Thank you. Carburetor is now cleaned and works like a charm. Well done vid and easy to follow along!
Thanks!
Thanks man! I removed the bowl and cleaned it, drained the fuel tank, replaced with new gas and now it runs. You saved me a repair bill!
Most welcome, glad it helped. Congrats on saving $$$!
I know your post is a little older but a big THANK YOU!! I usually only have a Briggs and Stratton motor products but for whatever reason I've torn it apart and even bought a new carburetor and still no go. Anyways, bought the Yard Machine, had an issue of not staying running, came across your video and worked out great for me.
That's awesome Jim. I'm happy you got it going. Even though my video is indeed dated, I tried to make it thorough to eliminate any guesswork. Thanks for commenting
@@jcx2bby that you did. It's great how you did everything step by step. Very informative.
Thanks for replying to my message. The problem is with the two shafts that the carburetor slides onto. There is a rubber sleeve on the shafts. It is one of those sleeves that is damaged. Tha carburetor does not seal properly and that is where it is leaking.
Thanks for the help troubleshooting. My main jet was clogged and the carb cleaner wasn’t able to get it. I didn’t have any spare wire, so I took the spring that holds the throttle back, bent the end straight, and pushed it through the jet to unclog it. Then I bent it back into a hook and reconnected everything. Runs good now
Nice! A little ingenuity! Congrats on the fix
Just did a impromptu carb cleaning on my friends similar lawn mower. Your video got it running in one pull.
Mine started in one pull everytime up until a month ago. Cleaned the carb,plug,oil,nothing.. will run on spray but dies...
Awesome! Sorry for the late reply.
@@historyhunter5215 Still sounds like a air/fuel delivery problem if that's the case. DId you ever get it sorted out?
@@jcx2bby yes I did thank you! It was the little port hole. It was clogged. I ran a jetting needle through it and first pull it started. It's really funny you responded right now bc I literally just primed the mower and was putting music on and seen the reply. About to over seed my yard and start the garden. Happy mowing!
@@historyhunter5215 lol, awesome! Happy mowing indeed friend.
Worked like a charm. I was a bit skeptical when I took the carburetor off and it looked so clean (only 1.5 yr old with minimal usage) but sure enough after spraying the carb cleaner everywhere, put it back together, pulled and she ran without stalling anymore. Thanks for the detailed vid!
You're welcome, and sorry for the delayed response.
Parts 1 and 2. Thank you! Best do-it-yourself vid I've ever seen! Going straight out to my mower now, and actually looking FORWARD to it! Kudos! :-)
I sincerely appreciate the comment and best of luck on your repair!
Very Helpful - have this engine on an MTD Edger and it's running rough, but not after your video! Thank you!!
Awesome! Congrats on the fix and thanks for taking the time to comment
I add my voice of thanks.
I watched both parts paying close attention and at the end draining the fuel bowl was all that was needed to get my father-in-law's going again.
5/5
Outstanding work, congrats! Thanks for the comment
Thank you so much for this video! I was able to
follow the steps to clean out the old gas in the carburetor bowl and it fixed my mower!!!
Glad it worked for you!
Followed the direction here and fixed my mower. Thanks
Awesome!. Great news and thanks for the comment
@@jcx2bby you're certainly welcome. The tips about figuring out where each port sprayed out to were crucial. Thanks again 👍
ive commented on real slow professional videos..here is another great job as i have fixed all my lawn equipment from you tube saves a ton of money if you have the patience and tools.the float and pin are usually the culprits and i also found out cutting off the fuel helps found out the hard way with a walboro card on a toro lol
this is as simple as it gets awesome job
Thank you. I remember watching repair shows on TV as a kid in the 80s and 90s...so unrealistic. They go fast, skip parts, omit difficult steps etc. Always infuriated me. Now that TH-cam provides a platform for 'little guys' like me, I do what I can to get better content out there. I appreciate your reply.
@@jcx2bby wow you must be my age i grew up in the late 70s and 80s back then you had to hunt down a repair manual or coax someone to tell you secrets lol and of course chilton was the name brand book still is just pdfs are the way to got if you cant find people like you or me. i cant remember the last time i took anything to a repair shop.
thanx for replying back
Very helpful, just ran into the same thing on a mower I bought to flip. Tomorrow I will follow your video and give it a good cleaning.I know it has spark as it will run on starting fluid.I will clean the tank, fresh fuel, clean the carb and hopefully it will start right up. Thank You!
happycat, thanks for the comment and good luck with the flip. I'm sure it will be an easy fix.
Cleaned carburetor 3 times and it will run with the prime, but dies after gas burns out. What does that indicate to you? I notice the choke stay open all the time, shouldn't it be closed, till it warm up? Thanks
Saved me from taking it in for repairs or buying a new one. Used compressed gas to blow out the buildup and clean out any surrounding dirt. Thanks for the vid!
Justin, yeah buddy, it's why I do these vids. It's fun for me and sometimes it helps folks out. Thanks for taking the time to comment
What goes on before you put the carb on against the head besides the gasket
I was just hooking up the linkage I believe. Been awhile since I worked on this.
Just took in one of these China Honda clones in on as a trade in on another one of my sales , you've given me some insight now ...Thanks
Glad to help brother 👍
It's alive.. fixed. Thank you!!
Hooray! Thanks for commenting
Perfect video! Fixed my lawnmower easily! (same model)
Woot!
Holy crap just like you said started first pull.Thank you for the video very detailed will recommend you to everybody
Thank you and hooray for the running mower!
How to check spark without spark tool as shown on this video?
If you have two people try this. Pull the spark plug out of the engine, but hook it back up to the spark plug wire. Hold the spark plug against a metal part of the engine. Then have someone else try to pull start the rope. You should see a spark go from in between the gap on the spark plug
Thanks a lot!
Did the same to my powermore 140cc carburetor and it started from first try 🤩
Sweet, congrats!
I watched the video , got the carb cleaning tools got it running after 3 tries but now it lees gas at the back of the carb. I found the rubber sleeve on one of the carb stud is falling apart. can you get the rubber sleeves for this machine.
@@rickmiller-w5f if I'm understanding this right, this is one of the rare times when I would almost recommend just getting a new carburetor versus messing with the old one. I'm not sure if you can repair that or not
Thank you so much.
I have the same lawn mower . It sat over the winter and when I went to clean the carburetor there was crystal formed in the bottom. I cleaned it and still it does not run. Any suggestions . Is there a fuel filter some where.
@@ShahBari-j3f there's no original fuel filter on these engines, unless someone has added one later on. If you had crystalizing in the bowl, I am certain it got up into the body of the carb, the jet and all the small holes. If even one of them is plugged up, it will not run.
Soak it in cleaner, or if you have access to one of those ultrasonic cleaners from Harbor freight, use that. Keep at it until you get it going. If all else fails get a new carb on eBay. Good luck
Thank you nice video
Great video. You are a gentleman and a scholar. Cheers.
Thank you for the kind words
Awesome simple to follow video, thank you and God bless you.
Thank you for the kind words.
Good quality video, precise explications, good sound A1
Thank you
I have 2 of those that are not working, I'll give it a try, but my question is: what is the spark plug model, just in case it is been replaced with the wrong model in the past..
Thank You , very detailed and will definitely use this as my step by step to fix my mower.
Sophie, great! Thanks for your comment and good luck!
Extremely helpful! Thanks for the video.
You're welcome
Great vid! Thanks a ton for all of the detail. It really helped. I am back in business now! Keep up the good work and great vids!!!!
Brad Pears, thanks! Appreciate you taking the time to comment and congrats on getting the engine running again!
Thank you for this video! I feel confident I can fix it myself now. (My mower is the exact same model you worked on).
You're welcome, glad to have helped. Good luck
I cleaned the carb twice using carb cleaner, compressed air and ultrasonic machine, got good spark with my tester, fresh gas, still wont run or try to run???
Will it run if you spray starting fluid directly into the carb butterfly?
Hey man I got the exact mower my buddy borrowed it to cause lees than half an acre worked great the following day I try it won’t start it has compression has spark I put a new plug in anyway just in case but I saw spark then I took carb apart cleaned it an still won’t run and I also check the fly wheel key I seen in a video an that was good any ideas would be awesome thank you
Does it run if you spray starting fluid in the carb?
I just tried it yes it did run I let it run for about a min then I tried to start it again an got nothing
so i took it apart as usual not bad now i have a silver bushing from somewhere hmmm still looking
After running mine for about 10 minutes I stop it. Then will not restart until wait about 10 minutes. Can spray carburetor cleaner in carb without taking the carburetor to get run.
Have you tried what I showed here?
Hey bud ! So I just did everything as described, the carb had some water in it cleaned it off and put everything back together but it still isn’t running, I’ve changed the spark plug, added some new fuel and cleaned the carb, my guess is that maybe I need an oil change, or do you think about anything else that could stop it from working 🧐?
No I don't think an oil change will help you. As long as it has some oil in it, your problem lies elsewhere. Assuming it has compression, which you can feel as you pull the rope, it is either a fuel or fire problem. Have you checked spark with a spark checker yet? Cheap and easy to do. I have had coils go bad on small engines before. Rare, but happens. Past that, it's most likely a carb issue. Take er apart and try it once more.
@@jcx2bby thanks for the fast reply ! I will check out with a spark tester and redo the carb part over again, thanks !
@@jcx2bby so I tested out the spark plug and it does fire sparks, removed the carburetor again and deeply cleaned it, changed the oil, added some brand new gas and yet it still doesn’t start up 😅 I’m cursed I guess, have any other ideas what this could be ?
@@rogersirard4843 sorry for your troubles. At this point, I would shoot ether or carb cleaner straight into the butterfly of the carb and see if it would fire off. If it does, then it is a fuel delivery problem, as frustrating as that may be. If it doesn't, well, new mowers are always available 😞
@@jcx2bby Alright I’ll try that out ! Thanks for the amazing video I felt very confident doing it, Else then that I’ll go with your second option and grab a new one even thou this one is like 3 years old 😂😂
good video. Is the primer bulb supposed to have a hole in it? right in the center??
Yes sir
It seems to sputter when you started it after reassembly, is that how it always ran?..my also sputters like this and it's brand new..wonder if that's a "Chonda" thing?...Chinese Honda clone= Chonda.
Chonda, lol. Nice. So this mower belonged to my neighbor and it was a bit sputtery until it got some hours on the engine. After it got maybe 15-20 hours on it, it ran much smoother than it did on this video. So give yours some time and I think it will even out. Maybe.
Chonda!
@@jcx2bby Cheers for that, patience is not one of my virtues.👍
mine is missing the small formed air vent hose from the air filter housing to the top cover, will this stop my mower from starting?
I doubt it...that tube is just a crankcase vent I believe. I honestly don't remember, but it shouldn't affect the mower's ability to start and run.
10:26 I lost my gasket when removing the bolt; what size is it so I can find a replacement?
I don't know the size, but what I would do is go to an autoparts store and get a copper washer to replace it. They have all kinds of sizes there. Or just search ebay for a replacement. Good luck.
Cleaned the carb, cleaned the plug, new oil, same mower as yours. I worked at a small engine shop before so I'm pretty inclined but with this dude I'm lost. It runs on spray but wont stay running.. any ideas? It ran perfectly fine and then just would not start...
Also does that 2.0 primer make a air noise when you mash it?
It has to be a fuel delivery problem, purr and simple.
1. Is there gas in the tank?
2. Is it fresh?
3. Is gas getting into the carb bowl?
4. When you push the primer, you should feel resistance after the 2nd push, indicating you are sucking gas into the carb. Do you feel this?
5. You should be able to see fuel getting squirted into the carb by pushing the primer (leave the air filter off).
Thanks for your information , my machine engine oil is mixed with gas , what you will suggest
Take it all apart, rinse with clean gas and put it back together. It should be just fine
Great video thank you.
1 question: I have a Huskee Powermore 159 cc OHV, that does not have a Priming bulb. How do prime it.
Many times these newer motors do not have priming bulbs. The prime is built into the way the carb meters air when you start it.
@@jcx2bby
Thank you for your response
I have the exact mower. Tearing carb down am tomorrow
Ok, good luck to you sir
Hi jcx2bby,
I know this video is a couple years old and perhaps you havent run into this exact model mower lately. I happen to have the same mower and am having difficulties. I cleaned the carb ( just like you did) checked for spark, air, hoses, oil etc. I did happen to notice that the carb's butterfly choke is naturally held open by the rod and wire that are connected to the rotating plastic piece on the top of the carb. This seems backwards to me, as a cold engine requires a closed choke. any thoughts on this? My mower will only attempt to run when I have somebody pull on the rod forcing the butterfly choke to close. even then it does not idle properly. Thank you very much.
Hi Jake. I wish I still had this mower so I could look at it. You're right, the butterfly should be closed when the mower is off and modulated by air pressure when the mower is running somewhere between half closed and fully open. Is the spring bent? Or hooked up wrong? I have a pretty good closeup from 1min mark to 1:10. Can you see if yours is the same?
@@jcx2bby Thanks for your reply! a mechanic friend of mine recommended cleaning the carb with a carb brush/wire. Even though i had what seemed to be full flow with carb cleaner, brush mustv knocked something loose and she started like a charm upon reassembling. Concerning the butterfly choke, it naturally remains open, so i am guessing the prime button adds additional fuel to compensate for this. Thanks again for your videos and help!
Hmmmm,
AWESOME AWESOME AWESOME!!! Thank You!
Haha, you're welcome friend
@@jcx2bby I did all that, and prior to doing the cleaning of the carb. it would not start at all. Now I can get it to start, but it dies immediately. Any suggestions?
Man I know this is an old vid but if you read this can you tell me if that primer bulb is vented? Looks like yours has the same nipple in the middle but no hole. Took the tank housing off and can’t find my leak anywhere. I’m wondering if it was just leaking out of primer bulb lol damn it 🤡 thanks in advance if you can help!
I don't believe it was vented. My mom has a very similar mower with this same engine on it...next time I get down there I'll have a look at the bulb and report back.
@@jcx2bby you are the man. Replacement parts seem to be vented but I don’t know how else I’m losing fuel. Very much appreciated
I had black gas in my fuel tank i ckeaned everything but it runs 45 sec an dies thin wont crank bavk up what do u think
Might have to give it a second cleaning.
Awesome job.
knighthawk86855, I appreciate the kind words.
Yeah I just rebuilt one of these today, and I'll tell you this, much easier to work on then a Honda carb,..... I cleaned it in my ultrasonic cleaner, completely disassemble the carb, came apart very easy, and went back together perfectly, thanks to you and your video.
Finally found out what my problem was there is a filter on the bottom of the tank so I took it out cleaned out the tank put fresh in an it fired right up so there is a fuel filter hopefully it will help someone
That's wild, was it a factory filter?
Yea it was I was surprised as well lol
Is there any fuel filter instalated?
No. Most small engines do not have fuel filters.
The one I have has a fuel filter coming from the fuel tank hose
Mine ran fine for about .30 seconds…what may the issue be now 🤦🏽♂️
Most likely fuel again. There's no shortcut to this as far as I know. Take it apart again and see what you get
@@jcx2bby and guess what??? After the third try of completely taking the carb apart and cleaning it out, it runs like new!!! You guys are awesome!! Major thanks to @TH-cam 🔊🔊✅✅
