It is really an awesome medicine. Fun fact it was developed based on the venom of Gila monster. It would be such a shame if people who have medical indication for it (regardless if it's diabetes, prediabetes or obesity) lost access to it because of some shennanigans of dieting industry.
Depends on the dose. The 1mg pen is probably $900. The 4mg pens are $1200, and the higher you go, the more expensive they are. The $900.pen is a starter dose that you titrate up from.
You get things from society when you’re providing to or taking from society. Taking from society will hurt you and others in the long term but profit you in the short term. Giving to others will profit you and others in the long term but you’re not sure if the people you’re giving to will give back to you. It’s really all about choice, and making the right ones.

I work at a pharmacy. Insurance has stopped covering Ozempic for those who intend to use it for weight lose purposes. It’s only covered if you are diabetic and “pre-diabetes” does not count. The medication without insurance is anywhere from $800 to $1,300 per box. And this stuff is not going to get cheaper just because it works, just like Insulin is still hundreds of dollars. When Oprah did her special talking about Ozempic, my pharmacist was frustrated because a lot of what she said was misleading and was going to spread misinformation.
@@ilonat8373 Ozempic is really helpful in management of type II diabetes. I'm sure it has saved many lives, albeit indirectly. It would be such a shame if all this circus would ruin it for people.
@@chanterelle483 I doesn't safe lifes. It supposed to help people with diabetes type 2 to lose weight lowering the sugar levels. It's not a life saving medicine.
A little insight from someone who worked front desk for a doctor's office and specifically took refill requests a lot: The big thing about the Ozempic craze is that the people who actually needed it (ones with diabetes) couldn't get access to it because people who didn't necessarily need it (for weightloss) had been purchasing so much that there was a shortage. It was genuinely awful to be struggling to get insurance to cover this expensive drug only for people with deep pockets to be using it as a diet fad.
Yes! This has been a huge problem for my Nan. She has switched 3 times purely because as soon as ozempic isn’t available they switch to another diabetic injection. Completely screws her over as there is no slow wean off like you do with all regular medications.
Also don’t think people without insulin resistance understand that people with the diagnosis take it not because a unwillingness to make lifestyle changes and exercise but because the condition makes is difficult to lose weight with those changes alone and being able to get that ball rolling help improve that persons ability to maintain a healthy weight.(which is important for keeping insulin resistance managed and prevent other complications)Also people can have insulin resistance but not yet have diabetes or have other conditions caused by it like pcos.
I'm diabetic and still on the lowest dose of Mounjorno for the same reason. It's being sold to anyone and everyone, just like Ozempic, Wegovy, Semaglutide and all the other similar drugs. Diabetics are struggling so random jerks can lose that last stubborn inch or three. It's INFURIATING.
So Ozempic did actually save my life. I have something called hyperphagia, which is an extreme, insatiable, desperate hunger no matter how much you eat. I would eat until 100% full, half an hour later I was hungry again. Food was all I could think about. I was always so insanely hungry that I even considered eating non-food things. Nothing stopped it. I was 374lbs and simply waiting to die because I had zero means of fixing myself. I could not stop the hunger no matter how much I ate. No drug touched it. I wanted to die, and was severely depressed and suicidal. I was put on ozempic as a final, last ditch effort after so, so many other drugs, and have lost 66lbs so far. It stopped my hunger entirely, to the point where now I only eat when I need to. I am able to walk without pain. I can touch my toes. I can shower without exhausting myself. I no longer obsess over food. I don't feel hungry, for the first time in my life, I no longer care about food, and I am able to eat healthy. Yes, I am probably an unusual case, but people like me are out there, and this drug will actually save our lives. It's why I'm still here, getting better. On a side note, for people who might be angry at my using doses that are designed for a diabetic. I ended up pre-diabetic at 34 because of my condition, and only get a compounding version of the drug, not the real one. My treatment in no way impacts the ability of a diabetic to get the medication.
Great for you! Some people obviously do need the drug for weight loss and prediabetes. The concern is, what dieting culture and bussiness will do with it.
@@chanterelle483 Very much so. But it's swung so far in the other direction that me being prediabetic means I can no longer have access to it. Only diabetics are allowed it. Even though I used to qualify due to the prediabetes and BMI being over 40. Not sure what I'm going to do now. Just wait for death, I suppose. It's what I was doing before the drug saved my life
Actually it does! Im severely diabetic and I had to be hospitalized for a prolonged period of time because there was a nationwide shortage of Ozempic and Trulicity! I was very close to death! However, with that said, Hyperphagia is a legit reason to be on it! I struggled with losing weight for decades, and found that when I stopped eating because the clock said so, and only ate when I was hungry, I lost about 20% of my body weight (120kg to 100ish). No drugs required.
Yes dude! I used to get in SO much trouble when I didn’t eat when I wanted. Now I’m almost 300 lbs! I got grounded for saying “no thank you I’m not hungry” when it was lunch time at 11:30 am.
Oprah has binge eating disorder. She once ate 30lbs of Mac and cheese after her movie flopped. I don’t think she even knows the difference between hunger and craving. If anyone was a candidate for ozempic to loose weight, it’s definitely Oprah. With all the diets she tried, and binge eating, I doubt her body knows how to properly produce hormones anymore lol
That’s great! Sometimes that works but often times it’s unfortunately not that simple for a lot of people. Thyroid issues, hormone problems and medical conditions can cause weight to just kind of stick to people. Also, women biologically often have a really hard time losing weight unless they’ve got a fast metabolism because their bodies naturally want to keep nutrients just in case they get pregnant and the extra is needed for a baby. But I’m glad it was a simple as limiting food for you!
Food has become a business, and companies only care about making money, they make money from us buying their products, the more we buy the more money they make. There's no such thing as a breakfast lunch or dinner food... It's all just marketing to get us to buy as much food as possible. Think about living more like animals (hunter gathers) we wouldn't be looking for foods that fit a specific time of day, it'd be what is there, and if we found a lot of a specific thing then we'd eat that at whatever time we needed to eat. Every meal would require us to work (burn calories) to get (earn) that meal. You'd have to go to collect berries nuts and leaves, you'd have to dig to get roots, you'd have to climb to pick fruit, you'd have to chase catch and carry back animals (or whatever you'd gathered). People no longer see food as fuel, they no longer eat in terms of replacing what they've burnt off, they think more about pleasing their tongue than anything else. Food has become a source of fulfillent and pleasure as a substitute for all the things they can't have (afford).

It got to where he would feel better, then take the next dose (every Friday like clockwork) and the cycle would start over again. He’s no longer on it, and I’m glad. But yeah, crazy to know Oprah supports it.
Yeah, it’s different for every person. Also, people who take it for diabetes have a way lower dose than those who take it for weight loss. So, people who use Ozempic for weight loss tend to have more side effects.
i have a condition called gastroparesis that ozempic is mimicking.. gastroparesis means delayed gastric emptying, which unfortunately my body does naturally and i am being put on a feeding tube because gastroparesis has made me extremely malnourished because my food wont digest properly and I often throw it up, i cannot imagine why anyone would do that to themselves.. if i had a chance at a normal stomach i would take it in a heartbeat. long term use of ozempic will absolutely lead to chronic gastroparesis and while not everyone ends up on a feeding tube, many will.
My dad was on Ozempic for a month or two (he has type 2) and he told me about how it made him throw up all the time and eventually had to switch medications because of how horrible the side effects for him were. I'm trying to lose weight myself so I don't develop type 2 diabetes since I have a high likelihood of getting due to genetics. As much as I don't want diabetes, I'd rather try some other way than this.
Type one diabetic here! ^^ very happy you shared some information, oompa. Any sort of information shared, especially by someone with a platform, can be life saving.
t1 here too, and same. Kids used to avoid me thinking I was contagious or something and picked on me relentlessly. It was terrible, and led to my big teenage rebellion being me literally not taking care of my diabetes properly for years. I'm proud to say though that I've been doing a lot better the past few years since I met my partner; she's really helped me see my own self worth and I've put in the work. My a1c has never been better and I will forever be grateful to have met someone so amazing :) I hope you are doing better these days as well

Gastroparesis is a disorder characterized by slow gastric emptying and it is a horrible disorder that can be debilitating and often leads to feeding tubes or gastric pacemakers. Doctors are not warning properly or considering the consequences for the patients. These drugs should be limited to those who absolutely need it to save their lives, the risks are far too great.
In the UK the company who makes it has been banned for two years after bribing doctors to prescribe it and once you take it, it’s hard to stop. There’s no research on long term use. I completely agree with you. X
I can attest, I've had it nearly all my life and not being able to eat or even drink when your body is hitting the point of fatigue from fasting so long is actual misery. The low blood pressure, the headaches, the muscle and joint pains, it's not something I'd wish on anyone. Ntm the constant vomiting is terrible for your esophagus and teeth. I really wish more doctors understood how debilitating gastroparesis really is and how grave that kind of risk is😢
this!! i have gastroparesis and am trying so hard to tell people about this, i was born being set up to have it and i cannot stay silent and let people give themselves the condition i have tried to end my life over. I'm being put on a tube because of it and i cant imagine why anyone would give themselves this condition and it made me realise, these people don't know it and it makes me so sad they're unknowingly ruining their lives. i truely feel so sick knowing doctors are not warning people about this and idk how I'm supposed to be okay with people giving themselves this condition..

i love how people miss the fact that as soon as you stop taking ozenpics they are going to gain every single pound back its the same reason why ≥10% of all diets succeed in the long run, obesity is a habit and lifestyle issue, not a weight issue.
7:27 I was younger, about five or so I ate so much white bread I had to go to the E.R. My parents and the doctors originally though my liver was gonna blow up. They then did CAT scan and came to the conclusion that I had eaten a bunch of bread. I stayed at the hospital for a couple more days and got a cool teddy bear out of it.
I totally agree with the ozempic comment. I started it bc it was recommended by my doctor, and I don’t recommend. Puked every day when I got to 2.5mg Wegovy, but I can’t say it didn’t help me. My highest weight was 307lbs and walking was a marathon. Obesity has a lot to do with your emotions and a lot of people think it’s not related, but if you’re depressed and in a very deep state, weight loss seems unattainable. I stopped wegovy 5 months in bc puking and nausea was not for me, and according to my doctor it’s something you keep using and I didn’t want that. So I can say I went down to 265lbs bc of it but it didn’t feel healthy. I got weight loss surgery last October and that’s another pack of worms. Also, don’t recommend. Very hard bc of how fast everything it’s happening. Physically, mentally, and emotionally draining, I couldn’t work for like 4 months bc i was in a crippling depressive episode. So with that being said, just check your mental health and find out what’s making you overeat or if it’s something medical that’s when I would suggest ozempic or wegovy, after you have tried naturally losing (I want to say mult times or for a period of time) by eating healthier and exercising. It was hard being obese but it’s also hard having mental health issues, so this is something very sensitive for your wellbeing so choose wisely.

So, never just hop on a medicine bandwagon. My sister developed gastroparesis from Ozempic. This goes for medicine in general... I was put on a PPI at 13, told to stay on it the rest of my life to deal with my GERD. When I was put on it this medication was new, we didn't know the long term effects. Well, I've developed an absurd amount of health issues due to this medication after being on it 20 years. It can cause: Gastroparesis, motility issues with the intestines, dementia, kidney failure and frequent urination, heart and cardiovascular problems, debilitating gas (literally stops you from living it's so bad), gastric cancer due to hypertrophy of the parietal cells and many many more issues. Over the last 2 weeks I have been weaning off, it's miserable. My heartburn is 10x worse than it ever was because of the dependency. Thankfully my plethora of health issues are clearing up and I am feeling like I can live my life again. I plan on getting a surgery to correct my heartburn permanently very soon.
I've got GERD too, my gastroenterologist warned me not to rely too much on pantoprazole for those reasons, I used to take one every day, I now take one every 3 days, and my goal is to stop taking it altogether (my gastroenterologist advised me to do so from day one), also I take alginate after each meal to protect my esophagus, which has no side effects. The other advice my gastroenterologist gave me are: physical exercise, lose weight, eat more slowly aka chew, reduce foods that are hard to break down in the stomach: which turns out to also reduce the risks of contracting type 2 diabetes. And I found exercises to re-train my lower esophageal sphincter, which is the one that fails for me. All in all, things are improving for me, sure there's the surgery, which I've considered, but there are less invasive solutions you can try beforehand.

Sorry Caleb, in some instances control has nothing to do with weight gain. There are people like me that could eat anything they liked and never gain weight most of their lives, then one day that all changes when they start to have hormonal problems. You often see this with woman going through menopause. Some of us experience this more than others unfortunately. No matter how little and what I eat the weight keeps building mainly around my waste. This weight is also a build up of fluid because my hormones are not there anymore to take care of just eating a healthy diet or even starvation diet. Nothing works and excersize only seems to target areas where the weight isn't. There are many reasons why people gain weight, but some are not a matter of a bad diet or a lack of excersize or an eating disorder. I consider over eating an eating disorder just like the opposite extreme anorexia. I would also like to note that there are medications for other medical conditions that can cause weight gain like this too. Please do a bit more research on this and it will surprise you that not everyone with a bit of weight just lazy and eating wrong.
When it comes to weight loss stuff, they NEED to work on something that helps women with PCOS. PCOS has insulin resistance, it's an imbalance of hormones and can cause a lot of other health issues such as painful periods, increased risk of ovarian cancer, cysts in the ovaries, hair loss on the head while growth in other areas, and extreme difficulty in losing weight. Simple diet and exercise isn't always enough when dealing with this issue. And rarely is the condition even treated properly by doctors.

You get things from society when you’re providing to or taking from society. Taking from society will hurt you and others in the long term but profit you in the short term. A little insight from someone who worked front desk for a doctor's office and specifically took refill requests a lot:
The big thing about the Ozempic craze is that the people who actually needed it (ones with diabetes) couldn't get access to it because people who didn't necessarily need it (for weightloss) had been purchasing so much that there was a shortage.
Literally this is me. I'm diabetic and my doctor suggested I take it. It took me weeks to get one pen and my insurance company has ben a nightmare.
Still a problem, work in pharmacy and never have I wanted to tell folks off more.😊
So Ozempic did actually save my life.

Actually it does! Im severely diabetic and I had to be hospitalized for a prolonged period of time because there was a nationwide shortage of Ozempic and Trulicity! I was very close to death!

I really wish more doctors understood how debilitating gastroparesis really is and how grave that kind of risk is😢
They gave me one of those drugs despite me having a literal history of gastroparesis. Doctors don't care, they just want kickbacks.
this!! i have gastroparesis and am trying so hard to tell people about this, i was born being set up to have it and i cannot stay silent and let people give themselves the condition i have tried to end my life over.

My sister has been taking it for a year now and I just saw her for the first time since and she’s unrecognizable. Her face is all sunken in and she’s aged 10 years. Looks really unhealthy. I’m older than her by 8 years but everyone thought I was the youngest 😔 I don’t know what the long term consequences are but the short term is horrible but hey, she’s not overweight anymore 😣
Funny how is always fat people saying this. "You look ill" "eat a cheeseburger". That my rotund friend, is jealousy.
My family used to visit St. Thomas cause we had a timeshare, although it was destroyed in a hurricane. There’s a beach on the back of the island (the back being the opposite side of the main city), and I remember talking to some locals who said that everyone hates it when Oprah comes to stay at her vacation home down there because her yacht blocks the entire bay, and it’s to the point where no ships can leave the area at all.
She also owns at star island in Lake buenavista FL where my parents also owned. We unfortunately vacationed one yr at the same time & they blocked off like half the resort & kicked anyone out that was in that back wing & moved them regardless if they agreed or not. We were unable 2 enjoy the pool back there, the spa & a bunch of other amenities! Worst experience ever! Depends on on what dose you start out on and how long you’re using it.
Pretty much.
7:27 I was younger, about five or so I ate so much white bread I had to go to the E.R. My parents and the doctors originally though my liver was gonna blow up. My farts are better than Oompaville’s farts 💨
My dad takes ozempic and went from 280 to 200.
He’s dying from pancreatic cancer.

I really hope that all works out for you, you deserve to get your life back.

Right ppl fail to realize there are side effects to new drugs. Nothing is a cure all. Every drug has side effects and we don’t know the long term effects yet. The amount of people that think tracking calories and eating in a deficit doesn't work really hurts my head😂 If you eat less calories than you burn you will lose weight. Watching clips of someone explaining how GLP-1 and Ozempic work in the body and then switching back to Caleb giving a lecture makes me feel like I'm back in high school
Sounds just like my thyroid issue. I can see why it’s improperly treated
