Thanks for watching! I know this game has been out for a while now, but it just got a physical release in Europe. I actually didn't know about this until I was already editing the video together, so I added in a new line of voice over mentioning it...strange but good timing, it's almost like I was destined to talk about Ender Lilies...or just odd coincidence. Anyway, hope you liked the review, and if you decide to pick up the game or have already played it, let me know!
Thank you--a second Tengai Makyou video is something I'm still interested in doing, but unfortunately I won't be able to get any new interviews until at least after February.
Well, sometimes that happens with some of the games I've talked about, but thankfully for Ender Lilies, it had multiple language options from the start (as far as I know). Tengai Makyou ZIRIA was just a happy coincidence, I hope more of the games I've covered on the channel get translations.
I've never seen something worth of the title "hidden gem" like ender Lillies I played it after a year of it's release cuz I wasn't really interesting but after I did it became my favourite metroidvania ever Can't wait for ender magnolia
Can't believe i'd never heard of this until a week ago. Just ordered physical PS4 version for £25. Looking forward to my next metroid-vania as i've just finished Ghost song. Great review. Thanks.
Just finished the game today. Bought it on sale digitally for the Switch. The game gets better as you go. Got all 3 endings. North is my favorite track of this game.
The world can always use more Metroidvania, especially games that look like this! Loving the art style from the parts in this video. And the mysterious dark tone definitely has my attention. I’ll have to get myself a copy soon. Thanks for spreading the word!
ender lilies!! my personal favorite detail is how the spirits perform actions for lily! it's nothing major, but i enjoy it all the same -- i'm a sucker for character analysis (the characters make the story after all), but there's not many scenes in the game where you see first hand how a character acts and reacts outside of battle (and there's only so much you can learn through the findings you get), so having this one thing to work off of for interpretations of the characters' personalities and their relationships with each other make me appreciate the game even more! like -- the way lily hangs off of one of julius' arms while he dashes? as if he's never learned how to handle a child properly? or how umbral knight moves forward slightly when he attacks? while lily stays in the back? that kind of thing?
I'm pretty sure you told me you bought the Japanese version from PlayAsia in a batch of other Switch games. Hope you get around to playing, though I'm afraid there aren't enough anime boobies in this game to satisfy a man of culture such as yourself!
I'll never get tired of watching Ender Lillies reviews just because I had such a good time with it I want this game to reach as many people as possible. I myself am excited for the full release of Ender Magnolia and once a friend of mine finally finishes Hollow Knight I'll probably gift her this one next
I first played the demo version and I was impressed. Glad I manage to finally beat it last year, and it was worth it. Cannot wait for it's sequel this year.
As a massive fan of Metroidvanias, looks like I'm gonna have to give this a try. I'd heard of it but didn't think too much of the visuals. They're pretty of course, but there aren't too many notable games these days I'd consider "ugly". I played "Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night" last year and just thought it was "okay", and found myself disappointed by "Timespinners" and a couple of other Metroidvanias. I'll probably wait for a sale as I'm having bad luck with games as of late (just purchased "Legend of Grimrock" and I'm not enjoying it much). Thank you for the review, friend, and keep being awesome. God bless, and have a wonderful day :)
I've not heard of TImespinners or Legend of Grimrock--I'll look into them, but it's too bad they were disappointing to you. If you pick this one up during one of its numerous sales, I hope it doesn't end up in the same category! Thanks for watching, and God bless to you, too!
@@ImportGamingFTW "Timespinners" is alright, but what brought it WAY down in my eyes was toward the end of the game when it very randomly started talking about transgenderism, bisexuality, and a romance and off-screen sex scene happening between the main character and and NPC. I've never seen anything come so far from left field in a story in my life. I cannot stress how weird the characters and dialog became near the end of the game. As for "Legend of Grimrock", it's not bad, just monotonous, and it's puzzle after puzzle after puzzle, and they're all essentially trial and error. As far as Metroidvanias go, I'm still in love with "Salt and Sanctuary" and "Momodora: Reverie of the Moonlight". I've been finding myself enjoying shorter games as of late, and the latter is a really great game that you can finish in just a sitting or two. "Salt and Sanctuary" is for my money the standard bearer for Metroidvania. "Hollow Knight" interests me but it seems a bit too long for my liking. Other Metroidvanias I'm interested in are "Grimvalor", "Koumajou Remilia 2: Stranger's Requiem", "Swords of Vagrant", "Koumajou Remilia: Scarlet Symphony", "Record of the Lotus War", and "Gal Guardians: Demon Purge". Too many games, too little time lol. Thank you again for the video, and God bless.
If there were difficulty options, I would have totally given this a try. As is, I do not have the skill or patience to play difficult games that are, essentially, souls-likes. But man… that soundtrack! Dig the art style, dark setting, etc.
I actually bought this game after watching another video of yours, but haven't played it yet. This just convince me to play it next. I really love the style, and what you've said about the story has me intrigued.
Happy to hear it--I hope you enjoy it, and hooray for the recently announced sequel! That reminds me, I still need to send out your CD from like a million years ago...small packet air mail has returned, I promise I will get to it very soon.
I'll admit that i bought a physical switch version of this game from Playasia after watching you stream and recommend it awhile back. My issue with this game is that it felt short for me compared to other metroidvanias and remember wanting more after 100% completing this game a couple years back. Still, im currently replaying hollow knight and was leaning towards replaying this one again afterwards. Maybe ill see something different on this playthrough
I'm sorry to hear you didn't quite like it as much as I did--I admit art direction plays a big role on how much I enjoy a game...that or hormone shooting mechanics. I had a line in my script where I say Ender Lilies lacks the depth of a Hollow Knight or Bloodstained, but other areas make up for that...however I left it out of the final video.
This game is just as good as hollow knight , if not even better for some aspects, for example the combat, you got way more variety in ender lilies everyone who liked hollow knight should definetly play it
I dont enjoy too many souls like metroidvanias as i prefer combat to be quick and simple with more of a focus on exploration, but i really did enjoy ender lillies. Jimmy, check out the last faith. It really feels like a 2D bloodborne, from the story, the look, the atmosphere. I had a good time with that one too.
I need to keep an eye out for a Japanese physical copy of Redemption Reapers at a good price. These games have such amazing soundtracks, and that seems to be the only way to even get the OST for Redemption Reapers. (Not sure why they don't just sell it on Steam like they do for Ender Lilies)
Not sure what extra charges and shipping will look like for the proxy bidding services, but Redemption Reapers collector's editions are pretty cheap on Mercari, and I think you can find them for less than retail on Amazon Japan.
@@ImportGamingFTW Yeah, I probably should just find a good proxy service or something. I used to just manage with eBay, but it seems like the price gouging only keeps getting worse for Japanese goods in there. (Honestly, what I need to import the most is a "new" 3DS. You wouldn't believe the prices in the US. It's completely crazy for a system that sold so many units.)
I have to admit it made me curious about the game. Bloodstained RotN was a game I really enjoyed on PS4, so I purchased Hollow Knight on switch but still have to try it out. I did start playing Metroid Dread but somehow didn't really get into it.
@@ImportGamingFTW Yes, I only played a couple of hours and did not get back to it. And I think one of my son's friends erased my progress by mistake :) But I should definitely try and finish it.
probably one of the best Metroidvanias I've had the pleasure of playing, the soundtrack still randomly comes to my mind two years after playing it; the only problem is, this and hollow knight, probably ruined all new metroidvanias I attempt to play since.
Sorry to hear that--was it the mad warrior? I think he's the most difficult boss in the game. I didn't need to grind for levels since I explored everywhere pretty thoroughly before heading to new areas, but I think I did need to rearrange my setup for that fight (skills and relics).

Just like the Tengai Makyou, you talk about it and then sometimes later the full English fan translation being released. 😊

I played this past year too and it totally blew me away! Loved this so much and eager to see what the developer does next.
I'm hoping for a sequel or similar style game...or anything with a Mili composed soundtrack.
