    I will give you this: Carrying OC has been useful on 3 different occasions in Chicago. Kept my gun in the holster and allowed me to escape a conflict without being in the news.

      I wish more people carried OC for this reason.
      Having something between a harsh word and a gun, as John has said, is a huge plus. I don't think people fully understand the legal threshold of use for lethal force

    One question I have is for the ifak. I also use an ankle ifak, and most of the time jeans conceal pretty well. I've found that when I use dress pants, I can't really use an ankle kit because it doesn't conceal very well. I've also used a waistband kit, but it tends to have the same problem. The next option seems to be a pocket kit, but it becomes difficult to carry a tq with one. Do you have any suggestions for what could be used as an alternative when wearing tighter dress pants?
    Thank you for your videos!

    Thanks, John. The best "advice" is often setting an example. With 17 shots (or is it 18) your single magazine load-out is the same as a Smith and Wesson Model 39 with two magazines and nearly the same as a six-shot revolver with two speed loaders. Shooting your gun is Plan D or lower down on the list--Plan A is staying out of trouble.

    • @ASPextra
      @ASPextra  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I like plan A, but if that fails, you think you’ll have time for a reload, or two?

    • @alancranford3398
      @alancranford3398 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ASPextra I've been lucky enough to have no gunfights. Under training conditions I did have revolver reloads of three to five seconds and was quicker with automatics, but pistol qualification tables and pistol matches are not gunfights. Due to slower reloading times with the revolver, on the match range I'd sometimes dump one or two live cartridges while still at my "barricade" shooting position and reload there after firing that portion of the shooting stage so that I had a full revolver for the next stage. I don't know if that game player strategy would work. I'm sure that having more rounds in the gun would work better. The force-on-force training in room clearing with M16A2 rifles or with training devices gave me more than six shots to work with--and a lot of "must shoot" targets, usually with few or no "don't shoot" targets. In the real world I might have only one active enemy, dozens of bystanders, and possibly an unidentified sleeper or two. Until police have taken control of the crime scene (and I am in custody) the gunfight isn't over--a full gun is much more comforting to hold than a depleted gun. Today's pistols can hold as much ammo as the entire basic load carried by law enforcement officers of the Seventies. Semiautomatic pistols are easier to hit with than revolvers. Most of the time reloading won't be necessary. I have been in areas where the opposition was highly motivated and if they committed to killing me, they'd keep trying until they were no longer able to move.

    It's funny how in America a knife is "mundane stuff", not even a defensive tool. In my home country of Finland, you cannot carry a knife in public places at all. It is considered "an object suitable for harming another person", and carrying one in a public place is a felony for which the maximum penalty is up to 6 months imprisonment. Also all your gun licenses are instantly revoked if you are convicted of this. (Needless to say, you of course cannot carry an OC spray or a firearm in public if you are not an on-duty law enforcement officer.)

    Question for those who carry AIWB 99% of the time: For the 1% of the time when you have to "dress up" and can't wear an untucked shirt, how much do you practice your draw when you have to change holster styles or location? Seems like in a high stress situation that change could present a problem.

      If I have to dress up (shirt tucked with a suit coat), I'll either go to right hip iwb, or a pocket J-frame. I really, really don't like hip carry for extended periods, so it's usually a 5-shot pocket rocket for me. Better than nothing. I would go with a shoulder holster, but that would mean the coat can't come off. Normally, I aiwb carry a G17 99% of the time.
