We have one and will never let it go cause, well, ... it's just a totally awesome machine! Ahead of it's time and still is. Also, still holding it's price pretty well. I love it when a synth holds it's value and/or the price increases over time. Example is, the Quasimidi Sirius which has, at least, doubled in price the last few years .. and ... YEAH BABY!, we got one!
I love the ultranova, it's got a great keybed, great sounds aside from low end basses, it has a great arp. It's quick to edit but deep and powerful. My only issue is that the power button slider on mine is getting finicky (probably some oxidation). I usually made my own presets on this unit as I wanted more 70s and 80s inspired sounds. Pairs great with seqs and drum machines. It was my first "real" synth and one day I'd love to see a mark ii model with less menu diving, more polyphony, better low end bass and a bigger keybed. I think it's still relevant today sound and feature wise. Plus novation have great customer service in my personal experience with them.
Love my Ultranova. Ridiculously versatile, and an easy recommendation for anybody who enjoys sound design. Worth the time to really familiarize yourself with the sound engine if you get one. It can cover a lot more ground than most of the videos here on TH-cam would necessarily lead someone to believe.
Sweet! Glad you got to play one. I’ve had one for a few years now. I play close to everyday and am still finding out new things in it. I’m just now getting into the wave tables… never really wanted to but I feel like learning about them now. I pair this with an e-mu command station, yahama qy-100 (for sequencing), Yamaha motif 6, and sometimes traktor pro 3. Getting all these going together at the same time is so fun!!! Thanks for the video!
I love novation synths. I got inlove and jealous of a friend's Nova. I love ultranova but never managed to own one. Luckily i managed to own an X Station few months ago in a sick price. Its a bit of a combination of all Nova and KS. Long live Novation and its synths❤️
I like this synth so much I bought 2 of them! The Ultranova has only ONE fault.. no multi timbral midi ability. The NOVA desktop module before it and the KS49/61 before that have 4 part midi channel multi timbral ability so it is like having 4 synths in one to play a 4 track sequence or song without having to use a DAW/audio music recorder for a bass track, melody track, arp track, and chord track. Your PMA 5 can trigger only the one midi channel on the Ultranova and not 4 channels so again, the only fault is that. Hence why I bought 2 Ultranovas and now a mininova too! This keyboard has touch knobs so be aware of that while noodling! The Ultra has a 40 band vocoder, 16 voice polyphony and monotimbral. I think it has 512 presets instead of the 128 that the other synths before it have. I could be misremembering though, it may only be 256. The mic is NOT hardwired. The socket is strong grip. You have to hold the synth down while firmly lifting up(pull up at the base of the mic)to unplug it cause I do not have mics on either of my units but the MININOVA mic plugs into the ultranovas just fine so it is the same mic.
@Cheeses_K_Riced oh oh! Focusrite? What? I did not get the memo. So Novation has been bought out? Oh boy.. You are correct, the actual flaw IS the rubberized pitch and mod wheels yes. My opinion of a flaw is that it is monotimbral but as you said, the sound system makes up for it. It sucks, the Nova, supernova, and KS49/61 all have 4 part multitimbral synth engines and they are much older units. That is why I bought 2 Ultranovas and one mininova and microkorg, I can just hook up 4 different units via mixer and midi patchbay to get my 4 part multimbral midi sequencing done that way. I do not have a good midi syncable audio external recorder as of yet so everything I do is midi only and record to audacity on my dying laptop once the full song is done and playing back. Sucks but it works.
Better sounding than a stale old VSTi I guess, I own one great for designing sounds out of it can be made to sound warm like yellow piss or stone cold as a rock in snow
i had one a while ago , 8 Octave ARP was crazee !!!

I'd like a 61 key version. More notes for me to miss :)
Yup...would never sell it
had one back in the day, great little synth! Very expressive. If i seen one for sale for a good price id be tempted to buy it again
i picked up one a couple months ago for live shows since i could power it through my laptop. really nice unit.
I love my ultranova. Underrated imho. Subscribed.
Cheers! Yeah this is a synth that is quite warm to my heart

Couldn't agree more!

Glad you enjoyed it. This synth is from a time when synths were crazy, it was a competition to see who could be the most crazy :)
Been wanting to grab one of these for ages. I think it's time to take the jump and just get one. Thanks for the cool video.
Any time!
Sounds nice, I'm considering swapping my MS2000 for one of these 🙂🙂
Is THE Synth

Yep, I have deep respect for their innovative approach to sound.
