The rainbow doesn't even belongs to the lgbt comunity, it's the sign in the sky of the promise God made to Noah, and plus the rainbow colors are the colors in which white is formed, and white is the color of the purity and represents the holiness of God
@@belenmazzeo8799 nope, Everything on this earth belongs to Zeus as well as other ancient gods, God is just a stupid invention of mankind that was inspired by other ancient religions.
The story of Abraham and Issac has more real trouble. God does not test us. He knows when we will fail and when we will succeed. He doesn't need to test. He is fond of rhetorical speech, so you have to think twice about what He says. Thank you for this perspective. I have always said that what is not written is just as important as what is written, and the Bible is what it is because it is so easy to carry.
James 1:2-15 CSB [2] Consider it a great joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you experience various trials, [3] because you know that the testing of your faith produces endurance. [4] And let endurance have its full effect, so that you may be mature and complete, lacking nothing. [5] Now if any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God - who gives to all generously and ungrudgingly - and it will be given to him. [6] But let him ask in faith without doubting. For the doubter is like the surging sea, driven and tossed by the wind. [7] That person should not expect to receive anything from the Lord, [8] being double-minded and unstable in all his ways. [9] Let the brother of humble circumstances boast in his exaltation, [10] but let the rich boast in his humiliation because he will pass away like a flower of the field. [11] For the sun rises and, together with the scorching wind, dries up the grass; its flower falls off, and its beautiful appearance perishes. In the same way, the rich person will wither away while pursuing his activities. [12] Blessed is the one who endures trials, because when he has stood the test he will receive the crown of life that God has promised to those who love him. [13] No one undergoing a trial should say, “I am being tempted by God,” since God is not tempted by evil, and he himself doesn’t tempt anyone. [14] But each person is tempted when he is drawn away and enticed by his own evil desire. [15] Then after desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin, and when sin is fully grown, it gives birth to death.
I always thought Jacob's adoption of Joseph's kids was just supposed to mean that now Joseph's children are part of the house of Israel. Like Joseph will still raise them but now Joseph's sons are adopted into Jacob's family. And going back to your queer interpretation, this could be symbolic of heteronormative parents and families opening their hearts and accepting their LGBT and their kids into the family with open arms. Besides Jacob is a traditional Jewish father who when their child makes it big they move into their fancy house and set up shop which is basically what happens, so even if Jacob adopted them, Joseph would not be separated from them and technically is the real landlord as it's Joseph's land and territory the Israelites are living in and they only have their home or food as long as Joseph allows it since he's the one with the authority granted by Pharoah
Ummmmmmm....... Are we going to ignore that the brothers who wanted to kill Joseph were the slave brothers and the ones who convinced them not to were the non-slave brothers!? 😬
I just love your 'queer' interpretations of the bible! The bible has been used as a 'weapon' for LGBTQ members throughout time, so it is only fitting to find supporting passages for the queer community in the bible.
Given that we're talking about a fictional character, anything goes, but was there even a notion of transgenderism in biblical times? How about he was just gay?
Transgender and gender nonconforming people have always existed in every time and culture even if they weren’t always seen through the lens that transgender people are seen through now. In some times and cultures they seem to have been actually more accepted than they are now. If you dig a bit you can find quite a few accounts and evidence of trans and/or gender nonconforming people from the past, which most historians unfortunately find ways to explain away. I don’t know off the top of my head if there have been any obvious ones from as far back as biblical times but the assumption that being transgender is a phenomenon of our current society is completely false (but convenient for those who want to argue against trans rights etc) Even if the culture as a whole didn’t accept a trans or gender nonconforming person, their family and possibly other people close to them still would have had feelings and responses to the way they presented/acted. For example, if you find yourself face to face with an unusual animal, you don’t have to know what sort of animal it is to have an instinctual response to it. You may find it cute, you may find it scary, you may find it repulsive, but you don’t have to look it up in an encyclopaedia first before working out how to feel and how it makes you want to act towards it. You feelings and reactions may be changed by learning more about it but you have a gut reaction even without knowledge. That’s the same for people we meet or know who are noticeably different from what we believe the social norms are. If the culture you were in had no concept of trans or gender nonconforming people and then you met someone who presented that way you wouldn’t have to cognitively know exactly what was different about them to react to them, and we definitely know that there always have been and always will be people who don’t fit in with their society, either through choice or just because they can’t help being ‘weird’ by their society’s standards
Suddenly I really want corn....Seriously, this was a very interesting and well supported argument about that story. But what would you say to anti-lgbtq people who will say that you are really stretching it and making a lot of assumptions. Like why doesn't the bible just plainly say that two men or two women had sex with each other and decided to be partners. There are always these vague references and puzzle pieces to put together. Like why didn't the writer just say Joseph loved sleeping with dudes and wearing women's clothes and had grindr on his phone?? So frustrating.
@The Daydreaming Wanderer I don't know that he's stretching it. I think it's important that we look into these little details that most people probably wouldn't notice especially if you were raised in a fundamentalist Church. So I think it's good that he focuses in on all the little nuances. I just know that most Evangelical Christians will dismiss this as stretching the truth too far or just plain old heresy. I wish the Bible explicitly stated certain things which is why I live my life by love which is what Jesus preached. I stopped looking at the Bible for answers to defend myself because if you look hard enough you can find anything in Scripture good or bad.
I love this presentation. I give workshops on it now and even purchased a technicolor dream coat from a theatre costume shop that was closing. I wish I had it when I filmed this.

What you're referring to is the Old testament law of Moses, which is no longer law anymore, per Galatians 3:23-25. Also, contrast what you said with the last part of 1 Samuel 16:7. Reconcile those two. Either God looks at the outward appearance like humans do or God doesn't.
When I was young I saw several Biblical pictur3 stories aimed at kids that depicted the young Joseph beautifully feminine looking and wearing Girlish clothing and either barefoot or wearing soft sandals and both ways with a ankle bracelet and once with mascaras face and henaed bare feet , so I always assumed pre-pubescent boys were dressed as girls during the Biblical period.

This video is an example of a technique called queer reading. You should not confuse it for an academic argument. It's more closely related to techniques such as bibliologue, that aim at personally interacting with a biblical narrative. A parallel that is often drawn is the Jewish practice of composing midrashim to answer questions posed by the biblical narrative. In this case, the first textual observation is the odd term used for Joseph's dress/coat. This is combined with Jewish sources that characterize Joseph as rather feminine in appearance. The bridal trade imagery used to show that Joseph's ties to his family are irrevocably cut is the next interesting textual observation, and the strange scene of Jacob "adopting" Joseph's sons is another hard fact present in the bible. Those hard facts within the text (also known as the "black fire") are then used to fill in the gaps creatively (this is known as "white fire"). The aim is not to recreate possible historical scenarios, but to make the text accessable to people who might otherways find it hard to relate to it.
But he was the leader of a world power that considered other nations as subservient to them. It's not about historical facts, but about creating resonances with our world today.
Hehehe, but the rainbow in the Bible is probably an older symbol than the official queer symbol. I am a Christian, having grown up in that religion, but education and experience have taught me that the reader can never be sure what the author meant. I do not treat the Bible as a holy book. To me it is a collection of legends, tribal stories, etc. If girls in the 21st century blush reading the BL, why wouldn't they blush listening to similar stories around campfires three thousand years ago? After all, it's not like Joseph really existed.
