- We are taking apart a Samsung QLED TV. This model (Q7) is a 75 inch LCD display with QD (quantum dot) technology. We removed the LCD to expose the full backlight unit and analyze the optical spectra including QD film. Interestingly we find phosphor converted LED in the back light contributing to the red and green color (in addition to the QD film). Full teardown and analysis of what we find on the inside.

Do modern TV Panels use the internal EDP display port style connection? Or is it often just some proprietary thing? I asked because I was curious if It would be possible to hook up a controller board or even plug it directly into an adapter to a graphics card. I know this was possible for some class of LCDs years ago. Didn't know they'd migrate it away from that or if I went to it as a standard.

If the panel isn't connected to the board how can we control the local dimming?
Does my step correct
1. Connect the TV into Laptop HDMI before remove the panel
2. Disconnect all the panel then remove it
3. Play videos that has black and bright picture in laptop
Do you know zone dimming works? Considering it's edge lit and there's a constant light source? Sounds complicated
This one is not edge lit, it is FALD which means there are LEDs uniformly spaced over the entire area. Lights can go on/off dynamically to create brighter/darker zones.

Glad to see, you are still active. Wasn't this q70R with local dimming or this model was just direct led (or it just wasn't possible to make FALD work)?
I'm really curious about, how an LG nanocell looks or how the "nano" part looks like/ applied. Maybe seeing a lower end edge-lit TV picked apart, or a newer mini-led with tons of zones and around 1000 leds would be great. Also, as you mentioned, to get a TV healthier LCD :D
I have a "low end" TV ready to take apart soon. Would love to do the Nanocell too.
This almost seems impossible to put back together if you're just trying to change the backlight or am I wrong? Mine is a QN65Q9FNAFXZA QLED that I'm not sure I can tackle the job. I would assume you need to reapply the adhesive for the screen and getting the bezel off without destroying it seems too difficult. That said, even if you don't destroy anything, can you really lay the TV screen back onto whatever adhesive is used squarely on the first try? Any help or direction you can point me to would be appreciated. Thanks so much for the video.
Turns out on my TV had the screen glued to the bezel. To remove the bezel and screen as one component, you had no snap the two from the frame of the TV. Too bad it didn’t work for me - lost $1850 - thanks for coming out.
@JoseChung21 when you say snap, what do you mean? I've got the q7f and want to try but it's the same bezel as yours!
@@wxrld9684 The bezel is actually glued to the screen as one piece. It needs to be bent slightly and then lifted off. I believe it snaps into place by wrapping around the frame of the TV. I destroyed my $1850 TV thinking the screen needed to removed from the bezel. Good luck.

I have the same TV and some dimming zones started to flicker so I'm considering backlight repair too but if I need to take apart the display (bezel with heat gun, LCD by using suction cups, remove polarizers and wide angle layers) just to access the stupid backlight, that's terrifying.
You're saying the LCD needs to be lifted off with the bezel still on it? Woulnd't heat gun help with removing the bezel?
@@VeeeeryyyFaaaastSlooooth You do not remove the bezel from the screen. The bezel and screen are on piece just glued together. The screen with the attached bezel wraps around the frame of the tv and it appears that it snaps out from the frame in one piece.
I assume this one has (or should have) the separate One Connect Box, like the 2018 Q7 that I did not video when I tore it down? It doesn't do much on the screen without the box attached.
The 2018 one did not have any phosphor on the LEDs that I could detect, although I didn't take it apart down to the LED, just the light guide.
You would have seen it in the spectrum you took if it had phosphor on the LED, I'm sure of it. If this had the one-connect box I definitely did not have it! Although even with the broken screen I could make out some type of menu box when I pressed on buttons randomly but not enough to do anything intentional.

At 5:44 you were limited to breaking the screen.😧
Nothing was reset it’s the fact the screen broke thus removing the standard short that appears to fail the Samsung tv range, the shot is in the panel, that’s why 90% of Samsungs fail
