Chlorine can kill birds, bees and insects that come to drink. The best way I have found is to dump the water out, clean it with baking soda, rinse well, and put it back together. I notice as soon as I do this, the birds come back to drink.
I agree. Chlorine added to water creates cancer causing compounds, which is why they have to be removed from drinking water before it is sent to homes and businesses.
Darlene, its funny. I just came here to point out what a bad idea he is presenting as it will kill wildlife. Worse than that, I googled how to keep a solar fountain clean naturally. Please don't subscribe folks. BAD, IGNORANT ADVICE IN VIDEO. And we don't need less bees
hydrogen peroxide will keep a pond clean and isn't toxic. best hack I've ever seen and waaaay cheaper than those blue liquid cleaners. also, put a tiny bit of dawn dish soap in a recirculating urn and it will keep mosquitoes from breeding in any of the water that doesn't move enough.
YES and it can also kill bees who are already endangered. ANYONE regardless of intelligence or knowledge can post a video apparently. It is BAD ADVICE TO USE CHLORINE
That really wasn't responsible. He should have offered several options in addition to the OBVIOUS chlorine answer...bleach too for that matter. How he did not assume that lots of people ACTUALLY DO use these as the name applies. Should have been a given!
Sorry, i switched off when you mistakenly stated that you get warmer temperatures. Unless you have rewritten the laws of physics and thermodynamics, temperature is a numerical measurement of available heat. You can have hot or cold (even warmer) conditions but not temperatures. Until you can get the basic right, i will not listen.
Tania Jackson how about just adding a little bit of chlorine, just enough to kill the algae. I mean our government treats our tap water with chlorine...
If you smell chlorine in a pool, then the pool is not sanitized - you are smelling combined chloramines. A properly sanitized pool, using chlorine, will have no smell at all. So the answer is NO, as long as you are using the proper amount of chlorine for the amount of water in your fountain.
Chlorine is in tap water and you are all still alive. A little bit of chlorine in your water every once in a while is not going to kill all the birds and your dogs.
Not correct, it is a very small concentration. Also smaller animals and bees are more sensitive to it as they are, well, small. Advice in this video is ignorant.
You cannot (unless you have managed to re-write the laws of physics) have Warmer, Hot, or Cold Temperatures. You may have warmer, hotter or colder Conditions, bringing about HIGHER, or LOWER temperatures. Temperature is a measurement of available heat. To confuse and mix the two is a basic schoolboy howler of a misconception, all because you didn't listen to that basic english grammer when you had the opportunity. Please stop spouting wrong information until you actually know what you are talking about. Potassium permanganate can prevent mosquitoes from breeding in water, and harmless in small doses. A teaspoon is noticeable in a learning swimming pool.

How about Activated Charcoal? Commonly Available for Fish Tanks? Would that help to keep the water clean and also eliminate bad smells?
If you put the chlorine in at night, does it dissipate by morning? So it is safe for the birds?
No it is NOT safe for birds!
isn't chlorine bad for birds if they drink from the fountain?
YES and it can also kill bees who are already endangered. ANYONE regardless of intelligence or knowledge can post a video apparently. It is BAD ADVICE TO USE CHLORINE
HEllo,,,,is it better to keep fountains running all the time? I'm not always in my area and want to conserve power
If you put chlorine in the bird bath won’t it kill the birds that bathe and drink from the bird bath fountain?
@ehowgarden How much chlorine can you use without harm to birds for a birdbath?
No matter the quantity it will kill all birds.
hello im worry about the birds outside im using algae solution on my fountain and birds keeps drinking water is it safe ?? please reply
Larry1980s yes
I've read that hydrogen peroxide can be used and is safer for the wildlife.
hydrogen peroxide works great
Will it keep algae from growing in the fountain? And keep my white rocks clean and not become green?
good thoughts wished i had bought another kind of fountain
If Chlorine is bad what chemical should I use for a pondless fountain - it has a 27 gal reservoir ----- also it is in sun most of the day
No chlorine! Birds drink out of my fountains.
i have 5th generation goldfish in my fountain. no way am i putting chlorine in it.
i would like something SAFE FOR BIRDS ANIMALS
There are anti-algae products that are safe for wildlife. I've seen them advertised.
That really wasn't responsible. He should have offered several options in addition to the OBVIOUS chlorine answer...bleach too for that matter. How he did not assume that lots of people ACTUALLY DO use these as the name applies. Should have been a given!
Is it safe for birds? Wildlife!?
NO Please don't. Bad advice in video.
Will that chlorine hurt the hummingbirds or birds that drink from the fountains or bath in them?
Yes! Absolutely!
ABSOLUTELY
You should not use chlorine if you wish to attract wildlife.

Thanks my brutha
I didn’t hear any birds in his yard. 🥺😢

Beto G good point 🦜🌻
Don't you worry about swimming pools too 🧐
Tweet tweet 😂🤣😅
He's killed everything. He probably also puts it in his tap water (didn't hear any kids in the background)
nice
Will adding chorline give the fountain water a pool like smell? Will clorine water damage plants?

Will the chlorine kill pigeons and cats if so I shall put it in ASAP
Hopefully 😂🤣
Where do you live? Just curious
wait, so none of these people use house water for their bird baths ? which is chlorinated? hmmm
Not enough chlorine obviously. If it were enough, we couldn't drink it. Hense not safe for birds or animals. Not rocket science.
where to purchase chlorine pls send me link
use hydrogen peroxide. cheap. works great
I cant concentrate, his shirt is so oversized it's just weird

Please pay attention to spelling; it's grammar, not grammer. 😉
@@johanna6050Good for you.
NO CHLORINE!!!
Bad advice.
My dog might try to drink out of it
Please delete this video. Chlorine is for the pool not birds.
I've found that it's not the chlorine that kills the birds, but the high powered pellet gun I use to keep the buggers away from my fountain.
Shawn Young 🤣🤣🤣
Your sick
ShAwn your so cool! What a loser!
I have a 22 that I use to keep wildlife killers away
