    Come along as I fly my airplane back to my home grass strip. After a trip to Charleston (video coming soon!), we returned to the Atlanta area and our grass strip was too wet to land on. A couple of days later, it was dry enough to pick up our plane and bring it back home.

    Thanks for the memories…my uncle owned a 182 with the exact same classic paint job - and I flew with him back then when that model was only a few years old. He was a CFI and one heck of a pilot. His home field was a 1200’ grass strip, and he made some very lively

    OMG preflight startup brought back so many memories.
    Love the sound of the O-470 continental 6 cylinders. They all seem to have the cold start hiccups, our 59 182 was exactly the same way, sounds so good. That panel gets the memories of our old girls flooding back, I miss them so much. Smiling during the whole video, I couldn't help it. thank you for posting such a great video, I so miss flying, especially the older cessna's, they have a character all they're own, an experience apart from the newer planes.
    I felt like I was there, just reliving my earliest days of aviation. Very satisfying video, great plane, loved it.❤❤
    Oddly enough our 56 172 with the O-300 sounded the exact same way the O-470 did.🤔

    Hi, what a beautiful Skylane. This airplane is awesome. I love it. What a treasure to find this one. Yes, I would keep the old radio also, even though this one got some weight I guess. 🤔 Maybe it’s a good idea to install a Garmin GI 275? It looks traditional and for IFR Flying it is a huge benefit. I agree, the rest should be traditional. Maybe the seats some day further. You live in Heaven. Old beautiful Skylane, private airstrip in a magnificent landscape, a Best Tug, how awesome is that??? Here in Europe no chance to live like that. Good luck to the plane and always happy landings. ☺️🙏👍🍀🙋‍♂️

    7:30 - 8:20, Skyhawk flaps its wings like a wounded duck down short final, makes a landing that registers on the Richter scale, doesn't respond to a request for spacing. Probably a student, scared out of his mind, not listening at all, transmitting reflexively out of pure rote. Those are the ones, all you can do is lay back and give 'em space.
    To me, one of the underappreciated aspects of GA is the importance of analyzing little cues to figure out who can be trusted to be a bit closer to you in the air and who you, maybe, want to get the heck away from as quickly as you can. :)

    TH-cam suggested this video to me because I've been playing around with Microsoft Flightsimulator for the last few months. My father used to have a PPL, so I had some contact with the aviation-scene as a child, but I only flew a glider myself when i was 14-16. I followed your flight on a map to recreate it myself in the simulator (of course I won't name the airfield and I live much too far away for a surprise visit anyway :-) Greetings from Bavaria/Germany. My home airfield is EDNB Arnbruck.

    thanks for the new content to watch...it's nice to see pilots flying well and not editing out super important stuff..like checklists. One guy in particular claims he edits out the "boring" stuff but there sure are some long edits that would involve "boring" stuff that he doesnt do. Lots of new and prospective pilots watch these videos and it's pretty irresponsible to not show the "boring" stuff

    On a busy day, I’ll sometimes taxi into position on the runway and hold for the plane that’s just landed to clear the active. But I only do this if the next plane in the pattern has not yet turned base. Downwind traffic can usually easily extend till after I begin my takeoff roll.

    In my foolish past I used the throttle to prime the engine before start. Excess fuel drips from the carburetor into the air box and lower cowling and onto the pavement under the engine. No problem until you have a backfire that ignites all of that excess fuel. It is a much better idea to use two or three strokes of the primer Cessna built into the airplane to prime the cylinders directly. Once the engine catches pump the throttle a half inch to stabilize the rpms above 1000 and lean aggressively about two inches out on the mixture control to keep the spark plugs from loading up on lead from the 100LL fuel. Even if you are using unleaded auto fuel you should lean aggressively during taxi.

    • @Schmiiindy
      @Schmiiindy  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      A bit annoyed that my mechanic recommended this way to prime to me (with the throttle). Will definitely be looking into this.

Could you pick up ATISs with it? Probably too much trouble though ... (I have a '56 180, we had that Lear radio for about 5 years from the time we bought it, until about 1966 when Dad bought a replacement Narco Mk12. I think it was '66 anyway.)
