We go from cute to speed to elegance in this 3 class video. Up first is the 1988 Ontario Hackney Futurity Weanling Pony Class. From there we skip ahead one year to the 1989 Futurity for the Green Road Horse To Bike. We finish up in Louisville Kentucky with the 2003 Three Gaited Under 15.2 World Championship.

Can you explain why the horses lift their legs up so high while walking? Looks amazing but why do they walk that way?

Like the super high-speed stomps of the Paso Fino, the way the hackney trots is inbreed, foals lift their limbs as soon as they start walking, ponies who would do that naturally have been selected and paired consistently over at least two centuries.
