Do you guys realize the amount of time and effort that these guys put into every single video? Every soundtrack. Every video clip. Every script. Every single visual presentation. The love that they have, they put into every part of everything they make. Thanks, VSauce.
I feel like if the world actually ended via nuclear war, I'd find myself wandering the wastes one day, all dressed up in my protective gear, and while wandering the ruins, one day, I'd just find a roaming Jake Roper, walking into random destroyed buildings and talking to a wall as if he's narrating a youtube video.
And I feel like I would be in my protective blue and yellow jumpsuit, wandering Southern California, With a pip-boy and a dog, and find Jake Roper, one of the few talking heads.
Vsauce is really cool too I like the ones about space but Vsauce 3 has awesome topics all around, creative camera angles and they are very fun to watch.
The end segment where he holds a speech as one of the many that would survive a nuclear winter where a payload of 100 nuclear weapons where spent. 20 megadeaths from the initial blast. Approximately 1 billion deaths from famine/nuclear winter. It is a testament that even how bleak and hopeless times gets, human survivors have nothing but the choice to move on and endure.
MichalH Part of it is what Gren_Sonny said. Another part was the Sagan quote which frames the Earth as a single organism and the development of that consciousness arising out of space exploration. I took it as a way of saying "this is what would happen if the world ended-- but it doesn't necessarily means it will. Because the technological prowess that we have (and that we're coming into) will facilitate a new way of looking at things so that we don't resort to such a move." Also, the inspiration came from the fact that Jake was able to find some way to put a positive spin on a literal worst case scenario. People that can do that inspire me to try and emulate that attitude in my own work and in my outlook on the world. Hope that explains it :)
7:56 is the part of the video I come back to even though it's been 4 years sense this video has been uploaded. I love watching that part when I'm going through something tough like this whole year of 2020. I always become hopeful about the future. That even if we mess up we learn and better ourselves and how we should drive more for unity rather then a divide. And if anyone reading this RN is going through something big or small just not it's better to talk to someone about it and to keep going through life the best you can and I wish I could give y'all a hug rn. Be hopefully for the future and live one day at a time take sometime for yourself and if your like me where you have a lot of time try new things and keep your self happy you got this.

Yeah, we are used to youtubers making much more rough and unscripted work... scripted and planned videos that vsauce does is certainly the minority. That's why they take so much time to make the videos... but it so good.
1. The video should be 240p, 144p is too low for that format. 2. TH-cam's 144p sucks, it doesn't change it like if you recorded initially at that resolution.

This sumarizes perfectly my thoughts on a possible "apocalypse". Never i have thought that humanity would seize to exist entirely, to be extinct, wiped out into the last man. No matter the numbers, humanity will rise again and new era will begin. We have very little hope to affect those future societies and steer them into any direction we would want but i *hope* and believe that those future people would have knowledge of our mistakes and wisdom to not make same mistakes again in same magnitude. We are trying to learn from fallen civilizations, as will future generations from ours. Agricultural, societal, political reasons.. I see no reason why humanity would be locked into some neverending, self-destructing loop. As do children learn from their parents mistakes, so will future generations do. Actually, i believe the harder the fall of our present global civilization, the harder future generations will try to avoid our mistakes. Certainly there will be hardship and grief but that has human life been and is now, more or less. And certainly there will be permanent ramifications to our actions that affect future people but i am certain these will not prevent humanitys new rise, at worst just make it slower. Of course, it is better if we can avoid such event from happening but would that kind of calamity happen, i would want to think it as forest burning down naturally. It will grow again and in certain aspects stronger than before.
The good thing of being from the southern hemisphere, is getting away (pretty much) with nuclear war, not just we arent target to the bombs itself, but the aftermath (nuclear winter, ecosistems, radiation, pollution, etc), will be relatively okay in comparison.
NO!!! we should not worry about small things like our student loans and let the world end because of of it. what if we, the people, the plants and animals in this earth, are the only form of life left in this universe. it's is unlikely, yes, but we can't just let life end just like that. also consider the many times when almost all life on the earth perished (the great Permian Die off).
It's sad to think that if the world ends then that would be the end of what humans have discovered, researched, created, invented, and this was just a phase in time that has come to an end.
+Landon Talkington they were still a part of the human race though. So it's sort of the same but on a much, much smaller scale. I like to think of it more like: Imagine how the dinosaurs felt, once they ruled, now they are ashes of a forgotten world...
The nuke dropped on Hiroshima is now classed as a very small bomb. It yields about 15 kt of TNT while the biggest nuke ever detonated is called the tsar bomba made by the USSR yields about 50 000 kt of TNT. just think about the destruction 100 of those could do.
Not really the point, Rodrigo... He's saying 100 Tsar Bombas would bring destruction of epic proportions. The single one that was detonated disrupted global radio comms. That's pretty intense.
Fallout shelters don't work because you need oxygen. All that oxygen in the shelter will eventually be used up. So you'll inevitably gonna have to go to the surface
1:38 Mills helped model the outcome of an India-Pakistan nuclear war in a 2014 study. In that scenario, each country exchanges 50 weapons, less than half of its arsenal. ... The model suggested those explosions would release about 5 million tons of smoke into the air, triggering a decades-long nuclear winter.
even tho humanity could ceased to exist because of nuclear winter, there will some of the groups of people will survive "The fate of destruction is the joy of rebirth"-NGE
Not exactly, it's known as MAD, mutually assured destruction, and happens mostly due to fallout it gets in the water and soil and then we're all screwed cause without things safe to eat or drink people cannot exist!
HappyTimeHollis Yes he said "Albert Einstein, in an interview with Alfred Werner, Liberal Judaism 16 (April-May 1949), Einstein Archive 30-1104, as sourced in The New Quotable Einstein by Alice Calaprice (2005), p. 173" according to wikiquotes
Screarnt You don't really understand what he meant. He meant that WW3 will be fought with so devastating that it will destroy most of civilization and saying that WW4 will be fought with sticks and stones meant just that. I myself believe also that there will be also weapons like tanks in WW4 but now you understand what he meant.

I love how you can end a video about the world literally ending on a positive note. Super informative and awesomely inspirational
now tell me how is that inspirational

Same here.
I'm sure it was intentional.

"War ... war never changes ..."
Anyone else thought that he was gonna say "War never changes." at 1:11?
Love the effort he puts into the special effects
1:10 I though he was gonna say, "war, war never changes."

i soooo thought the same thing
Patrolling the Mojave almost makes you wish for a nuclear winter,
Yeah, almost.
Ha! New Vegas quote! :-D
Radio New Vegas felt so homely and relaxing no matter where you were.
FNV was great.
.
Whatever happened to Three Dog? Wasn't he supposed to be in Fallout 4?
One of the best youtuber ever in the history of youtube. I love this man.
I get really excited whenever I just hear Carl Sagan's name aw
He's like our collective space grandpa
If the world ends, it just means I dont have to pay my student loans no more. Let the world end.
funny edgy meme!!!!!
Or taxes
NO!!! we should not worry about small things like our student loans and let the world end because of of it. what if we, the people, the plants and animals in this earth, are the only form of life left in this universe. it's is unlikely, yes, but we can't just let life end just like that. also consider the many times when almost all life on the earth perished (the great Permian Die off).
+Harjot Singh Dude he is just joking
let just USA end in this case
I could survive with a bottle of water and vsauce videos
Twelve Weeks just casually eat my scabs and boil my iron to make it safe to drink
No me
Ood

Go see a therapist.

You have done so much of hardwork making this vedio.
Love you and thank you for making such vedios. May your channel gets billions of subscribers.
0:42 From state farm
I wasn't the only one that got that!
Lol XD
what are you wearing, Jake from State Farm!?
Uhhh.. Khakis?
Lol, he said "I'm Jake" right as I read that.
It's sad to think that if the world ends then that would be the end of what humans have discovered, researched, created, invented, and this was just a phase in time that has come to an end.
Doesn't necessarily mean none of this can be recover. That said, let's hope this just never happens.
it could be The end of mankind , or The end of an era , if it happens (I don't want it too) , think of it as a second middle ages
I find it more depressing that in just ten years it'd be gone, but we'd all be dead by that point.
How do you think the Mayans felt? :(
+Landon Talkington they were still a part of the human race though. So it's sort of the same but on a much, much smaller scale. I like to think of it more like: Imagine how the dinosaurs felt, once they ruled, now they are ashes of a forgotten world...
1:10 I thought he was gonna say War never changes
Haha same xD
Snake has something to tell you.
This video was insanely well made, extremely good job jake
"They say that war..." war never changes...
yes
from fallout 3 intro, right?
Looks like bethesda's marketing team did their job
+kiên nguyễn trung Originally from Fallout 1, actually. I believe that line opens all the fallout games.
War....War's always changing.
Those final group of words had a lot of wisdom clinging to them
I love that A E S T H E T I C!
yeah not only the animations but the yellowy 1980s vidya film style they used too
Kind of scary that I was able to recite the quote as he was saying it something of which I haven't heard in decades.
Beautifully done.
All of these visuals make me think of kung fury :-)
yes!

patrolling the Mohave almost makes you wish for a...
you know what never mind, that sounds pretty bad.
you know you can already patrol it? just go to nevada
Wish for a... a cactus? I don't get it. How can patrolling Mojave make people wish for bad things?
I joined the Legion anyway.
+Jacob Griffin it's a fallout new Vegas reference
Jacob Griffin It's a line of dialogue from Fallout: New Vegas. The line goes "Patrolling the Mojave, almost makes you wish for a nuclear winter".
"LET'S GET A CAN OPENER!" *walks four steps and keeps talking*
Don't worry faithful followers I would protect you all if the world ended
Lol
Thank you lord cthulhu
Thank you oh mighty dark lord
how do i join ur clan do i need a sniper
only atom can protect
The nuke dropped on Hiroshima is now classed as a very small bomb. It yields about 15 kt of TNT while the biggest nuke ever detonated is called the tsar bomba made by the USSR yields about 50 000 kt of TNT. just think about the destruction 100 of those could do.
plz no O_O
Russia/USSR never dropped a bomb over humans. The US did... Probably your country, right?
Not really the point, Rodrigo... He's saying 100 Tsar Bombas would bring destruction of epic proportions. The single one that was detonated disrupted global radio comms. That's pretty intense.
Its not if. Its a matter of when.
Indeed.
So deep...
Now go back solving your homework my little summer boy
or how it will happen.
Well anything is a matter of when.
The nuclear winter is inevitable, get the Tony Bamanaboni Life Insurance, protect the Spaghetti and Meat Balls
okay but honestly jake is a really good actor in this and the videos are so well made
I like how 80s you made this look.
Well if the world ended, get to your local fallout shelters so you can live 200 years in it.
or have 99 women...or 99...men
being frozen
+Panda Legion In fire or ice?
***** Ice, although fire would be cooler...
Fallout shelters don't work because you need oxygen. All that oxygen in the shelter will eventually be used up. So you'll inevitably gonna have to go to the surface
love the production value on this one, especially the 80s synthwave style
1:38 Mills helped model the outcome of an India-Pakistan nuclear war in a 2014 study. In that scenario, each country exchanges 50 weapons, less than half of its arsenal. ... The model suggested those explosions would release about 5 million tons of smoke into the air, triggering a decades-long nuclear winter.
even tho humanity could ceased to exist because of nuclear winter, there will some of the groups of people will survive
"The fate of destruction is the joy of rebirth"-NGE
IMR Creeper
>humanity ceases to exist
>groups of *people* will survive
Please come back when you make sense.
TheHiddenClues it doesn't make sense too when it comes to games :O
IMR Creeper Problem is that games dont do this :^)
TheHiddenClues so what makes that do this? :O
Not exactly, it's known as MAD, mutually assured destruction, and happens mostly due to fallout it gets in the water and soil and then we're all screwed cause without things safe to eat or drink people cannot exist!
"I do not know what ww3 will be fought, but ww4 will be fought with sticks and stones"
_Albert Einstein_
Except Einstein never actually said that.
He was most likely wrong. Guns and some tanks/planes/ships will still work just fine and WW4 will most likely be over resources shortly after WW3
You didn't type it right at all
Sagan quote at the end
7:56-9:05 is brilliant, not just the Sagan quote.
Karl Betcher Indeed!
The idea that Jake would continue making TH-cam videos even after the world ends doesn't seem that far fetched to me.
