Band BIO:
Sabaton was formed in December 1999. After the first songs were recorded in Peter Tägtgren's studio, The Abyss, Sabaton was contacted by a couple of record labels. The band sang with the Italian label Underground Symphony, which then released, internationally, the promo CD Fist for Fight.
FUN FACTS about band:
-Sabaton discovered a Russian TH-cam channel doing Russian-language covers of their songs, and helped them do one of "The Attack of the Dead Men". And then brought him on-stage to sing his cover in Moscow.
-The band has said they've tried to write a song about Pearl Harbor many times but can't manage to put together one that sounds right. Similarly, some topics such as the Harlem Hellfighters ended up being dropped from The Great War due to songwriting difficulty.
-The Sabaton History video for "Talvisota" got a copyright strike from Finland's National Audiovisual Institute (KAVI). It turned out it was collateral damage from a copyright dispute between the agency and the Reuters archive from which Sabaton History had licensed some footage, and the strike was withdrawn a couple of weeks later (after a nasty Internet Counterattack from angry fans).

Military events, people, and history. When asked why they sing about war etc they simply answered that they are history nerds and love the storys.
@@dicodec Yeah. I'd say "Screaming Eagles" and "Fields of Verdun" are probably some of their best, but they cover a lot of battles throughout history in their music.

Sabaton actually has a song that would fit very well into Braveheart, called Blood Of Bannockburn, which is about the events after what happened in the movie.

Released 1 year after the last survivor died. He was the 19 year old represented in the video. His son is the fishing boat skipper - hence the compass and the wall of Bismarck memorabilia in the beginning.

Also, Sabaton has their very own history channel to compliment their song catalog. Many, if not most, of their songs have a dedicated and detailed history lesson to go along with the music. Learning history has never been so awesome. I wish they had been around while I was in school.

Rusty here- glad to see you guys liked it. If you're interested in the history behind the music, Sabaton has a channel on TH-cam where they sit down with an historian and tell the story that inspired the songs. Well worth a watch, even if you don't end up reacting to it.
They're definitely worth checking out live, too. The 2013 Woodstock Poland performance is the stuff of legends. They killed it in front of a crowd of over 500,000 people. For their most recent tour, The Great War, they released a stage video for every song they played on the tour, and it's epic. These guys use more pyro than Rammstein, and their live sound is every bit as good as their studio performances.
Also, fun fact: the drummer is married to Floor Jansen of Nightwish.

Sabaton are systematically epic. But another band that is usually even better live for most songs. Try Ghost Division live. Sabaton has a brilliant YT history channel explaining the stories behind their music.

@@dicodec Joakim (The vocalist) has done collaborations with a number of different bands. Hulkoff/Raubtier (Swedish Industrial Metal band), Baby Metal, Apocalyotica, etc.
Edit: He also did a collab with one of their previous guitarists, Thobbe Englund.
@@dicodec It wasn't everyone's favorite song on the album but it was Su's. At least she has a blast doing it. Fans seemed to like it more once they saw how fun it was live of course. It is just damn fun.

In the beginning of the Video, you can hear the Radio in the beginning, when the are driving is talking about How the Bismarck have blown the "The might cruiser Hood"
That lead to the British Navy got the message that Bismarck must be destroyed at all costs and lead to Battle of The Denmark Strait.
The Kriegsmarine was Nazi Germanys Navy.
The Video was made with help from the company behind "World of Tanks" that needed some material to their game "World of Warships". And yes Sabaton really played on a boat in the "middle of nowhere".

Bismarck was the first of two Bismarck-class battleships built for Nazi Germany's Kriegsmarine. Named after Chancellor Otto von Bismarck, the ship was laid down at the Blohm & Voss shipyard in Hamburg in July 1936 and launched in February 1939. Work was completed in August 1940, when she was commissioned into the German fleet. Bismarck and her sister ship Tirpitz were the largest battleships ever built by Germany, and two of the largest built by any European power.
In the course of the warship's eight-month career under its sole commanding officer, Captain Ernst Lindemann, Bismarck conducted only one offensive operation, lasting 8 days in May 1941, codenamed Rheinübung. The ship, along with the heavy cruiser Prinz Eugen, was to break into the Atlantic Ocean and raid Allied shipping from North America to Great Britain. The two ships were detected several times off Scandinavia, and British naval units were deployed to block their route. At the Battle of the Denmark Strait, the battlecruiser HMS Hood initially engaged Prinz Eugen, probably by mistake, while HMS Prince of Wales engaged Bismarck. In the ensuing battle Hood was destroyed by the combined fire of Bismarck and Prinz Eugen, which then damaged Prince of Wales and forced her retreat. Bismarck suffered sufficient damage from three hits to force an end to the raiding mission.
The destruction of Hood spurred a relentless pursuit by the Royal Navy involving dozens of warships. Two days later, heading for occupied France to effect repairs, Bismarck was attacked by 16 obsolescent Fairey Swordfish biplane torpedo bombers from the aircraft carrier HMS Ark Royal; one scored a hit that rendered the battleship's steering gear inoperable. In her final battle the following morning, the already-crippled Bismarck was severely damaged during a sustained engagement with two British battleships and two heavy cruisers, was scuttled by her crew, and sank with heavy loss of life. Most experts agree that the battle damage would have caused her to sink eventually. The wreck was located in June 1989 by Robert Ballard, and has since been further surveyed by several other expeditions..
All Sabaton songs are about historical events, mainly Battles, Heroes/ Act of Heroism / Famous last stands etc.
You should really check out their History Channel, The have a Historian (Indy Neidell) talking about the story behind their songs, and Indy is really amazing storyteller and they do have a video about Bismarch and how this Video was made)

Sabaton opened for Babymetal for a few shows in Japan , 2018 . The singer , Joakim Broden says he almost lost his voice recording his part of Oh! Majnai because the Babymetal people wanted him to keep singing more and more of a growl.

Uprising live in Woodstock Poland 2012 is a great one the song is about the Warsaw Uprising in the WWII! Women, Men and children against the German Army!! and 700,000 to 800,000 Polish singing it's prety epic!!

HELLYEAH! Honestly war history (especially recent history) was something I steered away from until I allowed myself to enjoy Sabaton. Still too sensitive to go through the entire catalog because there's some horrible subject matter. They tell stories well and make them accessible. They have the Sabaton History channel where they go into details about the inspirations for the song and explain a bit more, about who and what the song is about.
Another vote for OH MAJINAI next!

The Video was made i collaboration with the game "World of Warships", The name of the Boat "Primo Victoria" is the name of another Sabaton song, (the Video for that song was made in collaboration with "World of Tanks" game from the same company). The guy stearing the boat is the son of the guy wwho gets the compass from the captain of the Bismark.

This story, told in music, was interesting. I even find it difficult to say what I liked more - the music or the clip itself. I probably liked the video more. I just watched a movie. It was indeed a real story that took place between the German battleship Bismarck and the French and British navies.
You should check out the animated story video of No Bullets Fly. It was released for Christmas last year, and the story is really amazing, just like the song.

With all of their songs being tied to historical events, mostly war themed, before you do anymore of their videos, you might want to look up what particular event that song is telling the story of and if available, turn the captions on. Although there are a couple of animated videos they have out that you would not have to do so. A couple of them are No Bullets Fly and Night Witches.
That would actually be cool. Maybe watch it along with the song during a reaction type deal.

The video was made in collab with Wargaming who is known for games as World of tanks... This was made with crew who makes World of warships (pls don't screw the game up more... pls....)
The song is about the german battleship Bismarck which was sunk just a few weeks after finished.
Like many other ships in the Kriegsmarine it was made to engage transportships, so when scoutplanes registered that it together with the heavy-cruiser "Prinz Eugen" had left harbor the hunt started. When it last time was spotted in Norway they guessed it would head for the atlantic next. So many of the Royal Navy battleships were sent out to hunt it.
If you listen to the beginning of the song there is a radio-clip telling about the sinking of the brits pride: the 20 year old battlecruiser "Hood", which was sunk when a 15" shell found it's "Achilles-heel".

I think he joined the band in 2014. So if you're watching older videos, there are different members on guitars and drums. The lead singer, Joakim Broden and bass player, Pär Sundström, are the founders of the band and the only members from the early days.
