9th April 2021. Anyone else watching this amazing performance? (BTW I'm from India but have been captivated by traditional Maori and New Zealand songs/ music)
Omg and this made in on to youtube well done roopu as to the comment below we are just a combined roopu from Waikato University and we whakapapa to different Iwi around the motu
Mauri Ora!!!
The whole roopu are excellent. Great video thanks for posting it, been looking online for a clear version of this waiata so I can learn the song again (and actions).
Maori, very proud. Growing up with other cultures was a pain especially if they didn't like my Maori boy charm. That's right, charm. Despite the fact other's are blinded by the brilliance of my people, I'm not. Now, when I see non Maori singing our waiata I'm very happy, I suck my puku in, shoulders up chin out and count myself lucky. We have to count our blessings and awhi them.
You sound like a very entitled little shit exactly the sort of attitude whites imposed on you and now you are more racist than the whites themselves and more whiter than whites ....
i thought the same thing. so proud to see our pakeha mana wahine doing kapa haka. AWESOME aye. where are you in Aus? Are on Kiwis in Aussie on Facebook? lol

Do pākehā girls in NZ get Kirituhi or moko kauae??? I'm confused. I know that kirituhi have been created so that Māori can share their customs with the masses and Tā moko, on the other hand, is strictly ‘Māori only...is that changing...as life always does!
pretty cool i reckon. nothing wrong wit da tempo and dunno how you can say da pakeha girls didnt do it justice, what teko.how can you even tell . da girl singing flat on the last syllabel of the 'aue' part sometimes is annoying though. Isuppose you gonna blame dat on da 'pakeha girls too. lmao
far too up tempo and some of the pakeha girls didn't do the waiata justice. can't knock them for giving it a go though, however they won't be performing at Matatini anytime soon.
I personally think there is nothing wrong with that opinion. Based off experience and understanding of the waiata, Maori would almost always do better. Being raised on this song and others like this, you would have the advantage of knowledge and familiarity that other peoples do not. So if he/she thinks they're butchering it, it's probably because they are, despite the effort of the participating group. In regards to the rather racist conclusion to your comment . . . perhaps educate yourself on why they think it's necessary to act that way in the first place. Almost losing your entire cultural significance - therefore, your IDENTITY can do that to people . . .
Splendid!!
Ka mau ke te wehi! Very good rendition! Kapa Haka is for all! Ahakoa pakeha mai, Maori mai, hainamana mai ranei! Kia kaha koutou!!
