    Hi im fascinated by this...i have some questions..
    How thick is the steel your using...3mm ?
    Also if you weld the wheel continuously does it not distort the wheel ?
    Thanks

      Hi, yes they were 3mm bands but we always put a band in that is the same thickness as the wheel for safety. No it does not distort the wheel at all, thanks for watching.

    I'm not sure.. But that doesn't look like a sure way to make sure the wheel is straight before welding ..

      We didn't show in the video that we spin the wheel up in the lathe and true it up. Maybe we will do a updated video soon now that we have a bit more experience filming.

    ASME testing has proven that the push or pull welding provide the same strength weld.

      Matthew Moilanen But if he was going clockwise it would be going downhill... I don’t think his comment has anything todo with push or pull.

    For the cost of a 13" racing wheel. Any width, any backspacing, only two pieces, stronger, lighter, and virtually no run-out? My time on the car is more valuable than this. My dad did a version of this in the 60's, but they didn't have "mass produced, custom" wheels back then.

      I've been around race cars all of my 63 years. When it comes to wheels, you aren't looking hard enough. All of the wheel companies I've ever dealt with could build anything I needed, with more precision, less time, stronger, yet lighter, and at a fair price.
      We've made more for our cars than anybody we raced against. But nothing from the spindles out on the front, or the rotors out on the rear. Not just for safety, but for consistency. For crash repair, if we order the same as last time, we get exactly the same as last time. And if we don't, we can send it back, and not wasted our time.

    Tack the ends of the band together first,then you won't have to fight it all the way,yes I have done this.

    • @DDS029
      @DDS029 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      If you notice, he didn't cut to exact length until the last tack around the wheel. Easier then trying to measure around the wheel to cut the band at the exact length first, and every time.
