- THIS IS PART 1 OF A SERIES OF PLAYING THE T-26-4 WITH ONLY SHRAPNEL SHELLS AND HE TO TRY AND GET 5 KILLS!
The T-26-4 is notoriously one of the worst vehicles if not THE worst vehicle in the game. With a max penetration of 37mm on the best shell, I was tasked with running the WORST shell it has... the 27mm of penetration Shrapnel Shell!
Basically, the Shrapnel shell is a flying shotgun. But imagine the shotgun hasn't fired yet until it hits the side of a vehicle. Assuming the armour is thin enough, the shell will penetrate then explode, injecting the inside of the vehicle with shrapnel which should (in hope) knock out the crew.
IF being the key word here. IF it penetrates.

trying to grind planes when I'm a purely ground rb player. didn't even think about CAS until reaching 8.0

@@millerthehunter3999 Leos have 70mm armor from the front, 35 from the side and 25 from the back. How tf is he gonna bully a leo with 27 pen?
@@stevenglikin3219 well it does overmatch the leos rear armor so its possible it wont be fun but its a thing either way though it would be just a kill rather than anything also the weisel is at that br so yeah

I still enjoy it more than the French R/H.35 things. The thinner armor makes the suffering shorter.
But you make a valid point about forcing new players to deal with this thing. Stuff like this that are "historically significant" but crap in the game should be rolled under the T-26, so unlocking it is optional to come back to for those who like the suffer (or challenge I guess).
i think they only made one prototype of that T26, even the Russians themselves knew it was bad
@@renesiegburg8955 i am most likely be wrong, but they might have used it as a way to check if they could salvage something from the t-35 project or an attempt to make a support vehicle for the t-35
The 76mm gun on this thing is an infantry support howitzer, it's excellent at dealing with soft targets but it's obviously somewhat bad against tanks.
They put the same turret on BT5s/BT7s and it has actually seen some service (well, just like everything else the soviets produced in that era, it was desperately needed).
It's obviously bad for warthunder but it's just because warthunder lacks infantry, machinegun nests and other similar stuff.

SUGGESTION: call the series “worse from here”, think it would be quite fitting

Although not exactly difficult, another mentally challenging thing to try is the french tractor P.7.T AA at higher tiers lol

@@hasbenyek5370 You mean tank with short gun? In my opinion Brits on 5.3 - 5.7 has worst tank AP suck when you shoot a tank and it bounce you can't reverse because reverse speed more worse than panther when your shoot bounce on Brits 5.3 - 5.7 there no way you survive, unless you lucky

@@ants2230 It's not fun for me when you are being careful about your shot in warthunder. Using APHE you need to shoot certain angles /sides, and I hate being careful.

I saw this bug before winds of change. On that specific map on that gamemode the middle of the map marks you if your spawn is the top. The spawn radar is insane
also, when it shows the enemy spawn area, that doesnt neccesarily mean you are marked or not. I know for a fact you get marked on the map just a little BEFORE it shows you the spawn area. so if you go just out of the area where it shows the enemy area, you will still be marked for the enemies, there is like 100m range between being marked and the part where it shows enemy spawn
I read somewhere that War Thunder actually models this shell wrong. Its supposed to explode before hitting the target and dispense steel balls forward like a shotgun. Its supposed to be an anti infantry shell.

The last time I used shrapnel shells was before the first CAS rocket nerf. It seems time (and Gaijin) has not been kind to those shells, as my memory tells me that those rounds absolutely slapped when they penned.
I feel your pain... this reminds me of a recent game where I had to suffer at the hands of a T14 in my T34 in a full uptier... I cried tears of joy when someone with a real tank finally got rid of him.
I love how this tank is either non-pen or instant kill with no inbetween

@accelerationquanta5816No armour, not fast, awful gun with low velocity and low penetration. There are three major things a tank can have to make it good, and this thing isn't good at any of them.
@accelerationquanta5816 The APHE has 37mm of flat pen, point blank. I don't even think the APHE used to be stock, too. It can kill things if you aim for weak spots, but the gun is so inaccurate and such low velocity that aiming for weak spots becomes almost impossible beyond 200m. It has neither the armour to reliably survive within 200m of an enemy, nor the speed to get there reliably. You are better off with the reserve bt5, a tank you get for literally just opening the game.

I can certainly feel the pain. When I played, I played the low tier, reserve and 1 - 3 BR french tanks till I spaded then out and got all the camos. Much like flogging yourself daily.

First time I have seen OddBawz genuinely struggle playing war thunder even though he has used multiple bad tanks before. This will also probably be the only time that I will see him struggle lol

The fun thing of the T-26-4 is that is has an mg in the back of the turret that actually works (if you keybind it). That could have saved you from Sweden at 4:58. Maybe you can make a video where you take out tanks using turretback mgs? They are also on the KV-2 (1940) and the SMK.

I almost did I have one nation that after unlocking two br 2.3 tanks the stock versions were so crap I stopped playing them.

When I was new to the USSR tech tree I loved this little tank til I got to rank 3/4. I think it's much better than the t-35 even though that landship has more guns

I’ll be honest...I started War Thunder with this tank, and loved it to pieces because of the lovely 75mm cannon and APHE Fuze... I... I somehow loved it more than the BT series...
Early on in WT I abstained from grinding this thing....now I know why. And I think you're right Odd, there's no telling how many players have been discouraged from playing because of this thing. Thank God I never tried.

13:30 one of the last sneaky spots, side climb from spawn on the rocks almost like a ramp for you . I Used to use it all the time.

I'm a pretty empathetic person and I almost shed a tear for you on this one. I was wondering if the HE round would work better and then you did it. Still, this tank needs to be pulled from the game. Most Reserve tanks are better from what I just saw. Whomever gave you this challenge is a real SOB! 😆This is why we drink...

In today's episode of TopThunder, we can see a scottish grown man break down in tears when he tries to play a shitpost tank, failing and horribly wounding his soul in the process.
And just think the T-28 has only Shrapnel and HE stock, at 1.7. It does get a whole whopping 31mm of pen at 10m, but still. It's an unarmored box with pen lower than most nations reserve tanks until it unlocks it's APHEBC round. The T-28(1938) is in the same boat, only it has the exact same gun as on the T-26 at 1.3.
When I gave War Thunder a go I started with the French line because I love French vehicles, they tend to just be silly and I love that, after realizing that playing those is basically playing the game on hard mode, I decided to do what everyone suggested and play Russia, and I figured I would push for the KV-1 because I like myself some heavy tanks. That meant having to research all of the Shrapnel tanks, all 3 of them. I also struggled to understand why any of the tanks before the T-50 were considered upgrades, they all have the exact same gun, with the exact same ammo, and none of them have any armor to speak of. At least the T-50 got a new round that gave it good pen at the cost of no explosive filler. Early Russia is just pain, that doesn't make any sense. Your reserve tanks are basically as good as all of the other tanks in Rank 1, and even share the same gun as some of your early Rank 2 tanks. The T-50 and T-80 having the exact same gun as the BT-5. Not saying it's a bad gun, but when you can spawn the BT-5 for free, and the T-50 has a repair cost, it just doesn't make sense to spawn the T-50 as a new player who is likely strapped for cash. Added to that you can ace the crew on the BT-5 for basically nothing, meaning it's actually MORE effective than the T-50's gun as a new player is unlikely to have the GE or research to ace the T-50 where it's only 10 GE to ace the BT-5, but it's 110 to ace the T-50.
As much as I did make it through the horrible grind to the T-34, KV-1, and ZiS-30, I was so sour on the game I didn't have much motivation to play anymore, and haven't really played since. Gaijin really needs to work on the early game for a lot of the nations. Russia basically has no reason to actually play anything other than the BR-5 and T-26 until they unlock the T-34 and KV-1. France doesn't get a good native tank until 3.3 with the AMX-13 (FL11), the B1 bis doesn't really count as it's honestly under gunned for it's BR and under armored for the BRs it has to be in because of its own BR, and the Crusader Mk.II and the M3A3 Stuart are just better tanks to play. As the Crusader get's APHE with better pen than the B1's APC round, and the Stuart has APCBC with far better pen than anything France get's natively at 2.X aside from the 1.3 Lorraine 37L that was added well after the Stuart and Crusader were added to the French tree. Though honestly the biggest issue the B1 has is that it has nothing to pair up with. You ether have to drag 1.3 tanks into possibly 3.3 or drag the B1 into possibly 3.7 where it will greatly suffer as it's the only 2.3 in the French tree, likely to force you to buy the now 2.7 B1 ter to get the extra armor.
I'm sure a fair few other nations also have issues with weak low tier stuff, as it feels Gaijin only care about America and Germany having decent low tier experiences. Even though I would imagine that at least 40% but more likely 60% of new players coming to War Thunder choose a starting nation that isn't ether of those two. They really should work on making every nation at least decent and have a sense of progression at low tier, as first impressions are the most important thing for retaining new players.
T50 has way better armor, you probaby expected too much and got dissapointed
@@Boz1211111 Can't say I'd call 37mm of armour "way better" when the tanks even at it's own BR can punch through that like a hot knife through butter. If you're gonna likely die anyway it may as well be for free in the tank with the same gun that has a higher reverse speed raising your chances of living in the first place.
i did really well in it when i used to play it with the shrapnel shell that was the only shell i used back in 2018-2019
This is normal Soviet experience, no turret depression so you almost never can do a successful ambush, slow reload, slow movement, slow turret turn and paper armor (after rank 2)

I recently re-installed this game and while no pen shots are annoying, 5 pen shots into one tank and they still shoot you is even more frustrating in my book!
