can we agree that pretty much every SM release has aged like fine wine. I swear every time I listen to the song it just gets better and better even if I’ve listened to it for like four or five years
I can’t help but feel most of 2nd gen songs aged like fine wine for me. There was something magical about songs back then. And all the groups had such a distinct sound. Similarly, early 3rd gen songs too aged like fine wine-2012-2016 songs mainly. And many many NCT songs aged really well for me. I miss Firetruck a lot! It’s like, with most 127 title tracks, you should listen to them a few years after their release. Then you will become the biggest fan of those songs.
Survivorship bias. You may remember 100 songs from those gens, but you've probably forgotten 100x as many as that. People used to say those things about Gen 3 once upon a time, but when Gen 4 hit, suddenly there was nothing but praise for the previous gen. Once Gen 5 eventually hits, people will do the same with Gen 4. It's a never-ending cycle.
SNSD, F(x), Wonder Girls and Ladies' Code music still holds up so well even in modern K-Pop the whole rewind album and healing duo albums from LC just have aged so well to me
Isn't it kind of behind its time? It sounds a lot like a SHINee song. And I'm far from the first person to say so. Don't get me wrong, Superhuman is one of my absolute favourite songs of all time - not just from among NCT's works, not just in kpop, but it terms of _all_ songs - I just dislike inaccurate statements
I say ahead of it's time because I think the song sounds so futuristic and done right, production value is off the charts, and aespa been dapping on this futuristic style a lot as of late and look how it's paying off rn
bad boy by red velvet went from amazing to getting boring (because of listening too much) then after a while it HIT and bad boy became THAT song. god that song is a rollercoaster in terms of likability but I love it sm
Honestly most 2nd Gen ggs have immaculate title tracks; SNSD, 2NE1, Wonder Girls, Brown Eyed Girls, KARA, T-ARA, Miss A, 2NE1, Secret, After School, f(x), SISTAR, 4Minute… you can really feel the “quantity over quality” way things are nowadays when like 50+ groups are using the same half dozen producers.
so many of these are my favorite title tracks from these groups. also omg beautiful by monsta x has to be one of my fave kpop title tracks ever. the line distribution in that song is horrendous but it's SO good. maybe one day they'll re-record it with a better line distribution, idk, probably not but a girl can dream.
It was really popular when it came out though? Songs by solo artists never generate the same kinds of numbers as group songs do, so you shouldn't compare them
I could agree with you, but I believe what takes a song to "age" is the fact that some periods in music are very distinctive from the time it was made. In the 2010s in the west we had the eletropop autotuned era (in kpop this moment was remarkable with I am the Best by 2ne1), we had the pop songs with horns (Very Nice by Seventeen), the tropical house era (4 walls by F(x)), the trap pop/r&b (Go go by BTS), the reggaeton and now the synthpop/disco pop, trend comes and goes so i can't really assure. But there so much kpop songs that sounds absolutely typical from the time it was made. Some others doesn't. That's quite interesting tho.
@@ellaisfearless8618 You're very right. Kpop has very distinct sounds between years. That's why it's often those songs that break away from the majority that manage to avoid getting dated and gain longevity. But since they aren't following the trend, it's hard for them to get popular in the first place. In the end, there has to be some balance - trendy enough to appeal to the current audience, but unique enough to appeal to future audiences. There's also the songs that begin waves of a style instead of following them. Despite them being typical to the era, people remember them fondly because they were the "og". Also, this may be an unpopular opinion, but I don't think it's a bad thing for songs to stay within the trends. It's not a sin to enjoy the moment to its fullest. And if that era was important to you , e.g. if you were in your teens at the time, then listening to those "outdated" songs can be very nostalgic. As much as I like most of the songs in this video, the ones that create the strongest sensations within me are still the ones that I was listening to as a kpop newbie in my high school years. Not to mention that it can be really hard for groups without a solid fanbase to succeed without first conforming. It's hard to plan for the future when even your present is uncertain, after all.
