Brian Bovell is 63 knocking on 64 now. Brings tears to my eyes. one minute life is all in front of you like when i was 17 first watching this and then your 51/52 and the best years are all behind you. Life had Prospects back then........
As a kid who grew up in the 80s I love anything from that time period and the late 70s that was filmed in the UK..just the nostalgia of the scenery etc.
Made by Euston films who produced both. You can see shades of it in this episode. Terrys comeback fight. And even OFAH with the dummy alarm boxes. But gradually grew into its own entity and a cult following for the few who watched it back in 86/87. 12 episodes. Originally shown on Channel 4 in 86 then move in 87 to primetime 9pm slot on ITV. ITV declined the option for a 2nd series.
TV shows like this (and The Sweeney, Minder etc.) serve as a great visual reminder of London, from an era we hazily remember but took very few photos of back in those days. When you see everyday scenes of London from those days which connect with your subconscious recollections, it is mag ical. I loved Prospects, it chimes with that ducking & diving mentaility working class people like me had then, and was represented in Only Fools & Horses too. People like these two, Del Boy, Arthur Daley, characters at the Winchester Club, etc really existed. Remember the hooky gear that used to be sold around the pubs in those days, we had aspirations to make a few quid and blow it on a good night out. Simple pleasures and lots of fun - I miss those days very much.
Say Bermondsey high street for example had 12 pubs on it? 12? nowadays all disgusting flat conversions or not there at all or worst of all swanky coffee shops. London has changed unrecognizable to the 70s/80s/90s where i was born grew up and lived and worked till i joined the Army in early 1990s and left the area. Went back years later but hated it and moved out to Essex.
I remember this comedy drama i used to watched it on channel four 1986 then repeat it on ITV 1987 Brian Bovell i remember him the bill and Gary Olson who sadly passed away in 1999 RIP 🙏🏻
Brilliant series, reminds me of when I was 17 in the 80’s playing snooker in London, the good old days when there was more characters about, as Pincy used to say its all out there for the taking!😂 how times have changed, miss them days.
Thank-you so much for posting this, I loved it back in the day, I was about 13 or 14 when it started & none of my friends watched it but I adored it. Good work, fella! :)

Aston Martin thx somethings just have to be shared.this series i think was for its time well out there and different and is a shame itv bought it and ditched it.

Good for you. I agree with you, it's all about finding something you want to do, something you're passionate about. I won't have 7 figures in the bank but I should be able to semi retire at 50 and pick and choose work as I please.
I left school at 16 with no qualifications and no prospects, so I borrowed £30 and bought a little handcart and started going round collecting up old newspapers. Do you know what I'm worth today? Nothing! And I still owe for the handcart.
Delighted to find the entire series on YT. I was 15-16 doing my 'O' Levels when this was first screened- loved it. It made an impact because I never forgot about it. I tried finding it on Channel 4 catch up to no avail. Great to be able to watch it again! Thanks for uploading! :)
Love the description about the trials and tribulations of the Thatcher years. Not a mention that the problems were caused by the previous zLieber government.
You knew it was alway gonna go pair shaped rather than be a success for them. The system wants us to fail and be slaves to the debt not much has changed in that respect.
