The theme of the game comes from the Sedlec Ossuary - en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sedlec_Ossuary. It’s a chapel in the Czech Republic where a monk took thousands of skeletons and stacked them in a bunch of formations, including pyramids. It’s an amazing place. Basically, a lot of folks died in the middle ages and holy ground was at a premium, so sometimes they had to shuffle people's remains to make room for new residents. Also, monks are big on contemplating and appreciating death, so win-win.
In Serbia there is also a tower of skulls which was “built” by the Ottomans after a failed Serbian uprising against them. Had 900+ skulls when it was made. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Skull_Tower
It's a fascinating place that is unfortunately usually packed with tourists. Do yourselves a favor a do an image search. There's nothing like a crest made out of human bones.
I completely understand why Sprawlopolis is the biggest Button Shy game (it’s the most think-y and difficult) but Skulls is by far my favorite game by them. The solo expansion is amazing, and all the new cards added through the other expansions makes it even better and allows for the full pyramid with 3/4 players

I still think space shipped is the best button shy game ever! No vp needed... Also twin stars is great, universal rule and even the ugly inn one that I forgot it's exact name... All their solo games are awesome in general BTW All of thier vp based games are nice and with ton of replayblity that is for sure but I'm sick and even hate vp based games I'm wayyy past those games so I trim my collection to have less and less games like that because it's boring to me to play just for the sake of points Anyway as for this point is nice to play once or twice but I'll pass that since again don't give a damn about vp anymore
