Also standing by his fellow band members, and not ditching them to become another jobber in Megadeath. I like Megadeath, but Dave knows Marty is worth something. Marty is happy doing his own thing and earning a decent living. You'd think Dave was being charitable by offering this great chance to be in a proper band again. Dave is greedy as fuck. Would Rust in peace, Countdown, Youtheunasia have sounded the same way without Nick and Marty ? absolutely not. Mustaine has always undeestimated the contributions of the other members to Megadeth sucess.
Megadeth is the Dave Mustaine band. Bands that are run by one dude are horrendous for creativity. Basically you are just a trained monkey. It's Dave's way or the highway. I think the one thing that stopping Megadeth from being a band that could have a really good epic run that people would take notice of is the fact that it just feels like Dave Mustanie’s solo project and it has felt like that for sometime now. In the thing is Dave and Megadeth is the only band who knows that you can never have the original lineup that was on that first record and we don’t care because that’s not even what we call the classic lineup. No other band in history has that chance to wear it’s not even the first or second lineup that was considered a classic. It’s sad that Nick is no longer alive because I think today if I woke up and was on my phone and saw that that classic 90s lineup was back together in the studio recording an album I would get excited. I think this is why it might hurt their chances of getting in the rock ‘n’ roll Hall of Fame. Who do you induct? They’ve had 33 members in the band. Honestly, even if they kept their drummer, whoever it is right now if they were somehow able to bring Marty and the other Dave back, I think people would accept that. I get it’s Dave Zego, but even with Dave’s ego it should be something that if he actually thought about it like getting those two guys back in the band in announcing that you have the classic lineup or as close as you can get to it back together in the studio That would probably be the most successful metal album of the year . And before anyone makes a big deal out of Dave E. , that was the stupidest scandal in most most pointless scandal I had ever seen. So let me get this straight a rockstar Ws in a sexual relationship with a girl in her 20s? Oh no, he’s the only one I’m sure no other rockstar over the age of 45 has done this before. Honestly he was thrown out of the band. I thought that was so lame because it was clear that Dave Mustaine just wanted him gone and he was just going to use that excuse. I’m sure before he became a born Christian. He himself had done the same same thing probably 40 times.
Dave Ellefson is something of a hypocrite, being a pastor and undoubtedly preaching monogamy and Christian values, whilst wanking over a girl's tits online. But still, way more was made of it with unfounded accusations being spread. I can also imagine crowds getting rowdy at shows, which I can't see Dave Mustaine and his ego taking with good humour. Ultimately I suspect Mustaine wanting a reason to fire Ellefson and replace him with yet another soon to be ex-member who would accept a lot less money in return for the exposure recording and touring with Megadeth would (or so they might think) bring.

Dave must be tired doing this in his sixties. He is a tough guy to handle but he must know what he is doing because Megadeth is one of the biggest names in metal
The reason he’s in all these situations is because he’s so hard to handle - it’s why Megadeth has had consistent lineup changes and why he’s still dealing with this crap in his 60s. I love his work but he’s an egomaniac, and at the end of the day he truly feels that he is the epitome of Megadeth. Dave lowballing Marty in 2015 just reflects that, after Megadeth's 2002 breakup, Megadeth ceased being a band and became a Dave Mustaine solo project in all but name. "The System Has Failed" was even supposed to be a Mustaine solo record originally but the record company wanted the Megadeth name attached so it would sell more copies. Marty kissing Dave's ass at the Japan shows in 2023 makes it even sadder after hearing about this--the whole backstage interview where Marty praises Dave on and on made me wince. To understand this dynamic, one must realize Megadeth stopped being a band after Nick Menza was kicked out after "Cryptic Writings," and especially after "The World Needs a Hero" and the resulting litigation between Dave and Junior over the ownership of Megadeth rights (even then Dave had 80% ownership to Junior's 20%). So, any conversations about who else is in Megadeth don't matter. They're all hired guns from now on, even Junior who was paid around $10k a month when he rejoined Megadeth as a salaried employee. Imagine the insult of rejoining as an employee a band you started and originally had some control of, especially considering you were the only other consistent member. Dave already has a drummer who can play faster than he can ("Nightstalkers" being Megadeth's fastest song according to Dave at 195 bpm while Dirk can double bass at 16th notes at 240 bpm and has proven it on his TH-cam videos). I'd say he's getting a bargain in the drumming talent department. All that said, Dave is a legend and a great influence on my playing. But I wouldn't want to do business with him. I'm sure it would be fine sometimes, and a real drag other times.
In a situation like this, if I was Marty and I could not just pick up the phone and call Dave to talk about the pay in a more man to man like brothers in metal then i would say fuck it. Funny how bands start out as buddies connecting and turns into managers and lawyer talking heads as go between. Pathetic.
With perhaps the Poland/Samuelson lineup, Megadeth has always been a revolving door of hired guns.
