Try "Slow Down" - skill level off the chart. Also "Going Home". " Summertime" and" Shenandoah" are phenomenal as well.

Who is this? Only the loveliest smile in music. A remarkable singer who is not a diva nor a music snob, but sings to share her love of song... any song she likes. Her voice is the vocalise on Cameron's Titanic movie, so you've probably heard her. She could have been much more famous than less talented singers but she knows what's really important in life: Family, home, friends. This Pie Jesu is from Faure's Requiem so not from opera. (You have some catching up to do where Siss is concerned.)

Did you know that Sissel is also singing the overturepart in the movie Titanic? You should also listen to Sissel singing Shenandoah, and Prince Igor with Warren G. It will leave you speechless.

This isn't opera, actually. It was written by Andrew Lloyd Webber, who wrote so many famous musicals. This is a more classical piece by him, though, it's from his Requiem Mass. And you don't have to apologize for not usually listening to opera. I have spent years playing in opera orchestras, and I don't like most opera, either. But there are specific songs scattered throughout them all that I love. If you like this Pie Jesu, then I'm sure you will run across some opera you enjoy listening to sooner or later.

It always surprises me when I hear reactors call a good soprano voice opera. I call it opera if there is a constant warbly vibrato in the singing, which I hate.

Now you know WHY I've been listening to her for over 30 years... Not only does she have tremendous range and vibrato its the tone of her voice as well. And btw she sings in 15 languages. This performance was quite awhile ago as she's currently 53yo.

Sissel (Shur-shay-bo) is the greatest cross-over mezzo soprano of a generation. She sings Pop, Jazz, Opera, Folk, Gospel... Any genre with beauty. I request more of her. Any song...
Also, I request a group you may not have heard of: Celtic Woman - You Raise Me Up th-cam.com/video/Yfwlj0gba_k/w-d-xo.html

She also did the background voice to soundtrack of “Titanic”, she’s not singing words. Pull up that soundtrack and listen to the piece titled “ Rose”.... not many voices could perform that piece of music.
You were spot on that her performance is effortless, incredible that she started in choirs at 9 years of age & by 17 sang solo. She’s so humble and really has no interest in being a star. She’s performed many times with the Tabernacle Choir. Enjoy discovering her !! 🙏🏻❤️

    • @tubbs1dm
      @tubbs1dm ปีที่แล้ว

I agree, except for the effortless part. It may appear effortless, but truly that is her magnificent self-control. She is a perfectionist and manages to perfectly control, her voice, breathing and body. She may not move around flamboyantly as others do, but she concentrates exquisitely on every note. Her eyes are focused on what is happening around her. She always knows where the cameras are and she looks right into them. This makes us feel that she is looking and singing directly to us. Such a wonderful performer. Thank you again, for sharing.

This piece, written by the inimitable Andrew Lloyd Webber, is a requiem.
    Pie Jesu ........Merciful Jesus
Qui tollis peccata mundi ......He who takes away the sins of the world
Dona a eis requiem .......Grant (give) them peace (rest)
    Agnus dei .......Lamb of God
Very simple, very traditional. The style and the funerary invocations harken back some 900 years.
Now, if you'd like some brilliant Broadway by an artist you probably haven't heard of, singing a selection that is equally mysterious.......
    Linda Eder singing "Gold".
There's a video of a live 2012 performance that (imho), actually exceeds the studio recording (which was made almost a decade earlier), because as an older woman, she can more fully emote the lyrics.

Sissel is an amazing singer from Bergen in Norway, she’s not an opera singer ❤️
You should check out her performance of:
Solveig’s sang (song) live in front of the King and Queen of Norway in 1991, she’s only 22 years old and sings with no effort at all.
Could you please react to another amazing artist from Bergen/Drange in Norway, Aurora 🙏😍
“Runaway” live at the Nobel peace prize concert 2015
She wrote this song when she was 11 years old, and at that age she didn’t quite understand the meaning of the song, but as she grew older she knew that home meant home to her parents 💕
    ❤️
