    Brilliant video as always! Very clean design. Really clever idea to use the pillar drill like a lathe for finishing the buttons. Thanks Barry! This is my first attempt at a speaker of this type. So its a bit of a learning experience. Living in South Africa, parts takes a long time to arrive from abroad as there is not much available locally, so advice to the right quality parts will be a welcome time saver. I'll drop you a message when I am ready to attempt a MK2 of this build.

    from what i see is that you put two 9900mah Li-ion Rechargeable Batteries into that battery pack and the micro-usb built in is the way to charge the speaker. However where did you solder the two wires? it's hard to see but it looks like the connections between the battery and the usb port. also which wire is positive and which wire is negative?

    • @schwuzi
      @schwuzi 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      JS-Obsidian He soldered them to the negative and positive terminal of the USB port, supplying 5V. This is where you would normally plug in your USB-cable for i.e charging your device.
      Of the 4 contacts on the USB-port, the outer two are positive and negative, depending on the orientation. You could get away with plugging in a regular USB-cable, cutting off whatever connector is on the other side, and connecting positive (red) and negative (black) to the power input of the bluetooth amplifier.

    Great design idea. The only thing that bothers me is that once the BT amplifier has a problem you have to wreck the build to be able to repair it. Less glue and a few more screws would have been a better choice imho.

    Hi, how satisfied are you with the amp board? I've been looking around buying all kinds and don't like most of em. does this pam8403 based board have an annoying hiss? And when starting it up a pairing sound (or a chinese woman telling you its on -- sound)?

    • @SoundBlab
      @SoundBlab  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No Chinese woman on this one, just some beeps. You can only hear hiss when holding it up right to your ear. Other than that it is dead quiet under normal listening. It is a decent board, although it only outputs 3watts x 2, which is rather low.

    • @SoundBlab

      The 10w drivers are much better quality than the lower wattage and it avoids any potential distortion at higher volumes.

      Not 100% certain, but I can listen to this on and off during the day without charging. It's definitely long enough for a day of normal use. It is only 6watts in total, enough to fill a small room or for personal listening on a desk.

  • @MCsCreations
    @MCsCreations 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    • @SoundBlab

      This was my first small bluetooth speaker build and very experimental, but it came out better than expected and I still use this everyday. That's the fun part of it. Definitely going to make a MK2 with improvements, but with a more powerful amp board and also a self made battery pack.

    • @MCsCreations
      @MCsCreations 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      SoundBlab Great, man! A tip: use TP4056 for recharge the pack (since all cells are in parallel) and two step ups, one for the board (12v, right?) and one with USB female port. With independent switches, of course. How much time it will take to recharge be needed depends only from the number of batteries (and it's capacities (2200 mAh +/- for 18650 cells) and the power consumption. ;)

    • @SoundBlab
      @SoundBlab  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, thats definitely an option. Have not quite decided on the exact setup I'm gonna use though.

    Also what are the dimensions for that battery pack? I can't find it anywhere

    • @schwuzi
      @schwuzi 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      JS-Obsidian Given these are 18650 lithium-ion cells, they are 18mm in diameter and 65mm in height, so the battery pack would be about 4cm wide and 7,5cm tall.
      Also, the used cells are probably some cheap chinese ones claiming to be such high capacity. Generally speaking, i would be very suspicious of 18650 cells claiming to have any capacity over 3000mAh.
      You can look up some videos on youtube of people testing the real capacities of the chinese cells. You can find yourself lucky if they reach just 900mAh of the claimed 9000.

    Love your build videos, please keep them up, one question though, how do you plan / are so successful using passive radiators with your designs?

    • @SoundBlab
      @SoundBlab  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This was my first try at passives. These units had no specs so it took a bit of trial and error. But you can usually work within the specs of the driver and design for a ported enclosure and then use passives that are similar in size in area to the opening of the port. General rule of thumb is that the passives should be slightly larger than the drivers you pair them with.

    • @Neurocidal
      @Neurocidal 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      SoundBlab appreciate the info! I've toyed with winisd, still learning more into the fine details though, didn't know about the port size to passive correlation though, good info thank you.

      Thanks. This build was very much experimental with parts that I had no idea how they will perform. I will most likely produce build plans of a similar and improved build soon.

    in your feeling does it sound like cheap ass speaker or something more? Would u compare to other bt speakers on the market?

    • @SoundBlab
      @SoundBlab  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Right now I don't have anything similar in my possession to compare it to, but to my ears they sound decent with the obvious limitations of bass response for a speaker this size. I will have to get something to compare them to though to give you a better answer.

    Why not the speaker are separate? Now there is one volume for both speaker, is this a good idea? Sorry for my english hope you understand what i mean.

    • @luisraygoza1210
      @luisraygoza1210 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Just a matter of preference, some people make a separation and individual chambers for each speaker some don't

      Yeah it really doesn't matter acoustically as long as the speakers are the same all you are doing is reducing internal volume by putting a wall in between.

    the best that i ever seen before! all that i want to know is... what kind of battery u r using and the connector!

    • @SoundBlab
      @SoundBlab  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks. The batteries are 18360 lithium ion types. The batteries are in a power pack that handles the charging. I take the power from the USB port. Links to all the parts are in the description.

      SoundBlab you think that i be able to use lipo batteries 7.4v?

    • @SoundBlab
      @SoundBlab  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The amp I used in this build requires 5Volts. You will have to step down the voltage with a buck converter.

    Awesome speaker! Buildplans pls :) onlie thing i have to say, those cells/batteries you are using are 100% fake and cheap china product. There is no way they can put 9900mah into a 18650 sized batterie.
    id like to see something similar in maybe 4 times the size, still compact but with amazing sound for maybe a small party.
    My Creative soundblaster roar can go veeery loud and is able to fill a whole room with like 20 people in there with music, so you can do that to ^^
    Maybe the next bulild you do with 2.1 so you have L R and a Subwoofer in a compact build? There is a BT controller that runs with 12v (so you need to put 4 of those 18650 batteries in series) and can handle over 100watt, if you want i can send you some links if you are intrested :D

    • @SoundBlab
      @SoundBlab  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, the batteries are cheap China versions. I'm sure the claim of 9900mah is false, but so far they have been holding up well on a charge.
      I am planning a 2.1 portable bluetooth build for the future. What controller do you have in mind?

    • @KidCe.
      @KidCe. 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      +SoundBlab As a Bluetooth amp i guess the Best are the tpa 3116. there are some with a 2.1 crossfader to Controller which freq goes to the subwoofer and which to the high-mid-speakers. www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B01IH5THTY/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1476634023&sr=8-1&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_FMwebp_QL65&keywords=tpa+3116+bluetooth

    • @SoundBlab
      @SoundBlab  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, the sound quality of these are not bad at all for the intended use. However, the one you mention has a rated working voltage of 18-24V DC. We need 12V to run off a battery without complicating things. This one does, but I have tested it and don't like the controls, they make no sense when trying to control the crossover FQ: www.amazon.com/dp/B016ZQ0HK0/ref=psdc_537344_t3_B01IH5THTY, and I have noticed a hiss at lower volumes. I have sourced a small TPA3123 20Wx2 + 50Wx1 amp without bluetooth on-board, but can pair it with a bluetooth board to make up the complete bluetooth amp. Have not tested it, but intend to use it in a build soon. Lets hope for the best!

      SoundBlab jeah, there are many of those tpa3116 controllers out there.... i just searched for one and sent it here. I guess there are many other with better quality and and better controlls. im looking to get something that can controll even a 40mm subwoofer so i can use it at home with my 5.1 speakers ( with passive subwoofer which does not need external power ) and then i dont need to plug in that huge AV-Reciever and all that stuff....

      since you two have alot more knowledge about these products, can any of you advise me on a small amp board with bluetooth, preferably 2.1, but also has a 3.5mm audio in jack?
