The tomato plant is wonderfully resilient when it comes to "leginess". I've made the same mistake as you when I failed to put the new seedlings under lights. Same solution! Just pot them up deeper. But I've also started my seedlings far too early and had to wait before I transplanted them into my garden, and the plants got too tall. No problem, I simply transplanted them much deeper than usual ... and I remember when I transplanted large, overgrown seedlings laterally in my garden, bending the growing tip slightly vertical. Those little hairs develop roots all along the buried stalk.
We started our tomatoes Thursday. Checking this morning we had one already popping. Although not technically a tomato we were quite surprised and a tomatillo already showing the green. Yesterday we planted our peppers. Pretty much along the same line as you. Exception being that we planted 72 XXX Lumbre chile (yes that is how you spell it Texans) plants. Simple enough and one figuring out what the XXX might "signify". Lumbre is spanish for fire and a super delicious extra hot chile that we love! We have used the same method in the past and leggy plants. More often than not it is a success!
I used the 162 cell prop tech tray for tomatoes and peppers and a few zucchini and man that tray is a game changer! The roots form so well in there and they pull right out with no issues.
I'm not big on hot peppers, but this year I'm growing some mildly hot, just warm, ones, Cubanelle and Anaheim. I've started some pimento and the sweet Lesya.
Travis, you need a Widger..... It's a small tool designed for what you were doing with the knife. A lot of the ones on Amazon are too big and almost just a Hori-hori, but a true Widger is small for dividing small seedlings.
That's what I found out worked for me. I'm going to just plant them shallow in a bigger container. Then just keep filling it with mix to support the skinny stems. You're going to plant toms deeper or on your side anyway. Thank you for sharing, as always.
All I can say, Is Good Luck with the production on those Leggy Tomato Plants. I've always been told to just start all over, but I've never done that myself but couldn't tell much difference in em except the production was later.
My peppers are purple ghost, chocolate scorpion ghost, & 7 different cayennes. First year to plant from seed & they are temperamental. 😂 4 different bells, 10 tomatoes & companion flowers. 🌺 Brassicas, corn, okra, beans. A lot of varieties I’ve gotten from your recommendations. Thank you.
Orange and Blue seed trays were a good choice! Now if you had an orange bucket, the garden would grow so much better. Good to see you proud of your team! Take care...
I only multi sow my tomatoes and peppers now, and pot up them. It does take a little more time when growing transplants, but it solves the leggy problem.
I'm going to start my peppers under lamps and on a heat pad this Saturday. Here's my batting order; Jalapeno - Dante variety, a very large pepper; Mariachi - about the heat of a Banana Pepper, a plant that produces a ton of fruit that is yellow, orange, and red on each plant; Bell Peppers - Fat & Sassy variety, huge fruit with sometimes 8 or 9 peppers per bush. I'll throw in some Banana and Cayenne peppers just for fun. They will hit the ground in mid May up here in Zone 4a, eh!
My best producer for peppers and great tasting to me is Sweet Sunset Banana peppers. My short zone 3 summer needs fast peppers and I get 3 harvests off these ones, helps fill the freezer for long winters.
Last year I saw running squash seeds advertised. I grew some regular squash seed, straight neck, in a tomato cage that kept producing squash all the way up, same as pictures I saw. try one in a cage. Just keep the leaves tucked in as it grows.
We got up to 85 today here in East Texas. Lows aren’t going lower than upper 40’s for the next couple weeks. We will see though! I’m thinking it’s almost bean planting weather! 👍🏻I planted them March 1st last year and had no problems so I’m pretty sure we’re gtg. So excited to get planting! I love direct seeding and lots of plants are able to be planted after my last frost date of March 6th. Hopefully I’m not jumping the gun too much. ☺️I’m so excited for spring this year!!!
Like those Gator colors Travis 😊. I sure want to see your onions and see if mine are keeping pace with yours. My second favorite team is the Dawgs, although this past football season I didn't watch any games. I've been so disappointed in the Gators for the past few years I pretty much lost interest in the games. Most folks at my church are Bama fans, but I love them anyway.
I really enjoy a good poblano pepper I think you will too. They are way more prolific then a sweet bell pepper and if you can handle a mild amount of heat they are so worth it. I can just toss them fresh into any dish I cook. When you get to many just make crushed poblano peppers (Ancho) and you can uses it as a spice with great smokey-fruity flavor takes any dish to the next level. Good for beef-bean-chili but also soups and pastas. Its one of the best balances between great pepper flavor and not too hot so you can enjoy it. However, Habaneros will always be my favorite in terms of flavor, just wish they would just chill out a bit on the Scovilles.
We love to stuff our poblano much like most people stuff their bell peppers. Then we also love love when they turn red and become ancho as so many possibilities in ones cuisine using ancho!
Now that you have some good Gator gear in the greenhouse your seeds will be really happy. Some good peppers to consider : Jimmy Nardello, Giant Marconi, Goddess banana, Utri and Cherry Bomb.
HELP. What does it mean when your seed starts come up thin and weak looking? Some aren't loosing their seed coat and some just look terrible. I've never had this problem before. They're inside on heat mats, watering when needed. No humidity dome. I don't know what to do, any ideas as to what is happening? Thanks 😊
What do you do about those terrible caterpillars/worms that tear up zucchini and any other cucurbit in the garden? I have been having infestations that I cannot get under control for the past 2 years.
You may want to store that dawg bucket away from the greenhouse. You may go out one morning and find out that dawg bucket ate those two boot strap lizard trays.
👋🏽 I’m one of the folks in Gainesville lovin’ the color choice of the new trays! 😂🤣 🐊❤️

HAHAHA! I love your comment about 'Gator stink' (I'm a Tennessee girl!)
Great color choice on the Bootstrap Farmer trays, certainly better than red and black. GO GATORS, good video.
I've never seen more beautiful colors on your farm before 😂 here's hoping you threw the ball in the right direction of luck for us this year 🤞🤞😝😝
I grow cubanelle, Jalapeno and bell peppers every year.
Grew the Baron Poblano last year. Was not disappointed.

Oh I need to see this! Legginess is my bane.
Ugh those Gator colors.
I will be growing the Marconi peppers and banana peppers this year.
I'm not big on hot peppers, but this year I'm growing some mildly hot, just warm, ones, Cubanelle and Anaheim. I've started some pimento and the sweet Lesya.
Yes. We do love our orange and blue.
Exactly what I needed for the leggy plant issue. Thanks so much. Gonna grow me some more sugar rush peach and some white scorpion peppers.
I'm adding a pepper called Habanada. Flavor of the Habanero but without the heat. Wanted it for a great color addition to our salsa.

My Red Snapper & Roadster tomatoes are germinating. Will up-pot into large red solo cups. Looking forward to a great harvest 🍅

My fave sweet peppers are the horn types instead of bells. The largest is Carmen, I also grow any of the colors of Cornito or Corno di Toro peppers.
I enjoyed this! I’m growing Supremo cucumbers this year too!
Thanks!
Thank you for the transplant leggy tomatoes video Travis!! 😊👏😊

You should try Lesya sweet peppers if you haven’t before

Love the UGA reference. Go Dawgs! Gator/AU stink. 🤣🤣🤣

Give some tabasco peppers a shot. They're Great looking plants and they make a great fermented hot sauce.
No luck with bell peppers, but really like pimento peppers in their stead, do well in East Texas heat.
Beautiful choice of colors. I knew you had it in you living that close to the state line.
Been there before. Good save Trav.

I'm in 8b about an hour from Tyler. What about peas? Should I be planting them pretty soon as well?
Some purple and gold would be better! Geaux Tigers! I really enjoy your videos and have learned so much. Thank you!
Great video, but I cannot seem to find the link to the containers. Thanks.
Looking for the same pots.

I'm trying big boy tomatoes for the first time I don't plant my peppers until June with better success
My chickens love sliced cucumber so if I grow too many..😊
Makes sense

So many channels say trash then n start over but hav saved many of them. Especially tomatoes. Not so much peppers.
Now that you have some good Gator gear in the greenhouse your seeds will be really happy.
Some good peppers to consider : Jimmy Nardello, Giant Marconi, Goddess banana, Utri and Cherry Bomb.
We are going to try Giant Marconi this year. Hope it is as flavorful as we like it!
How much agri thrive are you mixing with your seedlings water for your feeding’s
About an ounce per gallon -- and I feed them every time I water.
Thank you sir I appreciate all the great advice and knowledge that I have received from you and your videos keep it up !!!
Travis, what soil did you use to up pot?
Same stuff -- ProMix BX.
What is the power consumption, especially if you daisy chain on one power outlet.
Not sure. But it didn't seem like it made my power bill skyrocket that much.
From a former Floridian, Go Gators! 🤭
Do you put soil over seeds before you put perlite on or do you cove seeds with perlite only
Just the perlite for covering.
I agree that urnge and blue is not a good combo. You need some crimson and white. Roll Tide Roll!!!

An old small spoon works incredibly for digging out transplants... Way better than yer toenail cleaner. 😂😂
What do you do about those terrible caterpillars/worms that tear up zucchini and any other cucurbit in the garden? I have been having infestations that I cannot get under control for the past 2 years.
Bt or Spinosad will usually take care of them.
@@LazyDogFarm I used BT and Seven weekly but it did not work. They laughed at BT 😳 and would power through Seven. What frequency did you treat?
Travis have you stopped using the 8 5 5
We have. We use Coop Gro now as our pre-plant fertilizer.
Travis! Wrt the hot peppers and the sauce we make, would you sell me a little of your lifetime supply of xanthan gum?
My cabbage, squash & zucchini are leggy, can I do the same with them?
Do you direct sow cucumbers seed
Reason why?thank you
Yes, we direct sew them. But the commercial growers around here transplant them. So you can do either.
Wat?! New York Mets colors, nothing wrong with that 😂
You may want to store that dawg bucket away from the greenhouse. You may go out one morning and find out that dawg bucket ate those two boot strap lizard trays.
Go GATORS!
Absolutely I already potted up almost every one of my peppers and tomato plants. Wait a minute I don’t see no 🍆 are you growing any this year
P r o m o s m 🤪
My ? Is why do u not save some your seeds that u really like ! I said u had hard time on one them !
Travis mostly plants hybrids no seed saving...
