I've had a Dean acoustic electric bass for about 20 years that just sounds incredible. I truly believe that acoustic basses are underappreciated in the music world.
@twistieonbass Oh, yeah. I've recorded with it and everything. It's a quilted maple version that is like a yellowish amber color. It was supposed to be a trans-cherry sunburst, but when the production line was going, the red stain didn't spray. I was told that mine is one of 6 that went through before they noticed. I used to have a killer hook up with Dean, so I was one that had the option to get one.
Hey!! That is great feedback!! Looks like they have a slimline version now which may have been a "more comfortable" option, but it wasn't available at the time.
I'm a guitarist primarily, but i got into music because my dad had a short scale fender acoustic bass that he used to bang out violent femmes and primus tunes on from time to time. When i turned 16, that instrument passed to me! I play it all the time and i love the sound. I keep flatwounds on mine to get closer to the feel of an upright and i really think it's a tough sound to beat! thanks for talking about these underrepresented instruments!
Thanks VERY much for watching and taking the time to let me know about your bass!! Next time I change strings I'll have to try flatwounds. Any recommendations?
Agreed. I wish they'd go back to playing music again instead of what they've become. Back in the 80's and early 90's, I could turn it on, then have a soundtrack for my day while doing things around the house.
I have an acoustic bass made by fender. I mostly play Bluegrass and acoustic music, so it fits my needs pretty well. I don't use it for all of my songs, but when I do play it, I really enjoy it very much.
I've bought and sold 3 acoustic basses. They just play uncomforably, and electric basses just sound better in most situations... Even though there are many cons to the acoustic, I still am tempted by them... I've been looking at those Warwick Aliens recently
I’ve never understood why. Maybe as a practice instrument lying around the house…. It just doesn’t move enough air to be heard and therefore needs amplifying. 🤷🏼♂️… and it’s uncomfortable.
I've been a BP since the early 70s. An acoustic Bass is Never needed! We knew how to do that with a Fender Bass. The Lie of the Acoustic Bass us Plugged in. So what the audience hears is Not acoustic at all. Saw Nickel Creek live, the Upright Bass Player was playing with a nice pup through an awesome SWR and it sounded like get was playing an Electric Bass guitar. The Acoustic Bass guitar Useless!
What is it about the Acoustic Bass and the MTV Unplugged era that is so fascinating?

That is awesome! Thanks for watching. Do you use it much?

@@Metalbass1979 That is outstanding!!! Thanks for sharing.
I had a prototype of that bass and gigged it for 1.5 years along with an amp from them . A real nice play and great sound . Best times

Great video! :) I love my acoustic bass too. And I miss MTV Unplugged. Wish they would start again...
Thanks for watching. Me too!!

Thanks for watching. The thinner ones are more comfortable, but I'm with you. I haven't tried using it with a stand, Steve Harris style, though.
Alice in chains was the best unplugged done. Period.
Thanks for watching. That was indeed an excellent performance.

Thanks for watching. It does seem to be an anomaly of an instrument doesn't it.
