    RV Camping at DeSoto State Park in Fort Payne, Alabama
    Hey folks, here's our video of DeSoto State Park Campground. This very nice Alabama State Park is right at 15 minutes from Fort Payne Alabama, 20 minutes from Little River Canyon National Preserve and a beautiful 15 minute drive to DeSoto Falls.
    We parked our Retro 189r travel trailer in one of the campground's many full hook-up sites for an adventurous weekend and peaceful evenings at the campground.
    At and near this state park campground you can have all sorts of fun with camping, cycling, fishing, canoeing, zip-linning and plenty of hiking, whichever you prefer. There's the beautiful Little River Canyon Falls to wet your feet or put on some hiking boots for excellent hiking trails all around the area. Or you can just sit tight for a leasure drive around the Little River Canyon Parkway for a nice peaceful scenic drive. We even took a nice drive west of Desoto State Park to Cathedral Caverns near Woodville Alabama, about an hour away, for an awesome guided tour of the cool 60 degree caverns. A very welcome and enjoyable adventure on a hot summer's day.
    We camp as much as we can and we record all of our camping adventures while traveling in our Retro 189r.
    We do this for every campground, every site, every time.
    Go ahead and subscribe to the channel so you can see what wonderful campgrounds are out there.
    Happy Trails & Happy Camping

      We do that a lot, drive to a campground just to check it out. There are a lot of things to do in that area too. 😃

    Thanks for the review. We just booked one of the pull through sites. This will be our first real camping trip since buying our camper last October. Desoto SP is less than 2 hours away from our home and it should be a good starter trip.

      Hey Alex, ya'll are gonna really like that campground. We would like to return in fall, we think the canyon would be a nice place to visit for the changing of the leaves. We would like to try the restaurant too, it was closed the day we went there. You're probably just a few hours from Cheaha SP too. Yall have fun!!😃

    Last December we drove from our home in far north Texas to Huntsville, Alabama, to the RV dealer to buy our new Lance truck camper. We had no idea this part of Alabama was so beautiful. What a beautiful park this is! Thanks so much for sharing.

    I use to stay there until they put up the sodium vapor lights that stay on all night. No star gazing here. I bring my scouts up there a couple of times a year. Hiking, swimming, and exploring... We hiked the trail up to Comer Scout Camp. We have brought some of the mom's on some trips. Always fun watching them experience what their son's are doing. Some even did some climbing.

      Hey Alowat.
      The lights weren't too bad for us, even though we were close to one. We would like to go back there for the hiking, not just around the campground but around that area.🙂
      Thanks for taking the time to watch our video.
      Safe travels, Alowat

    I hope the sodium vapor lights staying on all night at the campground didn't keep you up all night. No stargazing there. Use to camp there 8 - 10 times per year, but not anymore. Usually go to Bucks Pocket or Cherokee Rock City. I bring my scouts up there on the way to summer camp to hike in the canyon. Hike down to the river to swim at our secret swimming hole. Spend the day swimming and exploring.

      The lights weren't too bad. We were glad to be able to enjoy the peace and quiet. 🙂
      We drove through Buck's Pocket on the way back from the caverns but haven't heard of Cherokee Rock City, I'll have to look that one up.
      Thanks Solo for watching our video and thanks for the heads up on Cherokee Rock City. On this rainy day I'll search for it on the web.

    We are headed there in October, how long a drive was it?

    • @RetroRVRecon
      @RetroRVRecon  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Thomas
      Coming from the Slidell, Louisiana area its about a 6 hour drive and Hammond is about 7 hours. We always add an hour to the drive time for trips over three hours. (fuel stops/rest stops/lunch)
      When you get to Fort Payne, access Hwy 35 from Hwy 11. If you try to go through the neighborhoods you'll have to turn around. (They *will* stop you)😯
      Thanks Thomas for watching our video!

    Do yinz prefer state parks or RV campsites?

    • @RetroRVRecon
      @RetroRVRecon  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Bob
      That's a good question...
      I'll say that of our experiences, overal, Army Corps of Engineers campgrounds and State Park campgrounds are our favorite. We find they are setup for the kind of camping we enjoy most (peaceful/spacous/clean). However, we also enjoy the resort campgrounds (RV Parks) near tourist areas like Gulfshores. When we stay near tourist areas we really don't plan to sit around a campground too much, we're going to get out to explore the area.
      I will say, we do a lot of research before we reserve a campground no matter where we are going. We have had a few BAD campgrounds in the past so we find planning our trips several months in advance the key to get the most out of our trips. Which is one of the main reasons we started this channel, we try to let you know what campgrounds are like so you can make the most of your weekends too.😁😃
      I hope that answers your question, if not let me know and I'll add to it.
      Thanks Bob for watching.
