I really like this. The music is beautiful, and the story is timeless and haunting. The person who narrated also wrote the music, so it's to be understood that it's mixed a bit loud in a couple parts. Great visuals, excellent music, haunting tale. Win!

Queen Auðr, the Deep-Minded, Founder of Iceland Ketilsdóttir is my 37th great grandmother. I cried when I learned this. Everyone should do their ancestry.

Lovely! So good to see places and pictures that bring the saga to life. I agree that the background music is too loud, though.

I'm sharing this with my students, but according to my translation, this concerns Unn the Deep-minded. There's only one Auð in Laxdaela Saga, and she doesn't appear until chapter 32. I can't explain the discrepancy.

    • @chrisshorter9440

Agreed. There is a discrepancy between this rendition and the original saga text.

Unn The Deep minded is my 30 x grandmother. We can track our lineage to King Harald Wartooth, who was the grandfather x 3 of King Kettil Flatnose, Unn the Deep Minded's father. Also connected to Ragnar and Ivar the boneless. So if the queen of England carries Ivars bloodline, i guess i'm kind of distantly related to the queen of England.

A lovely tale! I wonder why the Irish and Scots never put their histories to writing like the Norse did. Very odd indeed. Am I missing something?

Writing degenerates the memory. And oral story telling is far more rooted than written, the emotion and subtleties of oral telling I find far better and writing as no real competition .
