    I dont get how Brembo justifies charging 10k+ for these exact same brakes. Hopefully AliExpress is the future in terms of tuning, because having fun with cars shouldnt lead to bankruptcy.

      It’s the reality of big business. Brembo have shareholders, executives, managers, development staff, testers, sales people and so. Then they get sold through a chain of 3-4 other smaller business all of which need to make money from the kit. Every person in the chain that makes money gets taxed. Where these were made by John in his factory. Larry picked them up from the factory and sent them to me. John and Larry don’t make much money for their trouble.

    • @Fix_It_Again_Tony
      @Fix_It_Again_Tony 4 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Don't forget cost of development. It takes a team of engineers and many, many hours of work designing and testing to develop one of these kits. Those costs get rolled into the price of the product. And Brembo has the reputation to be able to charge more. The brakes cost as much as they feel the market will pay for them.
      Another cost rolled in is certifications. I don't know about the costs for DOT/TÜV, but even general UL approval for electronics is expensive. Brembo is paying these costs, whoever is ripping off the Brembo kit is not.
      In the best case these China brakes rolled off the same manufacturing lines as the Brembos, but the seller doesn't have any of the overhead costs because Brembo have done all the development. In the worst case, they are copies made with inferior quality that don't met the original engineering specs of the Brembos.
      Keep in mind China is pretty much the wild west of intellectual property laws. Make no mistake, what is being done here is STEALING. Someone is stealing the IP from Brembo and reselling it at a far lower cost. Brembo can't do anything about it because China is a sovereign country with its own laws and their government will do pretty much anything to ensure their economic output stays high. There is the World Trade Organization, but enforcement is left up to the discretion of the sovereign government of each country.

      @J B It's definitely a tough moral dilemma. ajm8127, is correct even if these didn't say Brembo someone has stolen the design and replicated as closely as they can. I don't personally believe it will be made of the same metal as the genuine product. Which ultimately means it could fail sooner, its also more likely to have a porous casting if they are not cast to the same quality as a Brembo. But i am comfortable buying it knowing its not a Brembo product and not as good as the a Brembo product. I don't like the people that sell these as Brembos. That rips off Brembo and the consumer. On the same note, who actually invented the brake calliper?

    • @Fix_It_Again_Tony
      @Fix_It_Again_Tony 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @J B The Samsung and Apple comparison is not apt. I am not saying Brembo pioneered the idea of hydraulically actuating a fixed caliper to press two brake pads against a rotating disc mechanically coupled to the tires and they alone are the only company that should be able to produce that design. Just like Tesla didn't come up with the idea for an electric car. They designed the individual components for their car which if another company copied and used in their EV, Tesla could sue them (at least in the US or Europe - China copies whole cars all the time, see my previous comment about sovereignty and enforcement).
      What I am saying is Brembo spent a LOT of money engineering and testing and certifying a specific design of fixed caliper disc brakes for a specific application and someone copied the design and is using the Brembo name to market their product without consent from Brembo. When you design a product like this you don't say "brake tech is old, lets just through some old parts together and send it out the door." While they may not make calipers for each applications, they are still designing and fitting and testing and certifying each application. Though the calipers themselves did need to be designed at some point and I am sure that was an extensive design effort.
      Samsung isn't using Apple components in their Galaxy line of smart phones. Those designs are completely different. Another example is Ford and Toyota both make trucks, but they are not the same. Just because they have a front mounted engines, four wheel drive and a bed doesn't mean they are the same design. Audi and BMW both have a line of luxury AWD sports sedans, but they aren't the same. It's the details that count and Brembo went through the trouble of figuring them out while another company said "thank you very much that looks good we will take this and sell it as our own undercutting all the time and effort and money put into the originals".
      To be clear, I am not down on Zero to 60 because he bought these brakes. I am not even claiming I would pay the price Brembo charges for their products. I would not. I am just pointing out that product forgeries are not the future of automotive aftermarket parts because eventually there will be nothing new, only copies of copies of copies...

    • @Fix_It_Again_Tony
      @Fix_It_Again_Tony 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @J B We can agree to disagree here.
      Don't confuse form factor with design. Many smart phone use the same form factor. That would be like accusing Stoptech of copying Brembo.
      The iPhone was introduced in January in 2007. In December of 2006 LG introduced the Prada. The Prada was the first phone with a large capacitive touch screen. In fact, it was LG that accused Apple of stealing the design. LG actually won an award for their design before the iPhone was even released. Obviously the first iPhone was more successful because no one remembers the Prada which mostly comes down to LG's terrible software, but just because you have two devices that look the same (laptops, for instance, they all pretty much look the same) doesn't mean that any theft of IP occurred.
      None of this relates to these brakes. No one accused Samsung or LG or Apple of copying each component of the competitor's smartphone and them building the exact same thing without license from the IP owner, which is what occurred with these brakes. The smartphones are all of different designs with the form factor being determined by the market. Each company put in the design, testing and certification work for their devices independently. The comparison between these brake and smart phones is not apt.

      Ahh man, you have to remember when buying parts, something like this can always happen. I could have bought the genuine kit for 6 times the price and someone could have picked up the wrong bracket if they weren't paying attention. Definitely no point getting worked up about it, even being polite with the company that made the mistake will often get you more than being mad with them. I am at the point, where no matter what i am fitting i expect issues, and anything better than that is a bonus. Dont get me wrong, i'm frustrated, but still very stoked to be lucky enough to be playing with stuff anyway. Dave will be flattered about the tri spoke comment. Haha, i have told a few of the OG subscribers. But i'm not making it public. Not only are they still un tested, they don't fit. Typical really. One thing i have learnt over the last 24 hours. None of the ali express sellers have current fitment data for the 335's.

    Hi there! nice brake video guys!! I was wondering why my 135i (mpackage) doesn't have the same caliper than ur 335i. My front one is a 6 piston caliper from factory that look similar to your brembo edition. Does someone have any idea why?

    • @ZeroTo60Tube
      @ZeroTo60Tube  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The 135i was fitted with smaller wheel options than the 335i so they actually run smaller brakes or more compact brakes anyway.

      @@ZeroTo60Tube Thanks for the info. I didn't know that the 135i had smaller brake than 335. At least, she came at the front with a 6 piston brembo from factory. They are painted grey with the BMW logo on it. Because of you I did have to put the 17T on my mod list, your are such a bad influence for my wallet ;)

    I know I'm jumping the gun in the timeline here...but what about the brake pad sensors? And I'm ready and waiting on the bleeding. Lol I did a caliper job on mine and accidentally got air into the ABS unit...it was a fucking nightmare ...my dashboard was lit up like a Xmas tree.

    • @ZeroTo60Tube
      @ZeroTo60Tube  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The pads have a slot for the sensors in the front but i haven't tried them yet. Also i am expecting the same issue with the ABS. Most of the brake fluid has lest the system. However i will be able to bleed it with ista.

    You would have shaved off 5 lbs on each rotor if you had bought Rotora BBK. And that's against the old stock rotors, and also against the ECS tuning semi floating two piece rotors you save 3 lbs.

    You might find those longer rear brake lines will allow you to bypass the shitty intermediate metal pipe the E90 has. It's absolutely infuriating to work with ... I recently did braided lines on my E90 and would have much preferred 2 lines instead of 4. I can't see any point in the intermediates!

    The biggest problem i see you having trouble getting new Pads you can't just get them from your local auto parts store or online 🤔 if th they are the same as actual brembo pad design.

    • @Spooly_
      @Spooly_ 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      They look like clones of the actual brembo casting, so you could most likely use legitimate brembo pads. Anyway, they sell friction surfaces and pads too.

    • @ZeroTo60Tube
      @ZeroTo60Tube  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      They should take genuine gt6 and gt4 pads. From what’s I’ve read anyway

  • @bencastleman7982
    @bencastleman7982 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    From my research these are potentially legitimate calipers and according to brembo themselves they refer to this kit as Semi-fake.
    www.brembo.com/en/company/news/brembo-brakes-guide-to-recognizing-fakes
    “A semi-fake is a Brembo braking system where some original components (usually the brake caliper) are packaged together and sold with other non-Brembo components. Brembo has always been opposed to such practices, in the firm belief that the performance of a braking system is determined not just by the quality but also by the perfect integration of each of its components”
    As you can see they are aware of such companies utilising authentic calipers with non brembo parts to compete the kit.
    I do believe that the calipers Andrew has are in fact real. If you have watched his other videos on this kit he states were there is the brembo logo and wording, and even in this video it has brembo in the seals...
    would love to hear other people’s thoughts on this.

      They are on Ali express, but you need to know exactly what you need, you can’t rely on them providing a kit that fits. Cos it won’t. Expect to have to remake brackets and supply your own bolts, bleed nipples rotors etc. there is a reason I don’t recommend these
