Welcome to the Blue Cactus Dairy Goat Ranch! We breed show quality Nigerian Dwarf Goats! We currently have a herd of 22 does and 4 bucks. Our herd is rotationally grazed on our 10 1/2 acre homestead in Arizona. We make cheese and soap from the milk we get and we also raise chickens for eggs and meat and keep a large garden year round!

I watch lots of goat birth videos. I have to say so MANY could learn from you!!!!
These animals need time to deliver!!!!! Those that rush in stand the chance of damaging the mother, or inducing infection!!!!! Obviously it's difficult to see them struggling but God made these creatures to birth without human intervention!!! Of course some really need intervention for the health of mom and babies but for GOODNESS SAKES give nature the time it needs to progress!!!!!

In nature, problems can arise. Which can kill both mama and baby. I wouldn't even dream of losing a doe and kid like that, these are quality goats.
I agree. Intervene if needed for mom and baby safety,but NOT because you are impatient. Crystal is a perfect midwife!

The thumbnail was like omgosh her face! I can’t! But that is the many faces of Labor for the Does. He is a beautiful Buck though she was having a hard time to birth him. But he was a Godzilla of a buck!! When she flipped over I was so scared cause she was having such a hard time to pass the head and hooves. He is gorgeous though and all came out alright. He is a cutie pie and will be a great herd-sire for someone. Great job and congratulations Cassie!! 🤗🙏🏽❤️

You don't jump right in and pull the kid out, you let mommy try her hardest. You don't use clickbait titles and if you have an idea that came from another TH-camr you always say so. Your goats are so beautiful. I love that you name the kids with the first letter of their mom name. And the way you reuses old wood and pallets. In domestic animals they eat better regularly , with vitamines and minerals. They have larger, healthier babies and a better chance at blockage and loss. Then we have these naturalists that insist they be treated like near starved wild animals. It amazes me the stupidity.
Crystal, you make sure your babies and momas survive with the least drama. Love you for that. These goats have not ever had or seen wild birth. We used to squat under a tree. So glad these back to the basic nuts didn't insist I find a tree.

Set up goat workshops and do a Joe Salatin of the permaculture world. You are a mine of information!!! You have the acreage to build accommodation for those schooling events. Homesteading will skyrocket after this lockdown. Grow your own and buy property up in the mountains for the future.

Crystal, I really appreciate your approach with your does when they labor.
Allowing the doe to remain as she is, without lots of activity in the kidding pen, just keeping things quiet is so nice.
I have watched videos of other goat births, and the noise, constant chatter, and then aggressively pulling the kid out when the feet first show is distressing.
Nature is wise, and in a natural setting, most does will give birth (maybe after a few hollers) and clean up the babies without the fuss, noise and excess handling seen at some farms. Does bond with their kids during birth and shortly afterwards: as tempting as it might be to pick up the newborns and cuddle them, it's far better to let the doe 'own' them and give them those important first few feedings.
It has been shown human labor can slow down or stop if the mom doesn't feel safe.
Ringing phones, flash cameras, and loud talk doesn't help the doe feel secure when she is most vulnerable. If the humans caring for the doe are excited, worried, and nervous, you can bet the goat feels it too.
Thank you for allowing us to be (remotely) present while maintaining a calm, comfortable, safe, environment for your does. Such a good job.
You also know when to step up, and you are always decisive and capable when the need arises. I learn something every time I watch these videos, and I've watched them many times.

I have a question so this is my Horst ever set of kids that will be due here in the next few weeks. My does a first timer and I’ve noticed a lot of yellow discharge for the past 3 weeks. Her udders is also full. I didn’t know if you have any advice for me. She’s also been sunken in for a few weeks but I can’t tell how loose her ligaments are supposed to be.

They do! The bottom jaw has a set of teeth, the top jaw is a "dental pad" rather than physical teeth, the bottom jaw also has a set of teeth either side at the back for chewing cud
