Megalithic observatory "Kokino" in Macedonia 2023

Kokino is a megalithic observatory located in the Republic of North Macedonia, about 30 kilometers from the town of Kumanovo and approximately 6 kilometers from the Serbian border. This ancient archaeological site is known for its significant historical and astronomical importance.
Key features of Kokino:
Age: Kokino is estimated to date back to the Bronze Age, making it over 3,800 years old. It was in use from the 19th to the 7th century BC, during the late Bronze Age and early Iron Age.
Astronomical Significance: Kokino is recognized as one of the oldest astronomical observatories in the world. The site was used by ancient inhabitants for various astronomical observations and calendrical calculations. It is believed that Kokino served as a place for tracking celestial events such as solstices, equinoxes, lunar standstills, and important solar and lunar eclipses.
Stone Circles and Markings: Kokino features stone circles, stone seats, and markers, which were used to track the movement of celestial bodies. The stones are strategically positioned to align with the rising and setting of the sun and moon during specific times of the year.
