I love these stories so much. I'm a lover of history. Especially military. And it's not often I hear anything from the German perspective. And the German accent makes it that much better. Thank you for the top notch content.
Love in a time of war! Ruth certainly had plenty of suitors buzzing around to keep our hero on his toes. Now if only they can get her transferred out of Berlin to somewhere in the West of Germany, near the Baltic? Enjoy your holiday Trenchie! Mark from Melbourne Australia 🇦🇺
Spike Milligan said in one of his WWII books; "That if ever there was a time for ugly women to shine then World War Two was it!" He quoted seeing an Adonis of a man, with a very ugly woman on his arm! This was in either North Africa or Sicily. A warm body to bring comfort when a long way from home! 😮
This episode has little "action" in the traditional military sense, yet I find it's one of my favorite episodes of all the series you've read. So good.
It's a completely different perspective on things. Indeed, when producing it I wasn't sure if it was going to find the audience. But I am very happy that you enjoyed it as much as you did, Tony!
@@TrenchDiaries i myself would've also been nearly as delighted every time U190 needed another few weeks in the shipyard! (Although hearing of his request to transfer to the 'midget submarines' i think he was more likely devastated!) The sense of duty and bravery the young men on all sides from that generation showed even when a violent painful death was highly likely is incredible and unimaginable in todays world, i can't help thinking one of them is worth ten of us. Enjoy the rest of your holiday!👍😎
TY 🙏🙏. The author did very well over that Christmas time compared to most. Glad the engagement made it into marriage. Only a passing mention of the war fronts, but I suppose they didn't want to dwell on it.
Thanks for another episode. I do find it rather interesting how much time he can spend with his girlfriend. I have to admit I am more interested in the type XXI than in his girlfriend!
Same for me 😅 still the case, actually. I geek out on all things mechanical and drive my girlfriend insane in the process. Just yesterday we went on a ferry ride and I immediately noticed that the ferry was a hydroplane! That was quite the ride 😎
😅 the names a bit old-fashioned, yes. I always struggle a bit when it comes to names - should I go for the German or English pronunciation? But now I am communicating to the German one so there you go 😉
As the years continue to go by and the emotions concerning ww2 are gone which has already largely happened. Combined with the collapsing GAE and its propaganda version of this period in time. And as more and more long since suppressed information comes out. There will be an honest reassessment of this time and those interested in history will enjoy its study. German youth too who have much about which to be proud will be interested in studying this era as well.

Thankyou for all your uploads, and your outstanding narration, all the best
Thank you for the kind words, always a pleasure!
Interesting, but bitter-sweet post. Thank you.
Indeed it is, Charles!
Appreciate you still entertaining us while on holiday! 👍
Another interesting listen 👍
Thanks....
You're welcome!
Very good to listen to. A young couple in love through a cold war and winter. Great 👍🇩🇰
It's a stark contrast to the others...
@@TrenchDiaries ganz sicher sehr verschieden. 😊🇩🇰

Great story! Did you have a good vacation ?⚓️⚓️⚓️
Still ongoing 😎🇮🇹🤌🏻 thank you!
So her name is Ruth. I thought you were saying Rood which didn't sound too good. Yes he was lucky his boat got delayed so many times.

Scotland is only 300 NM from Norway. Less than a 10 hour cruise on the surface.
Is WW-II history popular with the young of Germany ?
Not that I'm aware of, unfortunately 😕
