Great topic ... many aspects - dad here and athlete -- things I have noticed not in "order" > parents should only cheer and be positive ...silent Saturday was the best soccer game day in AYSO ever > coaches that do not have children don't "get it" ... big difference in coaches that have raised kids vs non-parent coaches, we are all the greatest parents there are until we have our own kids .... > kids MUST have the passion, can not force it on them, but they do need nudges otherwise they will all just play video games > Coaches are used to speak to 12y olds - parents are their "equal" and most coaches don't "get that" >> I think that is the main conflict part -- at what age can an athlete actually have a real goal setting dialogue with a coach ?? So all coaches should embrace the parents - and honestly, I rarely see that ....
