Jesus, what an absolute savage… It’s been years since I last watched this (on VHS!), and after getting into Guthrie, Tom Quayle, Matteo Mancuso, and the djent scene, it blows my mind how Paul Gilbert is still untouchable. And not just his technique.
Yea Paul is definitely in the top 3 of my list. His notes are so clear and separated. And he has a great personality and can play anybody else's stuff too, from Bach to malmstean.....
If he shared his talent with a dozen others they would all be amongst the best musicians out there. Otherworldly levels of skill we should just admire and appreciate. If others haven't discovered him yet then that's their loss
I remember my first time seeing Paul play live was at the Living Room in Providence back in 89 with Mr. Big. Amazing performance. Perfect in his skills as always. But Billy Sheehan just totally blew my face off.
I love his string skipping so much!! its totaly bomb... and i've been workin' my ass of here for a few days and im really startin' to get hit goin', Paul is so GREAT!
Exceptionally excellent guitarist incarnated with superb faculty, creative and artistic aptitude. The presentation was greatly spellbounding and induced hysterical madness!
The scary part is he's not looking about 95% of the time, he's looking at the audience...Here is a man at one with his guitar. Paul Gilbert is a guitar god.
I remember seeing Gilbert back in 1989 in Dallas, and 1991 or 92 in Lubbock when Mr. Big was opening for Rush. OUTSTANDING!!! Thanks for posting this video!
Funny thing is that this was from his Mr Big days when everyone didn't know Paul was a shredder. Most of them were there to see them play "To be with you"
I appreciate Paul Gilbert alot more now that I actually play the guitar..that made the difference for me. PG is by far the most appealing thing to my ear now lolzz
How could anyone argue?....Paul is the MASTER of shred guitar. Hands down. There's no contest. I'm sorry, you can hand over the Pulitzer right now, I'd like to thank everyone who voted. Bye now.
Gilbert waaaaaaaawwwwwwwwwwww Goddddddddddddddddd he knws how to play decrecendo n crecendo which is vry hard wen playin but he nail if its notin to him wooooooooowwwwww
@xPurpleDrinkx9001 It's the same as his lick "Sequenced String Skipping", just transposed to a different key...not sure what key though, I haven't taken the time to figure it out
@JACVA1 If I'm not mistaken, he is actually screaming into his pickups. I saw one vid where he explained that he was once given a left handed guitar on a live show with Steve Vai and other guys, and all of them had a chance to solo, so when his turn came, he started talking into his pickups pretending he was playing with his teeth, and came out perfectly !
The other marvel here is how well it's captured. It's a mic job, but a damned good one. He has the ability to smooth out a ton of high end when he plays. So, they are able to ran a wicked bright tone, (which mics up well) and it's still smooth and not harsh because he's playing it. It's a good stereo mic job that they obviously spent some time perfecting.
wow this guy 's my hero !!!! is that a jr high auditorium he's playing in !!! the ninth graders must be highly impressed !!!! what a great song does it have a beginning and end or is just scales over and over and over and over and over
"Faster than a speeding bullet" That's a big understatement. If I could move my fingers faster than Paul Gilbert, every girl in the world wouldn't need anymore pleasing!
it's from a string skipping sequence from intense rock, and he also does it in one of his other solo's from this time period, when he gets out the drill, in tokyo I believe
My two favorite guitarists:
Eddie van halen
Paul Gilbert
Mine lil Wayne and Fred Durst.
Don't forget Jason Becker and Greg Howe.
😂@@dannyjoseph3585

Jesus, what an absolute savage…

Yea Paul is definitely in the top 3 of my list. His notes are so clear and separated. And he has a great personality and can play anybody else's stuff too, from Bach to malmstean.....
Nu îl poate cânta pe Shawn Lane mate
I think in this concert he does an Eddie Van Halen intro.
If he shared his talent with a dozen others they would all be amongst the best musicians out there. Otherworldly levels of skill we should just admire and appreciate. If others haven't discovered him yet then that's their loss
He shared his talents to many modern greats through his intense rock 1&2 videos. Aggressive alternate picking would not exist without Paul.
I remember my first time seeing Paul play live was at the Living Room in Providence back in 89 with Mr. Big. Amazing performance. Perfect in his skills as always. But Billy Sheehan just totally blew my face off.

Saw Mr Big open for Rush. Was worth every penny.
That's what separates the men from the boys. There is only a handful of people in the world that "it" on guitar, and Paul Gilbert is one of them.

@JACVA1 If I'm not mistaken, he is actually screaming into his pickups. He has unique sound. in his guitar/amp. Twangy. I wouldn't necessarily play with that sound but it suits his style very well!
The other marvel here is how well it's captured. It's a mic job, but a damned good one. He has the ability to smooth out a ton of high end when he plays. So, they are able to ran a wicked bright tone, (which mics up well) and it's still smooth and not harsh because he's playing it. Yea Guthries' playing is amazing to! Check out his piece he does on the fretless guitar
Hell yeah X)
wow this guy 's my hero !!!! is that a jr high auditorium he's playing in !!! the ninth graders must be highly impressed !!!! what a great song does it have a beginning and end or is just scales over and over and over and over and over
"Faster than a speeding bullet" That's a big understatement. If I could move my fingers faster than Paul Gilbert, every girl in the world wouldn't need anymore pleasing!
this guys a god !
i was tabbing out the other version of this solo until it was muted......damn it
@verveverveverve It's the fourth part of the Willaim Tell Overture, also used as the Loan Ranger theme song.
it's from a string skipping sequence from intense rock, and he also does it in one of his other solo's from this time period, when he gets out the drill, in tokyo I believe
