What pisses me off even more is when non car people then tell us that we should just go to a race track if we want to drive fast or spirited... this applies moreso to the self-driving car and ICE car ban discussions about people who rightfully point out that cars are a hobby to many people and by banning the act of driving or discouraging the production of fun cars, hobbyists are screwed over.
Insurance will fuck you over if you tell them you want to take your daily or weekend car to the track. If you want to be super legal about it you need a car to tow your racing car, not to mention a helmet and other safety equipment installed in your car.
Then there's the matter of driving to your nearest track on a day when you have time to go to the event being held, and paying the fee. I drove nearly half a day just to go to my first autocross event! as far as I know, my "local" track doesn't host anything but track days and races, which my WRX is certainly not eligible to participate in. If they did, I'd try to go there more because idgaf about watching races, I want to drive!
But yeah people think that we can just "go to a racetrack" whenever we want. It is quite literally cheaper and easier to just send it down an empty road at night when no one's looking.

I call it the suburban cancer cell. it's the same shit that devours farmland and wilderness while making the city infinitely worse because everyone who visits bitches and whines about a lack of parking. I live in St. Louis where we haven't had a racetrack since the 90s, and its current site is now a residential development way on the edge of wentzville generating far more traffic than the racetrack could ever hope to. the suburbs ruin cities, now let's spend the next 50 years undoing the damage

I went to a track once, it was 3-4 hrs of driving there and back, I think I was there for 4-6 hours. All for not even half a minute of seat time, I only got to do 2 runs, both of which I bodged horribly. People who say take it to the track don't have a fucking clue how difficult it actually is to do that under the BEST circumstances. Don't even get me started on building a car to regulations to get on a track with actual corners. And then you still have to get a racing license for wheel to wheel. They act like it's golf where we can throw a set of clubs in the trunk drive 30m to a course, walk in, pay, have our fun and leave. Then on top of everything they're shutting down what few tracks we have/have left to begin with.

Often times, they'll have noise abatement takeoff procedures where the aircraft holds the brakes and maximum thrust until the engines have spooled up, then release the brakes and then have to takeoff extremely steep, sometimes so steep that it's pushing the aircraft to it's limits, and then around 1,000 feet, they have to level out and reduce engine power and quietly leave the area before being able to climb like normal. The nice old native couple that ran it weren't even told about it until the "Cease operations" notice came. The whole community was pissed. Many of us were wondering why a new hospital was even being built considering the old one is understaffed and underfunded as is. Hate left lane campers with a passion, they think the PASSING lane is "the fast lane" and that fast exclusively means 5 mi an hour over the limit, like the majority aren't doing 20 over nowadays bc limits haven't changed in half a century but cars have. Which I wish Bladed would do a video on that, maybe draw awareness to all the issues it causes, like massive speed differentials, ie. what actually causes accidents NOT speeding, but the fact that grandpa will do the limit no matter how ridiculous it is or that everyone else is doing 20 over. Or the fact that god forbid you be doing 25 over and get pulled over the ticket is going to destroy you bc you aren't doing 5 over, you're doing 25 over. The best part is, the same assholes on the radio saying "sPeEdInG kIlLs" are the same ones profiteering off of not changing the limits(Which would in fact makes things safer, bc of aforementioned speed differentials being the real issue) to follow THEIR OWN GUIDELINES on setting limits, which is an 80% rule, bc 80% of us 99% of the time just want to drive at the maximum reasonably safe speed, almost like we want to get where were going in a timely fashion, while not having an accident. Crazy.

I mean, Hyundai and Caterham prove that EVs don’t necessarily mean the end of the car community. They just mean the end of an era for the car community. It can still survive and thrive in other ways, and hopefully as more enthusiast-oriented EVs are built, enthusiasts start to notice that. But racetracks shutting down is sad. That much I will agree with

      @Phendranaguardian yeah, that sucks alot
Firstly here it is illegal to weld a subframe.
And a ton of dumb laws incoming for car repairs which drive people to black market repairs
Which is ridiculous concidering car repairs instead of buying a new taxxed to the hell and beyond new car is environmentally a pretty ok decision
Also for importing cars sadly like some countries and states already have which makes moving nice cars to other countries a hassle
It is a big business importing cars from germany to here, they are not so much used and they’ve got models or trim levels we ain’t got or got so little of due to recession and in past we only got mostly basemodels
Only redeemable part about future is those third party spare parts getting more and more common for enthusiast models so we don’t have to tear apart another car
And more intresting EV models that are not just another crossover or SUV
I kinda like the EV Charger’s looks despite it kinda sounding like an vaccuum cleaner
And the new Prelude deserves a mention too

Another issue imo is these private tracks such as The Motor Enclave in Tampa, so many people in the Tampa Bay area love cars, and while we have Bradenton Motorsports Park and The Freedom Factory, itd be nice to have a road course other than Sebring (almost three hours away) to go to. We have a major issue with street takeover guys now, since nobody has an outlet. Also, with those private places, it costs at minimum, $1,000,000 to buy a property or use their cars for $2,000 for two hours on track. It sucks for the community worse than not having it, you shouldn't have a massive paywall to drive a car at your limits.

This problem is several times worse for rc car hobbyists. it would seem like you could just take them just about anywhere, but thats not really the case, as, depending on where you live, a lot of places that seem ideal end up being preservation areas, so even if it is legal to drive them off the trail, its probably not the best idea. Since rc cars don’t really contribute to the economy, specialized tracks are few and far between, and are constantly being torn up and replaced with tennis courts. In my opinion, some of the most fun you can have with an rc car is driving it around a skate park. But here’s the thing, most of them are indoors, and either don’t allow rc cars, or are too full to risk driving. And, get this, public parks rarely have skateboard areas, AND the ones the do have them are constantly tearing them down too, so even the skateboarders are getting fucked over, so what are we supposed to do?

That’s unfortunate. I always wondered how that dynamic would go btwn the track and the ppl who live close but I’ve also noticed none of the tracks I’ve been to are near much of anything. They’re usually in the middle of rural areas surrounded by corn fields and farm land. It’s interesting to know now that the track was likely there prior to the residents and businesses so they really don’t have a good foundation for their complaints.

Just a little something to add and maybe help with the algorithm: I know of an old drag strip here in my town (apparently founded in the 70's) that was closed in the early 90's to be turned into a bus parking lot at a bus station.
You can still see the dark marks where the old gassers and pro-streeters used to do burnouts before each run.
A friend of my friend's father even still has an old first generation VW Gol that he turned into a front-wheel drive dragster...
I don't know the whole story, I only found out about it recently... it's so weird to think that my town has already had some form of motorsport at some point in its history...

It can be the same way with railroads. People move in near railroad crossings where trains sound their whistles/horns to alert people they're coming, and then complain about the noise. Then they petition the local council to make the crossing a "quiet zone", council agrees and forbids the railroad from doing blowing the whistles/horns, leading to an increase and highly likely potential of people getting hit by trains which are much quieter today than they used to be. Many survivors often said that they didn't hear the train coming.

I live in southern Utah, and around Saint George, there was a much more celebrated car culture than there is today. They used to have a runway up on top of this plateau overlooking the city, and they used it often for drag racing. It used to be more of a retirement community way back when, so there were all manner of nice old cars that loved to show off there. They even had a boulevard take over event each year. It was great. But then Saint George became one of the fastest growing cities in America. Now there’s nonstop reckless driving from all walks of life everywhere you go. Lots of rich people with nice cars or motorcycles act stupid wherever you go. I wish they had a track or local strip still for them. The closest place is vegas, but that’s four hours round trip of just driving to go do it from Saint George. The only thing you can get today is the occasional 4 hour car show, where nothing of note really happens

I appreciate the mentality that you treat investors and businessmen with decency to assume there is no deliberate lack of consideration for the racetracks. I'm far more sure that the country clubs and developers know that the general public will not do their due diligent research and know the race track is there, and eventually they can force the race track to shut down and hijack the area. The general public already see us as horrible people and want modified cars to disappear and tell us to "find other hobbies", when most of them have no understanding of real passion for anything. They have no idea what it is to lose a passion, nor do they care.
