The pace debate is an interesting one. Of course everyone would love every single one of our players to be as fast as Adama Traore but in central midfield you dont need to be super quick. Ideally you dont want a slow player unless they have tremendous technique and intelligence for example Xavi, Xavi Alonso, Lampard, Fabrigas all were slow players but had tremendous technique and intelligence. But if you have a slow player you ideally have someone with athleticism to play with them. So for example Fabrigas was a fantastic player but next to Denilson our central midfield was easily overrun and overpowered. Merino in with Rice would be great. The best duo I've seen in Arsenals midfield was Vieira and Petit, Petit was not fast, not slow but had great intelligence and drive and was perfect next to Vieira. In my 30+ years of watching Arsenal the only decent midfield pairing I can think of that had pace was Gilberto and Vieira, so it's hard to find players with all the right attributes but also be fast too.

So I would expect his face would be on every paper. I'd also expect if England had won, pictures of him holding the trophy would be everywhere. Similarly, when their respective teams lose those faces are used in our local papers. How are all of the players that we are "interested" in leaked? Does Arsenal do this on purpose for smoke screens or to try and unsettle a player? Or does it usually come from the selling club trying to show that there is interest to hopefully bump up the value?

I am willing to bet 100% that Mikel Merino would be signed by Mikel Arteta because they carry the same name. I have not seen enough of this guy to judge whether he is good or not .
