Ashtabula, Ohio - a Two-Sided City - lots of abandonment

- This video is my representation of my impression of Ashtabula. Watch til the end because there is something different that really sums this place up.
I had stopped a couple times in the past but never actually took a day to have a closer look until now. I was shocked at how bad the downtown was. Almost completely abandoned and neglected. The only place downtown with people in it was the library, replete with emergency naloxone. There were several rude people shouting at us and trying to start shit downtown and at the mall-except in the nice parts of town, all was fine there. The difference in the neighborhoods is stark, and there is a big drug problem. I feel sad for the city because it has so much potential being right on Lake Erie. All cities in the USA are going this way, though. So enjoy my artistic interpretation of Ashtabula, OH.
Thanks Joe
It's definitely a 2-sided city for sure and definitely the old town in some parts. looks rough. Gotta stop at the beach and the mall. Thanks for sharing
Heck yea!
I remembered your walk around with your friend of Century III Mall, if Ashtabula mall did not have the Hospital, Dunham Sports, Shoe Dept and Jo Ann the Mall would have been shuttered and suffered the same fate of neglect and vandalizing of the property. The nicest and best kept property on the wrong side of the bridge is the rehabilitation clinic FYI folks. I probably have already mentioned it before but the Shenango Vally Mall and the JC Penneys will be closing May 31st and it was kept up and clean like the Town Center in your video. If you do get a chance theres a Mall in Ontario Ohio just West of Mansfield off 71 South/30 West called the Richland Mall head even more West you could possibly do the Round Robin of the Lima, Findlay , Marion, Defiance and Bowling Green Malls heck you could even hit the Sandusky Mall on your back home just a thought. Oh let us not forget that Midway Mall and personally I do not think that some of the Malls I mentioned will be around after 2024/2025.
Very nice video and Keep em Rolling!
Wow thanks for the suggestions! I recently went to Shenango but did not do video. The mall is really small and depressing!
"always enough fish to be shared around" is what Ashtabula means in Lenape
Great video! Thanks for showing this. ❤
Thanks for watching!
The folks that should be living there are probably homeless in California.
What was the music right at the very beginning of your video? You're not giving credit to it.
I was born in Ashtabula, Ohio. I've always said the best thing my parents ever did was move out of that place. Sadly, I don't think anyone can save Ashtabula.
wow! yeah i agree
Hopefully, better days are ahead.Look up my hometown of Clarksburg West Virginia and check out the abandoned 120 year old Waldo Hotel, once the most luxurious hotel in the state.
Wow! That place looks like it was amazing at one point!!
Oohh!! Nice mural! Goodness!! Rather run down!! 😮😲! Are you using your phone to record all this? ❤ Have you ever gone to Kensington? Near Philadelphia, PA? Zombie land! Hugs kisses my lovely lady friend, goddess, and queen 😘🌹👸😋❤️💐
Right!! yes i am using my phone. No I did see video and street view of it and it looks terrible!
@@twiston123 I have watched a few street videos of the drug laden part of Kensington... Truly sad. I hope you don't go, but if you do, be with someone! 👸🌹😘
I had always heard of Ashtabula, so I stopped by maybe 12 years ago......not much there! But, I think it was Point Park that had a bucket from a Hulett Unloader! Looks like it was the center for coal shipments.
I saw that!! It was really cool
was it 1600's king charles the 2nd established territorial boarders north of the mason dixon line once represented freedom & opportunity now the line is online
re: Wall @ 1:38
this happened recently in Davenport Iowa. The inner and outer row of bricks separate and cause a collapse. It's a real problem with brick buildings around 100 or so years old...
That’s interesting, thank you for the info!!!
@@twiston123 To be fair, I only found that out because of the davenport collapse. :)
You're welcome!
Cuyahoga rivare valley.
lOTS OF LOVELY GIRLS THERE...
Really?😮
ashtabeautiful
😊
In general, a grim, desolate place.
Oh yeah!
Sad to see this, It's happening all over America now, Historic Buildings lost for ever, every single day, once they're gone they're gone, it baffles me why the city doesn't step in and fix some of these places up, or do the $1 dollar scheme, where you buy the building for a dollar but you have to prove you have the funds to fix it up, and you're not allowed to sell it for 5 years. But nah, i guess they don't care enough to do that.
Right! That would be great!
it is a testament of where are country is economically.
Exactly!
Not a lot left in the mall?
It was like a barren wasteland!
We should bump into each other sometime, you guys record the empty buildings and I will record the people 😀
LOL!😂
Lyd Wetzel, I'll See You on the Next TH-cam Video, About the Abandoned Places, How about Abandoned Burger King!!!?

I think I've found a new channel. I used to drive through Ohio a lot back in the 90s and I thought up around Seville-Lodi was the perfect place for me. I never left Florida. Thank you Lyd. James

That town has definitely seen better days past of long ago from past years of history of generations of population growth and prosperity and prosperity and all of a sudden complete collapse and destruction and decline of once a great proud place to live in but had history puts it today not anymore baby 👶 😮😮😮😮😮😮😮😮😮😮
