    The Dream Journey sessions #farsi
The Dream Journey - Discovering musicians across Pakistan (A Non Profit Project)
This project will be the sharing of a special experience in which we hope you will want to participate.
Some of the musicians are established and famous, others are among the brilliant budding talent that adorns Pakistan’s musical scene. Each of the mehfils has a distinct atmosphere and mood, but there is a common thread. We asked each of the musicians to stay close to their respective inherited musical traditions, allowing the singers an opportunity to present some pieces that are rarely heard today.
We are inspired to present the brilliance of this contemporary Pakistani vocal music to a wider audience and seek your financial assistance in making this possible.

Just the claps and tabla are better than dozens of instruments, in my view. Not that Coke Studio's version isn't worth listening, but there is something in the simplicity of the verses, tabla, and claps.

This music puts one into an immediate haal of joyous longing for the Beloved. As an Egyptian, I cannot understand the words but their spirits reach me nonetheless and they are beautiful. I was moved to write this poem of praise for this great Qawwal, may Allah ta’ala bless him and his family with what He blesses His awliya.
Listen to the lover, the unique, Ayyaz /
Of what he attained from the grace of the Beloved and won /
The hearts quiver from the beauty of his praising /
And spirits are in ecstasy, their drunkenness allowed.

Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan and party were the best Qawwals of their time. What has all the legendary greatness reduced to? It has reduced to Rahat Fateh Ali Khan singing Bollywood songs. Believe me it's the saddest truth in today's world. Look how proudly the clan of Ustaad Munshi Raziuddin Sahab displays the art that still has the same quality of music. To me, Delhi Gharana is the last living part of this amazing 700 year old legacy started by Hazrat Amir Khusro.

Ruh is of divine nature where as Adam's body was made of clay, water etc so it was a tall order asking a spiritual entity as pure as Adam's Ruh to enter Adam's body. The Ruh refused to enter but it entered only after its being intoxicated by the beauty of David's musical voice as imitated by angels. Whole humanity is children of Adam. That's why irrespective of religion people are moved when they listen to music. Adam's Ruh had to enter his body for the story of mankind to unfold and his coming to Earth with Eve. Adam was unborn since he was the first man created by God

It's not a story but artistic symbolism. When the soul was asked to enter Adam's body, it refused thinking what a waste that would be. But then the sur were narrated to the soul in the divine melody of David's (Dawood) voice. Seeing the potential for such beauty in human body the soul entered the body. In other words Hazrat Ameer Khusro is implying the potential to create divine music as one of the incentives for creation. Only a Sufi of such calibre can come up with such profound concepts.

I am amazed by the group's excellent temporal coordination from 3:52 onwards. You can see how when one member completes a beat, next one picks up exactly from there without any gap in between. No doubt that this level of synchronization needs years of effort and team work!

    • @TheDreamJourney
      @TheDreamJourney  7 ปีที่แล้ว +10

Indeed! While the first part was something that hasn't been sung in public in 60 years, the second part from 3:52 onward is something that is often used to beautify other poems and to touch the soul of listeners.

Fareed Ayaz ji explaining the meaning of the qalam, with a picture of his father Munshi Raziuddin on the wall is so fitting. An academic understanding of the song in addition/in order to perform it is the most apt way of doing music. We would love to see The Dream Journey doing such pieces in India too! Really brilliant initiative!

The Tabla (Typical Sufiyana /Qawaali Ghar Styled Baaya -without the black ink ) completes this beautiful qalaam, the absence of the such prominent and strong tabla ( especially on the sum beats) from the coke studio version - makes the music expressions in this version unparalleled.
