Great trip through Texas! Many abandoned gas stations, and then the Midpoint of Route 66, half way from Chicago to Santa Monica, Calif, over 1100 miles. Let the journey continue. Looking forward to NM!
Thanks so much for coming along for the ride with me Pop @papatangoable !! I can't believe we're already halfway through all of old Route 66!! New Mexico drops on Sunday morning so stay tuned. Thanks again for watching!!
You're welcome @ablokeinatroopyaustraliawide !! Thank YOU for coming along for the ride with me!! You've definitely gotta come out and see it for yourself. It's pretty amazing.
You’re welcome @jmark7390 !! I’m glad you’re enjoying them!! I’m a big fan of the old abandoned motels and gas stations if you couldn’t tell. Thanks again for coming along for the ride with me!!
That post at The Midpoint is to set a camera on to take a picture of a group or individual without anyone holding the camera we used it when we stopped there and no one around to take our picture it’s a perch for a camera or video recorder That’s the best I can explain Sorry For people without a tripod 😀👌🏻
Keep them coming We have been on 66 last 5 years Still like to see more anytime our motorcycle tour is over with now so we’re just gonna go to Missouri Parts Maybe some of Oklahoma getting to old to ride that far anymore Will be taking our Camry 😀😀 Thanks again for memories Keep us up on new engine in 55
Thanks@@harriswaller7002 You got it!!! The video of my road-trip to get to Colorado with the new engine drops tomorrow so stay tuned. Thanks again for watching!!
24:14 that was my favorite abandoned station as seen on another Route 66 tour. As soon as I heard Vega, TX I had to watch out for it in your video! Not a historically-significant building but so cool in its current condition.
Thanks @aps5150 !! I had to rewatch the video to figure out which station it was you liked - the old Shell station in Vega right?!? I think it's super-cool in its current condition too. Wait'll you see 'em in NM & AZ!!
@@jeffthisted the Shell station, yep! I am not sure why I love that one; all of the buildings you've shown are so cool. Can't wait to see the rest of the Route!

Thanks @peterselten500 !! Merry Christmas to you & yours!! The Conoco station is pretty awesome right?!? Have you seen the Ken Block video from there??
Is Midpoint Cafe closed?? That place was great! I thought that was a mainstay! A few things have changed since I did the route during Covid - some for the better, some not so much....
Good one Jeff. So many places that could actually be saved if the properties would be given to the right people that would invest and fix them up. It's just so crazy that they want $250,000 or more for abandoned land and the structures on them.
Just saying that I've seen some in the past for that but normally a lot more. I've seen vacant land for that, $250,000 along the route in smaller towns. It's just sad that the buildings that actually have a chance to be saved go for big bucks where most couldn't afford the purchase/mortgage and have anything to invest in the renovations. And then you get the ones like the owner of the Launching Pad asking 1.4 million for a property worth maybe 1/2 that. That's kinda how I see most of the owners along the route that have property for sale as I been looking into something to invest in. @@jeffthisted
Not sure if it has happened but a few months back I spoke with a guy from Alanreed and he said there were plans by a group to buy the Super 66 station and refurbish it. Hope he is right.
Merry Christmas from New Zealand Jeff, I saw you at places closed on Sundays, we really struggled to find somewhere open to eat lunch at Winslow Arizona a few years ago, is this much of a problem on Route 66 on Sundays? Cheers
My wife and I are also from New Zealand. We love to holiday in America and in just over 4 months we are heading back there to drive all of Route 66 (we did some of it from Kingman to Springfield MO in 2018). Many places in small town America, not just Route 66, open Tuesday to Saturday to cater for locals as well as tourists. It pays to Google the trading hours of places you want to stop and visit, but check how old the information is first as many places still have not reopened post Covid. And yes, if you change your travel dates to visit something “must see” you will miss out on something else interesting as it will then be closed as a result of the changes.

@@jeffthisted YES!!!!!!!!! Love the humor behind it and the art deco style gas station. That is another reason why this one stands out amongst the crowd including Ryburn place, a two-story house and gas service station in Normal, Illinois.
