Inside Britain's migrant camps: 600 people living in limbo | Wethersfield report

- Tensions have been rising at Wethersfield in Essex, where around 600 asylum seekers are being held in a former military base. The men, a number of whom claim to be torture survivors, are waiting for their claims to be processed by the Home Office.
The Home Office say their detainment is a temporary solution while their claims are actioned. But these men say their stay has long-exceeded the promised maximum of 9 months.
We went to Wethersfield to speak to those living in conditions they describe as prison-like.

@@cordeliafitzgerald8714 Nonsense. Nobody said homeless due to asylum seekers... the point is they are homeless and are left to die while we white knight the rest of the planet. Our homeless are also due to Britain and should be prioritised.

I stayed in half of these camps when i was serving in the military. They were perfectly fine for us to be in. If these camps are so terrible, then wherever they came from couldn't of been that bad.

That mediator is clearly doing everything he can to be charitable, and yet its clear that he knows most of these men are not genuinely needy and are actually just angry that it wasn't as easy as the traffickers told them. The left needs to get real about this if it genuinely cares about housing, wages and public services or we're utterly finished.
The left were processing the claims back before the tories got into power in 2010.
Less than 5000 a year outstanding claims back then.
The right wing tories through austerity cut the services to process the genuine claims and send back those with no genuine asylum claim.

Also blame Brexit for taking us out of the Dublin agreement which allowed us to return them to the EU.
Lastly, stop listening to Suella and Farage who both lied through their faces on it.

The tories created this problem.
What about the homeless getting the same attention?
A lot of homeless refuse help it's well documented
@@roseanncampbell3168 this is very true, and help is often conditional on staying off drugs and since homelessness and drug use goes together like beans and toast, often that means people prefer to be on the streets without help but also without rules. Also i've sat down and spoke to people sleeping rough, and they said they preferred being on the streets to the shelters as living in the shelters is (somehow) more squalid and chaotic than being on the streets, I guess if you think about it, putting 100's of homeless people with drug problems and mental health problems in the same space, it's going to be a bad place to want to be

This is down the road from me. The local community has been disgusted with everything thats happened at Wethersfield as the other option was a prison. There is zero infrastructure here and country roads. James Cleverly has been using all the people after his party created the problem.
