I really don't understand how anyone can be confused about this 'trick'. The clear balloon he picked up always had the card inside of it. He just put his hand on the outside and our brains did the rest.
Moses VII then why don’t you do the same trick, then? Show us how smart you are by doing tricks.

- the card was already in the clear balloon in the back
- conan knows/was forced to get the 8 of clubs
- the card had some sticky stuff on the edges, pinch it and it'll fall

Yea but how do you put the card into the balloon ? The hole is too small.. I've already tested that and with a regular balloon it's almost impossible..
Julien Hérin blow the balloon, press the card against it, release the air, the balloon should wrap around the card like a sealed pack of bacon.... ill let you figure out the last step

Peter Schipper NOPE!!!. it's actually a powdered condom, if you stretch out a condom really far and place a card on it and then un stretch the condom slowly and turn it inside out so the card is on the inside, blow up condom, and card looks like it's on the outside "notice he didn't show you the card after he picked up the balloon". push on card it falls... "HOW DID HE GET THE 8 IN THE BALLOON, HOW DID HE KNOW WHAT CARD IT WOULD BE?" It's a show, the cast is in on the gag, the audiences is not. The studio has a drop at the back of the stage, behind that drop is cast and crew, "here crew man X put the announced card in trick balloon and put behind desk". if they are not in on it, then it was a trick deck. No Google. Like tricks, #ScamSchool

err no. I mean, almost, you're in the right direction, but there doesn't need to be a lot of crew involved. He could've prepared the balloon with the 8 way earlier, because he forced the 8 of clubs on Conan. Notice that he didn't let him simply pick a card, but said "just touch the back of one". Probably a Svengali deck.
hello, germany! I think Peter's referring to one of Pete Holmes' (a regular comedian on Conan) stand-up bits on magic. The bit talks about how 'dudes' go to magic shows to try to figure it out. Peter and I were both quoting from that particular comedy bit.

Certainly, as he gets down to take the balloon, he secretly drops the card from his palm to the ground then picks up the balloon with a same card kept in it (which allows it to stick on top until his point of release) and his hand covering the very area where the card is, ensuring it looks as if he still has the card palming on his hand.
That card flip he did with his hand holding the deck while he lit up the lighter was really smooth.
He looks like Elijah Wood mixed with Tobey Maguire, with a dash of Freddie Prinze Jr.

OK ok for those who don't understand the 2nd trick.
1. He had the card in his palm, and made you think he was still holding it when he picked up the clear balloon (and re-creating the 1st example).
2. He actually dropped the card behind the desk.
3. He picked up the clear balloon with a different 8 of clubs already inside. (Notice how he lifts it from the bottom, and squeezes it enough to bend the card and make it look like its on the outside.)
4. Squeeze the card/balloon for effect, and watch it "drop" inside.

newbro Its called forcing a card, the magician presents the cards to be picked in such a way that the participant ends up picking the card that the magician wants but gives the illusion of a free choice.

I know how he did it, but when you perform a trick within a trick then that's pretty magical.
the first trick was the set-up part of the real trick, it allowed him to condition things he wouldnt be able to do without the condition, such as the palm on the balloon.

He lead Conan into picking the card he wanted (8 of clubs). Drops the palmed card and picks up a balloon that already has that card in it. Holds it in place and then rotates the balloon so it falls free.

this was a good trick, he used a trick explanation to allow him to do set up for the real trick. he wouldnt be able to do that without the trick explanaiton setup.
And then people rush to the comments to explain how the *second* illusion worked, because everyone sucks and there's no fun to be had anywhere.

Yup that means he hadn't gotten rid of the original eight of clubs before he performed the 2nd trick.
The card was already in the clear ballon you can see he is adjusting his hand behind the shot of the camera so you can not see him adjusting his hand to the card then he crumples the card when he pushes the ballon into the crowd
probably he throw the card when he grab the balloon out of camera and get a balloon with the card in it
he just picks up another balloon from behind the deck
the 8 of clubs was set up from the first trick because that was the one he already set up in the clear balloon, its probable that conan could see the trick clear balloon with the card inside the whole time

Magic is doing what makes you look like a wizard and doing stuff other people can’t do. Of course when someone says magic is fake.. I would say.. well can you do that? Magic is a way to do things you didn’t think was possible but it is. You just have to know how to do it which is very challenging making you an artist if you can.

Guys, watch Magic for Humans on Netflix, season 1 episode 5, he explains this trick to a bunch of moms and you can clearly see the card is outside of the transparent balloon and then it's inside, start watching at 6:30 :)

I could see the card still in his hand when he reached for the ballon based on his hand being cupped to conceal the card. I haven’t watched his explanation yet. I may retract this comment
Ok, I’m guessing the cars was in the balloon and he picked up the balloon somehow concealing the card
More like a misdirection, he made them think that it's the same trick, the 1st one was just the diversion for the real trick, that clear balloon already had a card inside that sticks to the side.. he wasn't holding the previous card, he squeezed the balloon so the card inside will let go and drop.

There is no magnet. He was just pinching the top of the card between his fingers. Notice when he has the card dangling and right when he lets it go, one corner of the card juts out between his fingers on top revealing the true colour of the balloon, which is white.
As for putting the card in the balloon, I think you should turn the balloon inside out, then roll it head first like a condom. Then roll it out on the card on one of it's edges. I need to see if it works this not sure.
