He was better than most people but he was definitely wrong about a lot. Especially when it came to race politics. He was better than the average tribalistic douche but he wasn't THAT much better.
I love listening to those great stories and rants from Patrice and Anthony and Jimmy. Everyone's laughing and busting balls then Opie's contributions are reading other people's jokes from the Instant Feedback. Its like he specializes in throwing cold water onto a great conversation. I'm not shocked he's no longer in radio. He burned every relationship and noone likes him. Good Riddance.
This is gonna sound like a weird comparison but he reminds me of Lady Di. There are times when I have flashes of feeling bad for both of them, and then they talk for any period of time and I think “oh yeah, they got everything they deserved.” Opie’s not a homeless alcoholic like Di was but his selfish ignorance is similar and just like Lady Di cluelessly leaching off Bill for years, Opie never realized the only reason he wasn’t Brother Weeze’s sidekick in Rochester is because Jimmy & Ant are hilarious and Jimmy had so many friends in the comedy world who came in and made the show incredible and brought it to a whole new level. The few post-split rants of his I’ve watched of his are borderline delirious, and the fact that everyone he’s ever worked with hates his guts tells you everything you need to know.

If only Ant and Patrice could have left and done their own show with Jim, and leave Opie out. If Patrice was alive today, he would be one of the top performers around. Opie is actually a hole himself.

About the hit your kids debate. Yes it is human nature to be selfish and manipulative and children exhibit that behavior innately. Yes beating them will suppress that behavior but finding a way to make them understand why that was bad will follow them through life and help them be a better person
