My theory is that he respected the fact that Elizabeth was willing to call the police on Roger. He also is falling for Vicki and her fate seems to be tied to the Collins family.
@@jonhinson5701When I first viewed the drawing room scene between Joan Bennett and Mitch Ryan going at it with each other I was rather amazed at Elizabeths change in attitude toward Burke as he was getting ready to leave.
John Karlen's first appearance and he gets gripped against the clock by Mitchell Ryan. Talk about jumping straight into the fire.
I heard an instrumental version of She's a Woman by The Beatles on the jukebox.

He more so really wanted revenge against Roger than the entire family. It's just that he saw Liz protecting the true manslaughter culprit.
