- IB and Andy are invited to fish the river Anton by Pete Mcleod from @AardvarkMcLeodFlyFishing ! IB is a chalk stream beginner, Andy hasn't fly fished a chalkstream in years so they'll need plenty of help fishing the gin clear water in southern England. Tackling up with dry fly rigs, they tackle the rivers of Hampshire hoping for brown trout and grayling. Can they stalk their trout, or will they need more hints, tips and tricks from Pete?

@@IBandAndyFishing it was little.. :) We all just get redder and redder as the day progresses!
What a dreamy fishing trip. Pete seemed like a sound guy too. From the beers, to the brownies. Great stuff
Probably the best film I've seen in a long time..
Thank you very much Paul!
The most beautiful Brown trout.
That brown trout is probably the most amazing brownie i have ever seen. Genuine River Leopard. superb.
Your go to fly shows itself at 17:03 minutes. ;)
What a fishery! Great Job IB on fighting that huge trout. Never expected them this huge on such a small stream!
Thank you Dirk!! Was so much fun
17:02 Love the cameo appearance by Mr. Mayfly? Spinner? Fast bugger!
Ivy caught a real beauty

@@IBandAndyFishing beautiful
Great Video! I enjoy the way you enjoy this epic session together with the guide. Makes it real also to show the wrong casts. A lot of fun and good information about the way of fishing. Maybe you could spend some time at the end on the flies and leader setup. Kind Regards from the Netherlands 🇳🇱
I like this show!
Great vid again it looks really great I will have to book a session with him, after having one with you first Andy.
It'd be great to get you up here George!
Ib ,I think you should leave Andy at home next time 😉 ......great vid guys
Hahaha! I tried Colin, he keeps finding his way back to the car!
Good video again guys 👍🏻
Thanks Peter, glad you enjoyed it!
excelent video guys....my i ask what your guide use for the underwater filming in this video
This is fishing. Amazing. Going to have to get a mortgage to get near a chalk stream for a day lol. Envious. Great video
Cracking fish
Thanks Amy!
Nice Video, well done. what kind of Kamera does the guide use?
Excellent fished the avon as a kid down ther.
It's a beautiful part of the country, you're very lucky!
@@IBandAndyFishing yes my mum born ther even met the great frank sawyer lived in netheravon👍.
Great video guys , i always look forward to them. Little bit red there Andy i hope you didn't get sunburnt . Have s great weekend, stay safe . All the best from Downunder .👍
I think that bright red you're seeing is a mixture of stress and heat, neither of us burned at all, we're just not used to that heat here!
That's good Andy , stay safe guys . 👍⚘
Great job guys, awesome takes, still, you missed few money shots footage, thank you for sharing!
Thank you very much!
Came across as a lot of fun which is the name of the game.Looked like you were a tad over gunned set up wise for the Anton.
Good to see you back. Is the French leader allowed on the chalk streams? Just thought it'd be much less spooky in slight more pacey water. Still waiting to have my 1st go with it, have all the gear bought and rigged up, just the rivers are in flood : (
Spooked first cast ! You were lion taming not fishing my dude 😂👍🏻
It's not a proper fishing trip unless the first cast of the trip is terrible!
Superb, have never fished the Anton but have regularly fished other chalkstreams in that area when I lived in The South and it brought back memories. If I can be sooooo bold as to offer one piece of advice it would be this.................. more sunscreen on those ears Andy!!! Looking forward to episode #2
They aren't as bad as they look, my ears are permanently bright red, we didn't really burn at all! Can't wait to get back down there again!
What weight rods ? I’ve got a 7/8 is that any good for trout and chub ?
💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜 great day........ 💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜
Really enjoyed that even though I'm a coarse angler and never picked up a fly rod 👍
Thank you so much!! Just out of interest, where did you come accross the video?
@@IBandAndyFishing I'm a subscriber so have watched a few of yours but I can't really remember how I came across them but I 'm a river angler so love seeing the natural venues you fish and also the rapport you two have especially IB' s sense of humour is what makes it for me.
Well done 👏.
That's really cool! Thank you so much!
It's cool isn't it that as a sport in itself you don't have to do the same type of Fishing to enjoy a video because it's still fishing, still being outdoors and catching a few fish! That has made my day, thank you very much

@@IBandAndyFishing very very true. Keep up the good work 🎣👍.
"You don't wade in chalk streams". Not strictly true. On the stretch of the upper Avon where I fish there is much you couldn't fish due to the trees and bank-side phragmites if you didn't get into the river. It's kept as wild as possible.
Great video, and excellent fishing, Thank you! Would you happen to know the brand of the guides waist pack? Thanks again! -Frank in Dallas
Howdy Frank in Dallas! Pete was wearing a fishpond pack 👍👍
@@IBandAndyFishing thanks for the reply folks, I’d love to fish the chalks, and have put it on my bucket list!
I also have to say that I am seriously impressed by IB’s casting skills! Keep the videos coming folks great work (or play ; )! 👍
PS, I literally just returned from our local Tailwater Fish store where I picked up a new Tacky dbl sided fly box! Looking forward to stocking it based on you next videos recommendations! Thx & Fish-On Folks!!
Btw. I was looking through the list of your kit and puzzled what an Apeman A80 was. Alas both links lead to dead ends.

Great Vlog guys.
Many thanks Pete, enjoy your holiday!
IB and Andy Fishing . Will do, great way to start the day, watching the vid over breakfast. Fished Wherwell and Broadlands a few times, but to many stockies for my liking. The Anton looks a bit more wild.
Guys, help with leader length, fly size and type would be much appreciated. Great video.
Agreed, we missed the flies off this one but we'll try to be better on the next ones!
What I can't understand is, if chalk streams are a smorgasbord for fish, why are these streams stocked?
Excellent question. I can only presume that it is to make things easier for wealthy businessmen who have plenty of money but not much angling ability. From an ecological point of view, artificial stocking is a terrible idea.
@@portcullis5622 well said
Simply because it is a business. There is a demand, and this is the supply. The same situation applies along most of the Test, Test tributaries, the Itchen, and Hampshire/Wiltshire Avon. Unless (until?) modern man is removed from the processes, these classic streams will never regain their natural state, with trout of a size that state can support. Where re-wilding is happening on fisheries catch returns are quite low, and expectations have to be scaled-back. That doesn't suit many trout anglers, who perhaps have to drive for two or more hours to their fishing. Such fishing is very much 'fishing' rather than reliable 'catching'. I experience both propositions, and my view is that for the majority who cannot afford an expensive syndicate place, fishing is nearly, but not quite, as much fun as catching. There's more to fishing than catching fish. The same applies in Latin.
Nice video but have to say there are better sections of the anton than that area also the test is much better you want to look in clatford ' longstock ' stockbridge area they are true fly fishing spots ....
How do you find places like this to fish that aren’t immensely expensive
They are there, it's a case of chatting to folks in the local fly shops and such. Much of the chalk stream fishing is private and expensive, but there are options 👍👍
IB and Andy Fishing yeah it’s just that there are rivers round me but no club or shop it’s round grayshott. And the only way I have of knowing where the rivers are is through a local fishery manager and she’s not going to tell me anything as to keep business
Look at the sites of local angling clubs. They are relatively inexpensive for a year book. Some of them offer winter grayling fishing when trout are out of season.
Great fun, but SO many ads. I understand monetisation, but that many interruptions is just greedy.
Great video but my god lad do you make a meal out of landing a fish
How hard do you want to pull back with 6x?!
@@IBandAndyFishing Only having you on 😉
😂😂
Please don't make jokes about "I don't know wether my heart was going or I was having a heart attack" its not funny, heart attacks never are IB.
Hi Mike, Andy here. I don't think it was a joke, it's a pretty common English turn of phrase, one which IB is using in her third language.
There's certainly no intent 👍
IB here. Mike, in my honest opinion, we should be able to talk & joke about anything & everything. It doesn't mean we agree with the context of the joke or the saying. If we have to stop seeing the light & humour in things, that's when we need to have a word with ourselves, are we living in a fear of offending someone else?
One of my favourite quotes 'People like the idea of freedom of speech until they hear something they don't like'
"Some of the most famous trout streams in the world" you've got to be kidding me. It might be in England. I drive past streams like that every weekend to fish far better and more natural streams and rivers. Park benches, walls and mowed banks show how fake this is. You people need to get on a plane ...
You disagree that the the chalk streams are some of their most famous streams on the planet, given their historical context to a fly angler?
@@IBandAndyFishing I'm not talking about its history , I'm talking about its productivity. I guide on several rivers and I can tell you I never had an angler that cared about anything other than how good the fishing is.
That's a shame, you'd have thought there would be more to all this than just numbers. Oh well. Go well buddy 👍
