Great question! I chilled the cake in the fridge until the white frosting was very cold and firm and then spread on the band of blue frosting. By the time I had smoothed it with my cake comb and spread on the next colour, it had chilled so the next colour didn't mix with it. If your cake isn't very cold you would need to put it in the fridge between each colour to set them.

I would do such a cake with cutting the cake board before placing it n also keeping the hole between so as to we can put a centre dowel for a more safety cake❤
I do the central dowel after assembling - I find it's easier to get the cake straight that way rather than putting the dowel into the first cake and then lowering the next part onto it

It depends on the size of the cake and how large you cut the portions. This cake is 6 inches wide and I cut 24 huge slices out of it but with smaller slices you could definitely get at least 48 slices

I use Chefmaster (a US brand) and it's not oil based. I haven't used any UK brands but just got some from Sweet Stamp that I want to try!
