Steel is 4145 H MODIFIED. Not your average steel.. quite tough but chips excellent. 93mm is the smallest tool I can use so I will make one to cut 74mm.

What are those score marks on the face of the part for prior to drilling?

@@ntwadumela_ if you look at the trepanning tool, there is a wooden pad on it. He uses a chisel to make those marks, wich cut the wood.(wich is shown in the video) This way the pad fits the bore perfectly and keeps the tool nice and straight.

This brings back memories of my first real job working in a trepan shop in Houston back in the late 1970's. I don't remember the numbers, but recall the shop drilling over two miles of hole per month! They were running over 8 machines with two shifts. I didn't run any of them, I help build the trepanners they had, did a lot of design work, drafting, and making parts for the machines. The company was recently shut down and is up for sale. So sad!!! Enjoy your videos! Keep them coming! Ken

I was told by a respectable machine shop owner that gun drills very deep bores that the only way to keep the bore straight, with respect to OD, is to turn the work and turn the drill in opposite directions ( obviously ). Hello Dave, what type of steel bar is this, certainly appears to be cutting far easier than some of the material you have taken on.

But I'm disappointed you did not show the most important part, the set up and explaining that which your boring out procedure etc
Anyone can watch a round with slight defects turning and a boring bar going into it, But you know the most important parts were left out,
Besides the sound was barely understood, to much back ground sound effects
