... once again, just "Thanks Tom...." what you are doing here is helping 1000's of us, "leap year" through technical issues and setting that would have taken many of us 10+ years to figure out... I can't thank you enough for these... my sincerest "Thank you..."
Tom was really fantastic meeting you last week. You answered something that I thought other people might find interesting... I was asking you about the length of time you are given to score a film and the daily working routines that you put in place on yourself to end up with the final result... Part of your reply was that often you will work on multiple projects at the same time and that you will never work every day for 18 months on one film. Instead you might work on something (say Mad Max) for 4 months and then forward this music to the director (say George Miller). Now George might only reply to you 3 months later and so in the intermittent period you will begin to work on something else (say Black Mass)...etc... This kind of leap frogging can continue for months through multiple projects... (thought this was a really cool idea) Always find it interesting how people spend their time - people like Ravel and Stravinsky were almost blue-collar in their work routines whereas someone like Schonberg from what I know was much more spontaneous and could finish pieces in incredible bursts of inspiration. All the best Max
Would you be willing to show a routing tutorial showing how you have things configured. I was curious about the choices you made and why for your entire path. From Keys, to a track VST, to a MIDI track on the VST track, to VEPro6 on your servers, to Kontakt, to individual outs for each sample loaded in Kontakt, is it purged/enabled/disabled? back to Cubase, to Inserts if any, EQ if any, how you apply FX track wet/dry, then do you direct the track to a SubGroup? Do you use another master Group of 8 group channels or VCA, then you go out to quad monitors right, or to Control room for different monitors? How are you doing your mix-downs in this config, And why... It sounds like a lot but you don't have to spend a lot of time on it. I'm using a similar config and I was curious if this was more of a hindrance at crunch time.
What software is used for the touchscreen ? is it available in the market or just specially made for you ? these simple things could really fasten the process i was shocked to see the how you just copied modulation data on other lanes by one click i try to replicate manually and that kills my time a lot. please do share more on the touchscreen software and details would appreciate it :)
Thanks for these videos. They are great. I'm really looking forward to the expression maps in cubase episode because that is quite a mystery to me. Thank you!
Hi JXL, thanks so much for these videos! I asked this question last time you went through your template...could you show us how/why you resampled some of the commercial orchestral libraries? Cinematic Strings for example? THANK YOU!
Jesus.....this channel is not just about Cubase, it's literally about showing what's inside the VAULT OF SECRETS that score composers don't want us to see... Hey Tom, how does it feel to be the freaking coolest guy in the universe???
Would you please explain how you route all these tracks? Like how you connect all machines? what tracks you create in Cubase and VEPro in your slave machines? Thank you very much !
Thanks you for the insight! What are the midi clips in the beginning of each track? Do they contain information to instantly put the keyswitches in place or what are they for?
I've not used Cubase for a while, does it do something special with templates - i.e. how long does a template with 1500 tracks stuffed full of libraries take to load and open?? Presumably, you've got a maxed out PC, but even SSDs at 500Mb/s must take quite a while to load up? Just curious.
I believe he is using Vienna Ensemble Pro to host his samples. With VEP, you can create a network of slave PC's that host all the sample libraries, meaning that the primary (master) computer doesn't need to load them each time it is opened. This drastically speeds up loading times and takes pressure off of the main machine but is quite an expensive investment as the slave computers need to be high-end machines to deal with the amount of libraries Tom has.
He made a video on his computer rig, I didn't even know you could do this until Tom took the time to teach everyone th-cam.com/video/geO7Npecmcg/w-d-xo.html
Hallo Tom, I'm new in your channel so a I don't know if you already have answer the question that follows. What are the specs of your computer that can run so nice and smooth so many plug ins and VSTs??? Thanks for your time!
@@dantesdjay2068 It depends on the composer. I set CC11 to 80, CC01 to 0. At libraries with mic positions (Hans Zimmer Percussion Professional, CinePerc...) I can control 3 faders with the controllers. So I set them to my default settings, And you can set keyswitches. I don't change attack and release. But this is up to you. ;-) th-cam.com/video/u4-y3_-x1hc/w-d-xo.html
@@SOUNTH11composingdesign Thanks for clarifying. Is there a way to prevent cubase from overwriting these defaults when "merge" recording is on? The only way i can prevent it from overwriting them is when this setting is is set to something different...
I've been waiting for the episode, because I thought there was going to be a ton of articulations in each section and I was going to ask of advantages of that approach (because I didn't see any advantages over expression maps). But now it has been ruined ;DDDDD
If only there was a way to show instrument/midi/audio tracks without showing the parent folder in the project window..... Folder tracks take up so much screen real estate once the track count gets high.
@@davidefant3045 I currently have it posted in the "requested features" section on the Cubase forums, but who knows who's actually paying attention to that, or how fast they would ever get around to it. :( Personally I use all instrument tracks in my full template, but I nest them in sub-folders categorized by library and instrument type/section, so the folders just eat up way too much space once I go above 40 or 50 tracks, even when you only show tracks with data on them. Not sure why they didn't allow an option in the visibility menu to simply show instrument/audio/midi tracks with data without showing any of the folders they are nested in. Seems like an easy thing to add, but maybe I'm missing something.
@@brianjones8432 Hey Brian, thanks for the update. I use many folders too, and I experience the same thing you report: they eat up a lot of space once you use a lot of them and want to see only tracks with data. Anyway, Cubase 10 looks amazing on HD screen, and the graphic improvements on the version are awesome to me. Hopefully we'll get this option on future updates. 🤞🏻
I've gone to using folders only for the main groups. To separate the rest I use midi tracks, disabled, colored black and they look nice and hide when using "Show Tracks w/Data"....
