    Great to hear you're "making" another series. And your humour, whit and knowledge makes a perfect combination for light hearted viewing and some deeply informative and passionate content! My seal of approval is granted! :)

    Excellent job as always! That 3D printed bracket for the AV socket is very clever. I have to admit I'm not a fan of drilling holes in these things either (my own 2600 uses a trailing cable) but that's what the big man wanted so who am I to argue 🤣
    Those jailbars are interesting... Have you tried a different power supply? I've found that some of the super cheap ebay jobs can introduce interference like this. I actually tend to get the best results from the original 40-odd year old Atari unit.

      Thank you Rees! And thanks for being a good sport 😁
      The jailbars are not so bad in real life, the camera picks up blue really well on this screen.
      I tested with an old speccy psu and it was the same. I've got some more things to investigate on this one, I'll update in the other episodes.

      if they are switching it could be some frequency used, I wonder if a filter cap could remove them on the 5v line.

      Tried with a linear PSU and it was the same. When I get time I will try some of the other suggestions you mentioned on twitter.

    Nice idea for the 3.5mm Stereo jack mount. But I wouldn't remove the RF modulator.

    • @MoreFunMakingIt
      @MoreFunMakingIt  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you! I have another one I intend to keep as an original for use with RF capable TV's.

    • @intel386DX

      @@MoreFunMakingIt why not try just to add this composite mod (the transistor and 2 reaiatoes) without removing any components? So you can use both RF and AV. For example when I mode Atari 2600 junior I always keep RF and just add the MOD, but it is a little more complicated then this , with 5 resistors one capacitor soldered to the buffer ic (CD4050) without any transiatos or remove anything from the board .I use it because the picture quality is fantastic! I can show you the scheme if you wish . This mod can be apply to the 6 switches as well , because it have this chip too , but not 4 switches , becouse it doesn't have this buffer IC at all.

      @@intel386DX I didn't know you could keep both! I have a junior here to work on. If I can save it I'll do that. Thank you!

      It's all recorded. Also part 3 😁
      Just waiting to be chopped up in editing. I'll record my usual waffle all over it and should be out fairly soon!
      Part 2 is more of a fix, the kind of thing you would normally expect.
      Part 3 is not normal in any way! A complete horror show. I won't spoil it though 😜

    How did I miss this series? Great video congratulations. Looking forward to the other parts. I did this mod on a 2600 and found the picture quality/interference improved a lot using an analogue PSU rather than a modern switching PSU. Think it was from an Atari Lynx.

    • @MoreFunMakingIt
      @MoreFunMakingIt  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you Paul! There's a lot of noise on YT, can be tricky finding things you want to watch even with an exact search term. Very easy to get buried under clickbait content. I switched over from a switching psu to a linear (an old Sinclair psu) and I think it helped a bit? What really helped was shielding the cable from the mod to the socket at the back.

    i love my ataris i have, i have 2 2600's (one which is outta commission and a heavy sixer that still works), also got a 7800, also 2 of those atari flashbacks, my favorite console ever, in 2nd place will be the NES because i grew into speedrunning the games i grew up to, but i wanna fix that broken 2600 eventually, just need to find the right parts to fix it with, not just that but i wanna make sure the board turns on, if so ill composite mod it, just needs a new outer shell since the one i have broke a bit, could glue it if needed but i want to make sure it works first, if so, just gonna composite it :)

      It's a lovely machine. I love the design.
      I have 2 more videos on the 2600 coming when I stop catching plagues. They are much more damaged than this first one and were a lot of fun to fix.

    Can you repair an Atari C-380 pinball console?

    • @MoreFunMakingIt
      @MoreFunMakingIt  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Depends what's wrong with it 🤔 If there are IC's in there that are dead or might not be possible to replace them. The C380 was quite different to all the other pong clones around at that time.

      @@MoreFunMakingIt I’ll open it up this week and take a few pictures. Would be great if you could have a look and point me in the right direction. I bought it yesterday at a flea market for $10USD. Right off the bat one of the back ports have sunk inside the unit, the power button doesn’t click when you press it and cosmetic wise the video pinball label in the front is missing. I havent tried to turn it on yet since I don’t have batterys or the power adapter yet. When you shake it you can hear something rattle inside. Probably the back port I’m talking about.

      I'll do my best. Best place to show the pictures would be twitter or discord. The biggest hurdle you'll find is getting a picture on a modern TV.
