was on during Vietnam!
All I can say is WOW!!!! That's just incredible, the amount of Packard vehicles and engines you have.

Not hyperbole!
Hello, lovely looking automobiles. The fellow reminded me that, in the glove box of my 1977 Toyota Corolla Coupe, I kept a jar of Grey Poupon mustard.

Grabber Blue? GRABBER BLUE??? -----as a Mercury guy, it's Competition Blue.
2000 horsepower each engine on 1932 fuel?
I'd be impressed if they made 1000 horsepower, but I'd still need to see the dyno chart!
No chart but here it is on the dyno looks like they were actually 1700hp each th-cam.com/video/kl9wo_LCei0/w-d-xo.html
The U.S. customs had 4 of those in their old boats
You should’ve talked a little bit about the boat instead of the 100 and other things you talked about
shouldn't it be "Packard V12 Engines *in* Boat"

PT boats were made with mahogany and ten different other woods, not just plywood you dolts.
Thanks for watching and the correction!
What’s dolts?
@@Jamessmith-j4p He is saying that Mark and I are not very bright.
@@SpeedandShineTV Well he is wrong!
Hulls were 2 layers of 1" mahogany at right angles to each layer with a layer of canvas between, no "Plywood" in the hulls !!!
