Weird West is one of my fave game. It’s a very underrated gem that just didn’t get the attention it deserves. Hopefully players will give it a chance and see for themselves how good the game is.
It was an indie game released with a limited marketing budget so its to be expected. Wolfeye studio's next game looks much bigger and more mainstream so if that puts them on the map there may be a resurgence of interest in weird west too.
It actually came out on ps+ this month. A few tips i can offer 1. Steal. Steal anything and everything not glued down. You can steal guns from the shops and all the ammo attatched to them. You can also sell them right back to the gun shop person. 2. Dont trust horse inventories. In the last 2 characters, theres a chance your horse inventory will just get deleted with no way to get it back. 3. Stealth. For anyone not quite understanding why youre eating the ground everytime you try to go in guns blazing, try stealth. You can actually pick up random shit on the floor and throw it to distract enemies. 4. Posse. If you dont baby your posse, they will die. They are squishy as shit and dumber than rocks. They will die over and over and over if you arent consciously looking after them. 5. If you want to beat the witch slap mini game, theres an amulet for it. When you get to the last characters playthrough, the temple they start in has an amulet specifically made for the slapping minigame. 6. Reputation. No matter how badly you fuck up your reputation, you can and will always end up getting rep back by just doing bounty hunts and side quests. (That means, youll be fine in that one fire nation dude mission. Its a bit of a learing curve if youre like me and stubborn thinking its just an action game. Remember, guns blazing only works if you have a ton of ammo, bullets or abilities. Other than that, youll be alright
Someday this Raphael Colantonio’s game will become huge cult classic of immersive sims genre as well as his Prey, Dishonored. Until it underrated masterpiece
I think Weird West is a "flawed masterpiece" for sure. I think everyone who plays it sees it's a game for people who love worldbuilding and storytelling made by people who love worldbuilding and storytelling. However, like you covered in the video its many charms can't quite hide the many flaws with the game. I would love to see WolfEye revisit this world in the future and perhaps achieve in a later installment what they couldn't do in this bold debut title. I really hope WolfEye's next project builds off Weird West's ambitions and matches it with a strong foundation technically and a better gameplay design. Somedays I think I enjoy the "idea" of Weird West and what it could have been more than the actual game I played. Great Video! Also I very much respect how you covered the colonial history of "The West". I love westerns, and honestly I'd love to see more fantasy-infused western games; but I think any western game need to at the very least address what the west actually is. I'm all for bandit shootouts and riding into the sunset but I think any good western has to have the creative courage to at least talk about what the west is. No amount of fantasy can abstract away the violent roots of the west, and any worthwhile narrative has to address that. It doesn't even have to do it in a way I agree with, but it has to acknowledge it somehow.
I'm kinda hoping wolfeye focus on unique individual stories rather than making a series but they've shown they can squeeze a lot out of a little here so I'm excited about what they'll do next. And thanks man. It's been a minute since high school history so it was nice to dive back into that as well as learning the history of weird western fiction.
No it doesn't. No creator has to bow to YOUR "vision." That's just abjectly stupid and limits creativity. I COULD care less about the "history" of the West but you would have to pay me. I just want a playable GAME. This trash ain't that. (AND the story sucks too.) xD
Funny, I was just getting ready to sit and let my controller charge before diving into this game and finally making some progress. Looking for a retrospective to see what I'm getting into. Uploaded 14 hours ago, blessed lol thanks man.
In order to win the slap game with the witch, you need to collect the amulet of the open palm in chapter 4, playing as Desiderio Ríos. The amulet can be found in "somnolence" location, somewhere on a table
The uptick on each of my videos is getting a lot faster these days. YT works on a clicks begats clicks algorithm so you need a lot of clicks/engagement to get more clicks etc. This makes it very hard for new creators or ones with smaller followings to be seen and judged on the quality of their content vs if they are chasing trends. It is what it is though. I enjoy what I do and that's enough for now.
Anything but savage? I think you may be trying to not offend too much. There were very violent tribes that even others warned settlers about, I believe the Apache being one of such. The ones that scalped women, children for the fact they invaded their land, just like they did to other native tribes when taking their territory. Romanticizing anything is bad, but ignoring the natives fought one another for land before settlers arrived and did the same is acting like this is not how civilizations developed. You take from someone else to build your own and whoever wins takes it. That's not to say there weren't tribes tricked or massacred by settlers, because boy did they, but there were natives tribes others did not mess with or knew to kill on site themselves because of the barbaric things they would do in return.
The first half I agree with you though it's less about not offending people and more about how much time I'm want to donate to a particular topic. Diving deep into that area would have broken the flow of the script. I suppose I could have said "anything but godless and many were far from savage" or just cut the line and left it implied. Well we make mistakes we live we learn. You lost me around the part where you said I was "acting like this is not how society developed." That's a fairly abstract leap on your behalf. I've already mentioned Romans and Spartans in the video and I'm well aware of how they built their civilisations, likewise as someone from the uk I'm also well educated on what the British empire really was and where all that wealth came from. Just because things were/are done a certain way doesn't mean I have to like it.
Your script was perfectly fine. This video was for insight on a video game, not World History. The effort you put into the video as a whole was off the charts. Not often would I stick around for a 40min video, much less even click on it, and you had me engaged the entire time. Well done Sir.@@arkham666
You're NOT a Historian you're just a YTer. Maybe just talk about the GAME. Sorry to be so basic but I don't give a fuck about your "interpretation." Big surprise neither does, well the rest of the World? xD@@arkham666
Exactly. Pretty much the comment I was going to write. I’m part Native American and there were some incredibly savage things that happened. If he just tried to be honest with his writing, and didn’t fear offending people, then there would’ve been no problem
"They were anything but savage"
Scalping is pretty savage, bro.

Loved the shout, Arkham-thanks so much for the deep dive. Kudos, cowpoke!
No no sir thank you for coming forward and talking about your work. It was really interesting. I can't wait to see what you guys come up with next.

What a lovely video. I am so glad I found this channel, really enjoy your content.
Thanks friend. I really appreciate that.

Well I won't blame you for skipping the spoilers lol. Hope you enjoy the game.

Darkwatch is literally the best western game before red dead redemption 👏
Immediate sub
Looking forward to your thoughts on FF9 :)
Thanks. It's proving something of a pain to write. I may just have to accept that it could be nearly 2 hours long and full of spoilers at this point.
Great video mate
Thanks man. Hope you're keeping well over there.
I've been looking at it for months on gamepass, I need to just sit and commit 😂
Well if you've already got access to it via gamepass I think it's just a matter of trying it for an hour and seeing if it fits.
Only about a minute in but I'm surprised this doesn't have more views. We'll I'm not because everyone is small brain but even then only 300 views?

That's because he starts off a beta "slavery" garbage
3 minutes in and I’m done. Dude I came here for a video game not historical social commentary

A leap from Weird West to FFIX. Don't see that every day.
Sometimes the stars align and you've just got to jump at something.
